Marc Jacobs Sings Backup for Donna Summer, Talks Hair Transplant at Louis Vuitton Store Opening

>> Marc Jacobs has taken the stage for many a reason in the past - usually it involves accepting an award - but last night, it was to sing backup to Donna Summer at the opening of Louis Vuitton's new store on Bond Street in London. “It was fun - but I think I’ll stick to my day job,” he quipped.

Jacobs celebrated with the likes of Stella Tennant, Bernard Arnault, Carine Roitfeld, and Natalia Vodianova, and opened up about his recent hair transplant, which had him avoiding press and cameras at the Costume Institute Gala earlier this month. "I was starting to thin on top. I can’t dye it for a while, so this is my natural colour.”

He also hinted that the Louis Vuitton logo that he has helped make so ubiquitous almost got squelched way back when he first started at the brand: "When I arrived at Louis Vuitton 12 years ago, and I was figuring out how to create a new tier of Vuitton for a different customer, I thought it would be clever to hide that monogram, which was very stupid of me. That logo is part of what makes the Vuitton so desirable. It allows people to become members of an aspirational club."

Logos are to be expected, but not Louis Vuitton couture - Jacobs says he has no desire to launch such a collection. “Some of what we already do at ready-to-wear is pretty much at couture level, anyway."

Alber Elbaz Pulls Out the Stops at Lanvin for H&M Fashion Show

>> Alber Elbaz and the Lanvin team descended on New York's Pierre Hotel Thursday evening, transforming it with palm fronds, caged parakeets, models in French maid outfits, and little old men offering up champagne, scotch, crustless tea sandwiches, and macaroons, to show off their H&M collaboration.

At the runway's entrance, a rose-filled arch set with "Lanvin Hearts H&M" in fluorescent lights; to the side of that, a salsa band played live music. And above the runway, there were 20 crystal chandeliers. The venue was packed, to say the least - Sofia Coppola, Patrick Demarchelier, Shala Monroque, Sally Singer, and Grace Coddington were all there, plus more than a handful of other designers sitting front row: Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui.

Katie Grand styled the show - and the models were told to engage with the audience - so Siri Tollerod, as veiled bride, tossed her bouquet; Pixie Geldof strutted down in her gender-bending suit; Anna Dello Russo, walked with a gray standard poodle at her side; and Julia Frakes made her runway debut. The clothes were couture riffs on the Lanvin for H&M collection - on sale to benefit Unicef now - but afterward, there was a frenzy for the Lanvin for H&M collection pop-up shop set up downstairs. Many editors walked away with multiple bags, Coppola bought the tulle jacket, and even Wang did a little shopping of his own.

First Look: Alexa Chung's Madewell Collection

>> Last night's launch presentation of Alexa Chung's Madewell collection at the Bowery Hotel Terrace brought out interested parties in droves. Alexa, in short velvet shorts and white safari shirt from the first collection, involved as many of her friends as possible - Poppy Delevigne and Pixie Geldof were on modeling duty, Tennessee Thomas DJed, and Daisy Lowe mingled with the crowd.

The models, replete in cardigans, striped shirts, and Peter Pan-collared dresses, were arranged in tableaus - on a bench, leaning on a retro bicycle, surrounded by vintage suitcases. "It's actually a bit weird to see everyone walking around in the clothes today because they all look like me," Chung said of her designs. "It's a very egotistical exercise."

She doesn't know if the collaboration is a one-time thing - “We haven’t really discussed another [collection] yet but it would be amazing to do" - but she definitely had a hand in the design process - one look at the clothes makes that obvious. "[But] I can't take credit for the hard work at all because I just took sketches in and talked about them," she said. And not all of her sketches made the final cut: "There was one weird leotard - a denim thing - I tried to push on Kin. I was thinking in my head that I could make a stage outfit for a lead singer but it ended up looking like a weird circus child."

The collection hits Madewell stores in August. So is she sticking around in New York, or headed back to London, now that she's done with her MTV gig? "I don’t really know. My rent doesn’t end til June."

Released this morning to promote Love magazine's third issue, The Love Thing features not the supers which graced Katie Grand's eight covers but instead Prada-clad Kasia Struss, Lindsay Wixson, Pixie Geldof, Agyness Deyn, and Dree Hemingway. The models play in traffic while wearing leopard coats, sheer trenches, black garters, or nothing at all.
