>> Despite the emergency meetings held during London Fashion Week to hash out the issue, it sounds like neither Milan or New York officials would budge on their February 2009 Fashion Week dates.
Since London was left with only four days in February between the time Fall 2009 New York Fashion Week ends and Milan Fashion Week begins, the British Fashion Council has decided that one day of London Fashion Week — Feb. 20 — will overlap with New York Fashion Week. According to Hilary Riva, chief executive of the BFC, the decision was made because "the majority of designers showing at London Fashion Week" agreed with the measures being taken.
So much for the fashion cities working together . . .

>> The end of London Fashion Week nears, so where are Cato van Ee, Madeline Kragh, and Austria Alcantara? Madeline's back in New York — she got to London and was deported because she didn't have her passport stamped. Austria made it through customs, but she's already tired — and Milan and Paris are still to come. As for Cato, she's having the most success: At least seven shows this Fashion Week, and her mom even came to watch her walk at Christopher Kane. Will anyone take the biggest casting coup of all season — Prada? That's for the next episode to tell.

>> Sheer is still the word, and Markus Lupfer made it his business to play with the idea as much as possible. His Armand Basi One line showcased transparent tops, see-through skirts, and even wisp-thin pants, all tempered by more substantive, structural pieces. Perhaps most eye-catching were the two-faced Rei Kawakubo-inspired looks, leaving Sessilee Lopez and Daul Kim half-covered up, half-exposed.

>> Does Kate Moss miss the catwalk? She took an impromptu runway stroll for her friend's The House of Blue Eyes fashion show earlier this month, and now she's turned up front row at Vivienne Westwood this evening — a position she hasn't taken since viewing the Topshop Unique line at London Fashion Week two years ago.

>> Over in London today, Richard Nicoll carried on the "Malibu palette" that got started in New York. Vivid pink and tangerine colorblocked their way through the parade, fading into muted shades of blue and gray. This collection seems like London's answer to Francisco Costa's Calvin Klein — Nicoll was inspired by nineties minimalism paired with fifties modernism, after all.

>> It's easy to put together a sheer skirt or two — but when you knit them, it's a whole different story. For her third runway collection, that's just what Louise Goldin did — she knits everything, even high-tech yarns like monofilaments and fiber optics. With that techie inclination in mind, it's no surprise that her Spring 2009 collection veered to the futuristic and was the result of hours spent in scientific libraries.

>> Thank goodness, in this time of economic woe, the four fashion capitals could find it within themselves to reach a "peace agreement."
London Fashion Week — which over the years had brought us Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Gareth Pugh — was in danger of being squeezed into three days. But no more — after a "summit" today in London, New York will move its Fashion Week a week back like it wanted (to avoid the Labor Day holiday), and London Fashion Week will have five days rather than the six it currently has . . . starting in September 2009. As for the more imminent February 2009 shows, those seem to be under less contention, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the "finer details of the deal" fall into place.

>> INSIDER WIRE —During New York Fashion Week, everyone depends on The Daily to shorten the between-show wait time. Now, London Fashion Week has launched a Daily of it's own — and it's downloadable, so you can get the scoop and see those pig-shaped meringues from Luella everyone was talking about — just like the front row. >> Christopher Kane is never one to shy away from pushing the envelope — not even when it involves putting a gaping screenprinted image of a gorilla down the runway — his Spring 2009 collection is inspired by Planet of the Apes (and The Flinestones and Raquel Welch), after all. The circular theme he had going on with all the paillettes in his Fall 2008 collection carried over, this time in the form of layers and layers of chiffon semicircles. In some pieces it was beautiful, in other pieces, a little editing would have gone far — and as for all the marabou, well, we'll just ignore that.
