>> Victoria Beckham For October Elle, Not Vogue; Michelle Obama to Be on Vogue Cover Again? - Though rumors placed Victoria Beckham on the October issue of Vogue, she's said to be fronting the October issue of Elle instead. And Michelle Obama, whose March 2009 cover of Vogue sold 560,000 newsstand copies (by comparison, Vogue's September 2008 issue sold 559,000 copies) may be back soon for another cover. Jourdan Dunn Talks Pregnancy, the "Unnecessary Competition" Among Black Models, and Joins Sessilee, Chanel, and Arlenis in i-D

>> Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, Chanel Iman, and Arlenis Sosa Pena reunited a year after the all-black issue of Vogue Italia to shoot the September 2009 cover of i-D under a railroad arch and next to a go-kart track in East London.

Jourdan is pregnant (she's due in December - with a boy, according to Sessilee) and chats with i-D about how she may be out for a season, but doesn't plan on leaving the scene. As for the father of her child, who she's generally very private about: "My boyfriend didn't even know I was a model when I started going out with him and we've been together for three years now. It's hard, you never really know whether people want to be around Jourdan or Jourdan Dunn, and he's been there from when I was just Jourdan."

Edward Enninful, who styled the shoot - which can be seen here - calls Jourdan "reserved" in the video below, but she's very outspoken when it comes to her work: "There are loads of black models working and the idea that there's only a few of us, or four of us, to let in as top models at any one time is just bullsh*t. It creates an unnecessary competition when we should be standing together."

Chanel chimes in: "It usually takes an ethnic girl - I'm not saying black, I'm saying ethnic, let's make that clear - twice as long. We've gotta work extra-hard to stay in the game and stay with the girls who do well but aren't ethnic. Some girls can skip seasons, but us ethnic girls, we cannot skip a season because that'll kill us."

>> Daphne Guinness spent some time last month being photographed by Steven Klein for an upcoming issue of Vogue Italia, but she also spent ten days out of July in Maui on a shoot with i-D and Vogue Italia photographer David LaChapelle. She blogged today of the experience:

"We’ve been shooting for 10 days straight. Sometimes twenty hour shoots in a day, from the deepest jungle to the volcanic cliffs, moving sets and equipment constantly. Working directly with the elements, the downpours, changing height and distances and moving the equipment has all been a challenge. The results are completely remarkable."

>> BLOWING THE COVER -i-D seems to be having a love affair with multiple covers - they did twelve for their March 2009 issue, and the same idea is in the works for the June 2009 issue. Already, six girls have been photographed for what happens to be the magazine's 300th issue, so expect "a blockbuster affair." The only clue on who the lucky ladies are? One is a "gorgeous American who has been MIA from the scene for few years now. You've caught a glimpse of her in Vogue Paris and on the Givenchy FW 09 runway." Twelve British Models, Twelve i-D Covers for March 2009

>> Last week, Edward Enninful was in Goa, India, styling a shoot for Vogue, but this week, it's all about i-D and England - he brought together twelve British faces - past and present - for i-D's March 2009 Best of British issue. "The confirmations were instant - it was about doing something for England, and models have been so faceless - British models always have personality."

Together with Solve Sundsbo, Enninful styled each of the twelve covers to bring out the character of the individual model - "I went though a great thought process - we didn't want clichés and stereotypes" - "rock 'n' roll Kate" Moss as a mature woman and fashion designer, "ageless" British models like Twiggy, newcomer Eliza Cummins, who is also moonlighting on the new Dazed & Confused (NSFW), symbolizing British grit with a snarl. To further the emphasis on personality, each cover face has her own cover quote summing up her outlook, from Stella Tennant - "I don't really fit the box" - to Agyness Deyn - "Feel the fear and do it anyway." Leave it to Naomi Campbell to bring the non sequitur: "I love a Sunday roast."

Here's another tidbit for McBeha conspiracists - Freja talking in the February 2009 i-D about her unnamed "love": "My love means the world to me! We have a very special bond of understanding, friendship, and love, and I'm grateful to have such a beautiful person in my life to share the little and the bigs things with.
