>> The CFDA has been busy lately, discussing the possibility of sponsoring sample sales for designers who don't have enough resources to do it on their own, commissioning books — including a fashion-related cookbook, and announcing an upcoming three-year partnership with Mattel. But Monday night, we'll learn which of the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominees will take home top honors, $200,000, and business advice, who will score one of the two runners-up titles and the $50,000 that comes with them, and who will try again next year.
The first award was given in 2004, with top honors going to Proenza Schouler; since then, Trovata (2005), Doo.Ri (2006), and Rogan (2007) have taken the top prize, and the likes of 3.1 Phillip Lim, Philip Crangi, Rodarte, Thakoon, Derek Lam, and Thom Browne have all been runners-up. Without doubt, the winner generally has name recognition — and is in favor at Vogue — but tends to not be the biggest name in the group (i.e. Rogan over Phillip Lim last year).
>> Along with their first full-blown shoe collection for Spring 2009, the boys at Proenza Schouler have their hands full with a new handbag line. They waited until they felt like they had something to say, according to Jack Hernandez, and they wanted "a bag that feels familiar but is completely different" and "would transcend seasons." Along with a good view of the upcoming offerings, Jack talks about their "secret bag" — "they're called the PS-1. No one has them yet, we just gave them to friends." An it bag in the making? It's possible, since Vanessa Traina already has one . . .
>> Alice Dellal may have been a special guest at Alexander Wang, but she was there in spirit at Proenza Schouler — the sideswept wavy hair, red lip, leathers, zippers, and crop tops shown were all reminiscent of her look. She may have been a starting point, but the collection had a downtown refinement that you would never seen in Alice — she revels too much in the grunge. All I have to say is: So many fun, billowy jumpsuits, so little time. And don't forget to check out the accessories — they're part of Jack and Lazaro's first full season effort.

>> We had a look at just one shoe from the new Proenza Schouler and Giuseppe Zanotti collaboration before, but now a few more shots of their limited-run Resort 2009 collection have sprung up. The full collection will drop for Spring 2009, with more than 100 styles of ballet slippers, loafers, lace-up sandals, and heels. Just as a frame of reference, Guiseppe Zanotti also holds licenses for Roberto Cavalli and Balmain shoes.
