Meredith Wendell's Gorgeously Sporty Fall 2011 Collection

>> Accessories line Meredith Wendell is relatively new - but its colorblock bags, quirky-chic belts, and geo-pop baubles are already regular fixtures on the pages of Vogue, Elle, W, Harper's Bazaar, and Marie Claire. Created in 2008 by husband-and-wife duo Meredith and Wendell German, the line features strong silhouettes, luxurious textures, and richly-vibrant color combinations - a sporty-luxe aesthetic that's right in step with the mood of recent seasons. "The color inspiration comes mainly from The Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia. I spent my childhoods there, and the Dorothy Draper-designed interiors are so vibrant and dynamic, it’s hard not to become inspired," Meredith explains. In fact, In fact, the Greenbrier is such a strong influence that in recent seasons, the Germans have traveled to West Virginia to shoot the line's lookbooks - lushly styled by friend and creative collaborator Beth Fenton - on the grounds of the storied hotel.

An Up-Close Look at Waris Ahluwalia's New Scarf Collection; Plus, His Fall 2011 Jewelry

>> It's no secret that Waris Ahluwalia is into craftsmanship. The jewelry in his House of Waris line has always been made using traditional techniques, with everything - right down to the chains on the pendants - fashioned completely by hand. It should come as no surprise then, that Ahluwalia's debut scarf collection employs that same dedication to history and artisanal techniques. Superfine cashmere is hand-loomed and hand-embroidered in a precise honeycomb "Kundun" pattern, handwoven silks and gauzy silk-cotton are batik-dyed, block-printed, hand-dyed, or silk-screened, and hems are all neatly finished by hand. It's not just the attention to detail or the heirloom fabrics that make this new collection of scarves so appealing, however - it's also the gorgeous color combinations and striking graphic patterns. Though meant to be unisex (or, as Waris says, "We don't believe in unisex, just more sex"), it's easy to imagine these pretty prints and super-soft fabrics evolving into a collection of dresses, skirts, and blouses. Waris's next project, perhaps? It's a suggestion the designer seems to have heard before, but if it's in the works, he's not talking. When pressed, his answer is a shrug, a wry smile, and a quiet: "I hope not."

Whimsical, yes, but that should be no surprise from a designer known for her witty, surrealistic approach. "Love is in the Hair" has Delettrez revisiting some of her favorite themes - anatomy, memory, nature - resulting in a collection of keepsakes which are both amusing and appealing. Fashioned from unusual materials, the collection is filled with what read like tiny works of art; there are hairpins decorated with lips, heart-shaped resin pendants hanging from studded-leather collars, precious metal and stone "DNA" necklaces, and a miniature metallic purse that dangles from a rose gold ring.
