>> Anna Wintour has been harangued by PETA throughout her Vogue editorship, and try as she may to elicit a reaction, Ingrid Newkirk, president and co-founder of PETA, can't get anything out of Anna. She's gatecrashed Vogue headquarters, causing Anna to barricade herself in her office. She famously served Anna a dead raccoon at the Four Seasons in 1996, but Anna merely covered it with her napkin and ordered coffee. She's even overseen Anna being smacked in the face with tofu pie during Paris Fashion Week — still, no response in return.
In a new profile of Newkirk by the Financial Times, Anna was asked repeatedly to make a comment, any comment, but to no avail — the only response was: "Ms. Wintour chooses to decline." Anna is famously choosy about interviews, and doesn't really hang a whole lot of laundry out in public, so I'm guessing a provocateur like Newkirk isn't going to make any major headway anytime soon.

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —She was a runway exclusive, was rumored to have the campaign, and now it's confirmed: Anna Selezneva will be the only girl for Calvin Klein Collection Spring 2009 — Carine Roitfeld, who uses her consistently, must be proud. I wonder if that means the rest of the rumor — that they asked Christy Turlington and Kate Moss, but both declined, is true, too? [TFS]

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Speaking of Spring 2009 campaigns, here's a fun, but totally unverified rumor circling around today: "For Calvin [Klein Collection] they originally wanted Kate Moss to do it, she obviously refused to wear those clothes. So then they asked Christie [sic] Turlington, she also refused. So they got Anna Selezneva to do it." Anna did have a Calvin Spring 2009 exclusive, and the campaign is supposed to be one girl . . . >> Sophie Srej may be Hungarian, Anna Selezneva Russian, and Charlotte Hoyer Danish, but these three girls now have one thing in common — as of today, they are the Spring 2009 Calvin Klein show exclusives. Anna Selezneva is the only cover girl of the bunch, but now Sophie and Charlotte have joined her in becoming some of the most watched new faces going into Milan and Paris.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Cathy Horyn, curmudgeon or awesome? The New York Times fashion critic showed up to Calvin Klein's 40th anniversary party last night — which had a cocktail attire code — wearing jean shorts. So far, she hasn't had any invites rescinded this season, so it looks like she's playing rebel in other ways . . . [FWD (hard copy)]
