>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL — There were rumors about it yesterday and today comes confirmation: Katie Holmes shot the Spring 2009 ad campaign for Miu Miu today with eight unnamed models — which explains the smoky makeup and slicked-back hair the paparazzi caught her in this evening.  No word on who the campaign photographer is, but based on history, I would guess Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott — unless Miu Miu is pulling a Louis Vuitton this season and going with a new look, too. >> Miu Miu campaigns have a long and storied history of celebrity faces — Chloe Sevigny, Vanessa Paradis, Drew Barrymore — and though we were initially hearing otherwise, it sounds like the tradition is continuing. 

Katie Holmes is rumored to be the Spring 2009 face, and as for all those models that were being cast for the campaign?  According to the commenters over at The Imagist, they will still be there, but instead of helming the starring role, they'll be flanking the celebrity cast as "accessories."

>> Sure, Resort collections are supposed to be the big money-makers, but it's still shocking to see Miuccia Prada present such a commercial collection after taking Miu Miu in such an anti-commercial direction for Fall.  From the few preview images available so far, Miuccia seems to be stuck in a purple haze; the most standout piece is front and center, a dress covered in Christopher Kane-line paillettes.
