Victoria's Secret Switcharoo: Izabel Goulart Out, Behati Prinsloo In?

Thu, 11/13/08 — 11:51:25 AM

>> Intrigue is afoot.  While we wait to see who bagged the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show — and it's not Raquel Zimmermann, who is in Venice, shooting the Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 campaign with Juergen Teller instead — the Angels made a store appearance today in Miami.  Izabel Goulart was noticeably missing, and Behati Prinsloo, who also has a VS contract, but mostly works with the company's PINK line, was there in her stead.  Is Izabel no longer an Angel?  There have been rumors about her leaving . . . And is Behati about to get a promotion?

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Those who enjoyed Liya Kebede and Raquel Zimmermann as Lanvin girls, cherish it while it lasts — they won't be back for Spring 2009.  Although no casts have been revealed, Steven Meisel shot the new Lanvin campaign in New York last week, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot Yves Saint Laurent a few weeks ago with a very "California" theme, Mario Testino is doing Versace in LA in early November, and Gucci will be photographed this week in Miami. Chanel Mobile Art Opening Misses Anna Wintour, Brings Back McBeha

Wed, 10/22/08 — 11:11:49 AM

>> Despite a scathing review in The New York Times yesterday, the" black hole of bad art and superficial temptations," otherwise known as the Chanel Mobile Art exhibition, brought out the well-heeled last night.  Editors were in full force — Carine Roitfeld and Franca Sozzani swarmed Karl Lagerfeld upon his arrival, Glenda Bailey and Amy Astley made early cameos — but there was no Anna Wintour in sight . . . nor Bee Shaffer for that matter.  Strange, considering how close they are with Karl — Bee was at the Versace-hosted Whitney gala the night before, but no Anna there either.  But speaking of missing persons — Catherine McNeil and Freja Beha Erichsen fans will be happy to know that after their well-documented disappearances during Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks, they've popped up again — together, no less.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Noms Pair Work with Play

Wed, 10/15/08 — 01:25:32 PM

>> Before the winner is announced Nov. 17, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nomination will get you a piece of the twenty-page spread with Caroline Trentini in the November 2008 issue of Vogue, plus an invite to last night's celebratory cocktail party, hosted by Anna Wintour, of course.

But it's not all fun and games — the party doubled as part of the judgment process.  Each of the ten nominees were assigned a different species of butterfly, a L'Oreal eye-color palette, and an evocative word as inspiration for the custom creation they made for their assigned dates — sounds a little Project Runway, no?  Or maybe that's where Project Runway got the idea . . .

Alexander Wang brought Zoe Kravitz in a "barely-there dress," the Vena Cava girls dressed Raquel Zimmermann in a gown, Jason Wu paired Leighton Meester with a ladylike frock, Richard Chai was on a double date with Coco Rocha and Jamie Johnson, Swaim and Christina Hutson created an Obedient Daughters look for Chiara Clemente, and Alejandro Ingelmo put Lake Bell in some serious gladiators.

The designers presented their dates and creations to the judges, and then enjoyed the party.  Alejandro Ingelmo was even caught taking down Coco Rocha's number . . .

>> INSIDER WIRE —At Louis Vuitton, there is never a shortage of monograms or trinkets — and Sunday's show was no exception.  Marc Jacob's business partner Robert Duffy mentioned backstage that the models had on pretty lingerie, and Raquel Zimmermann and others flipped up their skirts to reveal LV-monogrammed underpants.  Meanwhile, after the show, Marc handed out the shoes straight off the runway to his favorite editors — Francesca Burns from i-D and Victoria Young of POP among them. Marc Jacobs Wears Skirt, Shows Skirts for Spring 2009

Tue, 09/09/08 — 12:45:30 AM

>> For the second season in a row, Marc Jacobs started his show promptly, just ten minutes after its scheduled start — only this time, half the attendees weren't locked out — everyone had learned their lesson. "Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats. The show is about to begin."

Through swinging mirror doors, the models walked the mirror-lined runway from every direction, funhouse illusions abounding. But show tactics aside, with Marc, it always comes down to the clothes — the mashed-up, layered, bangled clothes, sparkling, plaided, and sheened. As Gershwin played in the background, Marc took us in a whole new direction — and he did it while wearing a skirt.

Alexander Wang: Now Anna Wintour-Approved

Sun, 09/07/08 — 12:17:46 AM

>> Alexander Wang's sweat-inspired Spring 2009 collection, featuring shiny-faced models, was quite appropriate — yesterday had the fashion crowd dripping from heat, and today, Tropical Storm Hanna blew in just in time for Alex's show.

Not that the weather would keep anyone away; Anna Wintour attended Alex's show for the first time ever — a symbol of his quick rise. As the lights went down, the sunglasses went on, and she only broke pose a couple of times — once to consult Virginia Smith's program, and the other to fiddle with her BlackBerry.

The show was definitely a different experience, now that Alex has moved on from Erin Wasson, collaborating with stylist Alastair McKimm instead, but all of the classic Wang elements — zippers, leather, a slouchy, downtown feel — were all there. The only major slip up was at the end, when all the models — stellar cast, I might add (Jourdan Dunn!) — took their final tour and got stopped up returning backstage. We're talking line of models, basically at a standstill, at the end of the show. Alex skipped out, did his usual jump and punch the air routine. And then Anna ran out.

>> IN THE LOOKING GLASS — While we still don't know which model graces the September 2008 cover of Vogue Paris, we do have what's rumored to be a peek inside: Raquel Zimmermann, snapped by Ryan McGinley.  Everything seems copacetic — the photog, the model — until you get to the shot with Raquel wearing bright orange Crocs.  Hmmm.
