Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Talks the Spring 2010 Campaign, Runway Casting, and a New Secret Project

>> Riccardo Tisci, fresh off a stint in Rio de Janeiro over the weekend to support Oi Fashion Rocks with a combination men's, women's, and couture fashion show, arrived fashionably late by half an hour yesterday for a guerrilla appearance at Barneys in New York - his first for a trunk show, which was only announced the afternoon before. Endearingly adorable in sneakers and with braces, the designer was on hand to see the launch of his new lower-priced (by forty percent) Capsule collection, which focuses on his iconic white shirts and studded pieces, with a few exclusives for Barneys on tap. We were able to steal a couple of minutes of his time:

You were just in Rio, how was that?

I just got in [to New York] this morning, so I'm a little tired but happy.

You dressed Ciara for her Fashion Rocks Rio performance; she later Twittered, "I'm going to be Givenchy's Muze! So excited!" Do you agree?

Yes, she is a muse. I had never met her before, but it was one of the most amazing moments of my life. We really clicked; I can respect her as an artist and a woman and she respects me as an artist and as a man. I look forward to working with her again soon.

Stefano Pilati Is Seeing Strawberries, Knee Slits for Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2010

>> Stefano Pilati favors supermodels for his Yves Saint Laurent ad campaigns - five seasons strong now - and two showed up front row for the YSL show today: Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss. Pilati, who favors little color, as famously noted by Anna Wintour in The September Issue, stuck to mostly white and black, gray, and tan, with a little emerald, periwinkle blue, and coral pink thrown in for good measure. “It’s many, many ideas, a multiplicity of influences, an aesthetic paradigm of new minimalism,” the designer, often referred to as "cerebral" or "intellectual," said of the collection, which he styles himself.

He drew from Saint Laurent's heritage peasant motif, and added a dollop of strawberries - in prints, appliques, and ceramic earrings, which raised a number of eyebrows but have a fan in at least one influencer; Kate Moss announced backstage, “I want to wear that strawberry dress." For all the sweetness, there was no lack of edge: leather shorts with knee slits are sure to be a hit, and suiting was left with slashed hemlines and loose threads hanging.

Kate Moss Missed Opportunity on Gossip Girl, About to Launch Eleventh Collection for Topshop

>> Kate Moss was supposed to be on Gossip Girl last season, Blake Lively told The Cut, "but it ended up not working out." That missed chance aside, Kate's collaboration with Topshop is still working out - her 11th collection comes out Aug. 31, and focuses on the grunge look, according to Kate: “This season’s grunge is all about being creative about how you put your look together, and not necessarily spending a fortune. It’s about being a little bit surprising and very creative. I love the glamour of adding some vintage to my look, and have done for years, as it keeps things original."

One of her favorite pieces from the collection, captured by Josh Olins below, is a black leather pencil skirt, she told the Times UK: “The shape is really lady, but the leather gives it a real grungy, cool, rock’n’roll feel, especially if you wear it with shredded tights and lived-in leather army boots."

>> Kate Moss Is Sweeping the September 2009 Covers -We've known that Kate Moss is getting the September 2009 W cover - preview, by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, at left - for a while, but she's surprised us with at least a couple of other major September covers (and you never know, maybe more are on the way). Her Vogue UK cover came out last week, and now comes the news that she has the Vogue Russia cover as well, although no preview is available yet. The take-away message? Editors still feel that Kate sells, and are willing to put her on their biggest issues of the year. [TFS]

Kate Moss Caught Between Entertainment Ventures, Now That Simon Fuller Has Acquired Her Modeling Agency Storm

>> Any hope that Sir Phillip Green and Simon Cowell may have had for Kate Moss to act as a judge on one of their shows in development may have just gone down the tubes: Simon Fuller, creator of American Idol, which helped Cowell rise to fame, just took a majority stake of 51 percent in Moss's model agency, Storm.

Fuller has been in talks with Storm's founders, Sarah Doukas and her brother Simon Chambers, for the past year and aims to “help create new joint entertainment platforms for its talent, as well as developing the Storm brand in new and exciting directions.” Doukas hopes the partnership "will provide Storm with the opportunity to work competitively, creatively and on an international level," and Fuller elaborated that the deal will allow them to “push the boundaries, blur the lines and redefine what a model agency should be in this fast moving world, where fashion is playing an increasingly important role in setting and reflecting cultures and tastes.”

September Issues: UK Fashion Mags Stick to Models (Save Elle), While US Mags Go with Actresses

>> The biggest issues of the year - for September - are trickling in, so who was chosen to be a big newsstand seller for each major fashion book? Both Harper's Bazaar UK and Vogue UK chose models - Natalia Vodianova by Paola Kudacki and Kate Moss by Mario Testino, respectively - while Harper's Bazaar and Vogue went with actresses - Leighton Meester by Terry Richardson and Charlize Theron (the latter of which is not yet out). American Vogue's choice of an actress is no surprise - in upcoming documentary The September Issue, the magazine's creative director Grace Coddington credits Anna Wintour with foreseeing the power of using celebrities on covers before anyone else - but the model/celebrity divide between the two countries is striking.

Meanwhile at Elle, both UK and US versions chose actresses: the former Lindsay Lohan by Rankin, the latter Jennifer Aniston (a well-known strong newsstand seller) by Alexei Hay.

Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Karen Mulder Meet Up with Designers for a Little Yacht Vacationing

>> It's that time of year: When designers take to their yachts and famous faces join them. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been tooling around in their boat for the past week or so, first with Eva Mendes and then with Jennifer Lopez, before joining Naomi Campbell and her boyfriend Vladislav Doronin in Capri for a little karaoke over the weekend. The holiday hasn't been all fun for Naomi, though: a photographer claimed she slapped him and hit him with her handbag in Sicily; her rep denies anything happened.

And over in Saint-Tropez today, Kate Moss and her boyfriend Jamie Hince took to a yacht called "Serenity" with Karen Mulder - who hopefully got her arrest resolved - and Stefano Pilati, who has a summer place in the area. They lunched at Club 55 and then took to a little impromptu photo session (NSFW) and topless sunbathing; this isn't the first time Kate has vacationed with a designer - last year it was Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone.
