>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Fall 2008 campaigns brought a wave of supermodels and for Spring 2009, at least one brand isn't over the nineties girls yet: Ana Claudia Michels, who opened the Givenchy show earlier this month, is jetting into New York to shoot the brand's campaign with Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin tomorrow.  No word as to whether it's an only girl campaign, but if so, I'm sorry to see Riccardo Tisci's favorite Mariacarla Boscono go. [RG Vogue]

UPDATE: Mariacarla Boscono, Lara Stone, and Lakshmi Menon are said to be joining Ana Claudia at the shoot. [TFS]

Lara Stone, Exposed, for i-D November 2008

Fri, 10/10/08 — 04:37:56 PM

>> Lara Stone is known for baring her breasts in most of her editorial spreads, inciting fanaticism in some and eliciting scoffs from others, but as she tells i-D in the November 2008 issue, she's tired of all the commotion: "Will you stop asking me questions about my tits?  Oops sorry, but the world seems rather obsessed with them . . ."  She graces the cover of the magazine, all chiseled cheeks, gap teeth and bleached eyebrows — no breasts in sight — but when the accompanying tagline reads, "Yes, I think I'm sexy," what does she expect?

The world's obsession started when Lara was young.

My mother tells me of when I was 10 or 11 and I would wear really tight, short skirts and crop tops. All the local men would wolf whistle and stop and stare, but I didn't realize why at the time.

But her mother did . . . and she wasn't sure what to do about it.

The first time she saw me naked she sent this whole long big email, that was sooo sweet. She had seen the pictures from Purple by Inez and Vinoodh of me, butt naked, in the studio. She was like 'Lara, if you don't want to do this, you can just say no, you can always move back home with us'. She's so sweet.

Catwalk falls, more nudity, and Lara the librarian . . . »

Givenchy Stays in the Black for Spring 2009

Wed, 10/01/08 — 05:18:07 PM

>> Keep the hard-edged black leather, trade in the religious iconography of Fall for cowboy couture, and you've got Riccardo Tisci's vision of Spring.  The collection already has at least one early adopter in the form of Carine Roitfeld, and she's not the only top brass taking note: at least four LVMH executives sat front row, indicating that Givenchy may be moving on up in importance for the group.  So will the bondage tops, denim and leather chaps, and peekaboo dresses catch on?  With most of the fashion crowd, for sure — except maybe Cathy Horyn, who called the collection "gluttonous" and a "mess."

Heat Hits Couture Week Like a Plague

Wed, 07/02/08 — 11:16:54 AM

>> Paris is sizzling . . . and not necessarily in a good way. The city is experiencing a heat wave right in time for couture, and the weather is messing with everyone's cool and collected fronts.

Reports first came yesterday that the sun beating down through the glass-ceilinged Grand Palais, venue to Chanel, had attendees "sweating so uncontrollably that they downed the petit bottles of Evian waiting on every seat within minutes of entering."  And indeed, watching the video of the show, the number of programs being used as fans is so great, it almost distracts from the clothes passing by.

Givenchy hosted the same problem — programs doubling as fans for the entire front row, models had to be fanned backstage — it even got to Riccardo Tisci, who wiped his face off as he was posing for photos and told his publicist, "We have to do something. I am melting."

Riccardo Tisci Readies For a Vacation with Givenchy Fall 2008 Couture

Tue, 07/01/08 — 10:38:55 PM

>> Riccardo Tisci is taking a trip to Peru in August, and his anticipation birthed the Incan prints and alpaca blanket stripes that pepper his latest couture collection for Givenchy.

Highlighter shades of fuchsia and violet provided shocking punctuation amongst Tisci's usual color palette of neutrals.  The emerging trends of knee-length leggings, transparency, and lace were all present along with the signature Tisci for Givenchy leather jackets and oversized hats. But I have to say, amongst all the draped jersey and deconstructed shapes, the two standout looks were similar pale, choppily-fringed minidresses.
