Michael Kors, Brian Atwood Are Both Getting Married

>> Earlier today, Brian Atwood celebrated his birthday by getting engaged to boyfriend Dr. Jake Deutsch - he posted a picture on Twitter with the caption, "Just engaged."

Atwood is not the only designer heading for a wedding, now that gay marriage is legal in New York state. Michael Kors and longtime boyfriend Lance LePere, who first met in 1990 when LePere was a Kors intern (he's now a creative director at the label), applied for and received their marriage license yesterday at the Manhattan City Clerk's office. “Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together,” said Kors. “We have no plans for a major party, but we will be getting married privately.”

Rumors of Riccardo Tisci's Confirmation at Dior Still Lingering

>> A week ago, Derek Blasberg twittered that Riccardo Tisci has been confirmed to take over at Dior, as did Grazia's editor-at-large. Hours later came rumors that Tisci had not only been confirmed at Dior but had already signed a contract with the house. Although there hasn't been a peep from Dior, the rumor is still lingering. A couple of days ago, fashion CEO Susan Tabak twittered: "Sources tell me as Riccardo Tisci moves to Dior - his pr staff goes along too. And now I hear Givenchy Haute Couture - finito." And this morning, Brian Atwood tweeted: "So I hear it's confirmed that Tisci is headed to Dior. Possibly with a mutual friend. Wonder when it will be announced." Would that mutual friend be Carine Roitfeld? [@Susan_Tabak, @Susan_Tabak, @Brian_Atwood]

>> “[My new line] is strong and confident with kind of a bohemian statement,” said Brian Atwood, when describing his new lower-priced B by Brian Atwood line, set to be unveiled tomorrow evening. “[The customer is] a bit worldly and loves shoes with a playful attitude but that are always feminine and sexy.” He continues: “I would definitely say there’s three kinds of aesthetics melted together: Upper East Side poshness, mixed with downtown cool, along with a Parisian sophistication."
The complete collection will feature 35 to 45 styles, ranging from $100 for sandals to $650 for boots, and will be available beginning in mid-August. Atwood also hinted at the possibility of adding jewelry and handbags to the line for Spring 2012. “We’ve spoken about jewelry, handbags, ready-to-wear, but we won’t do that until we do it with the main line,” said Atwood. “We started in shoes and it’s been a great experience so far.” Peep the slideshow to see select pieces from the collection, including a gorgeous pair of forest green fringed booties, along with closeup shots.

Brian Atwood Reveals What He's Thinking for His Signature Line's Ready-to-Wear Component

>> When Brian Atwood announced last month that he is rolling out a contemporary line, B Brian Atwood, next season, he also hinted that ready-to-wear for his high-end Brian Atwood line could premiere as early as next year. In a new interview with WWD, Atwood reveals that he's also eyeing handbags, men's shoes, jewelry and sunglasses for his signature collection:

"Ready-to-wear is very high on the list. I'm all about the glamour and the sexy part of dressing women. It would have some gorgeous dresses and maybe a fur and great leather jackets, things that women wear and love to be dressed in. And I would like to get into handbags, jewelry and sunglasses. If it fits and makes sense to the brand, then we should be open to doing it . . . I've even played around with doing a men's collection, but men aren't like women, so it's a little more complicated, but so much fun. If I get really excited about something, I want to do it . . . I'd want to [launch new categories] with the core collection first, so [if we're going to do additional categories with B Brian Atwood within three years], we have got to move on this."

Atwood, who started out at Versace and then designed for Bally until last year, also mentioned that he doesn't plan to design for another fashion house again: "No. It's now about building [Brian Atwood]."

Brian Atwood Hints at Ready-to-Wear, Announces Contemporary Line B Brian Atwood

>> Brian Atwood has just inked a deal with Jones Apparel Group to create a new contemporary clothing and accessories line, B Brian Atwood, set to launch for Fall 2011. The footwear guru - who was reportedly asked to leave his role as creative director for Bally earlier this year - describes his upcoming clothing line (and ready-to-wear for his high-end Brian Atwood line, possibly premiering in around a year) as, “a little more sexed up than you would see at Bally.”

B Brian Atwood footwear will roll out first in Fall 2011 - with prices ranging from $200 to $500 - and a focus more on flats and mid-heel heights instead of the sky-high heels that typically populate Atwood's signature line. Jewelry and handbags will launch the year after, with clothing and sunglasses coming in the following seasons after that.

Brian Atwood Collaborates With Rachel Zoe and Victoria Beckham

InStyle magazine and the CFDA hosted a dinner in Los Angeles Wednesday night where superstar stylist Rachel Zoe revealed she has designed a pair of over-the-knee platform boots for Brian Atwood's namesake brand. The black suede boot with chain detail will cost $2,915 and appear in stores this month. "I own every shoe Brian has ever made," said Zoe, who happily shared the pair had been friends for fifteen years and first met while dancing on tables in Paris.

Also on tap for Atwood: a footwear collaboration with Victoria Beckham and new category expansions. Without divulging details Wednesday night, Brian Atwood did make it clear he was thinking big: “Ralph Lauren started in ties and look what he has become."

>> Those rumors last September of Brian Atwood stepping down from Bally have proven to be correct: the designer just presented his last collection for the label for Fall 2010 and is moving on to focus on his own label.

Atwood was hired in 2007 to revamp and revitalize the Swiss brand's image - but in April 2008, Bally was sold to Labelux Group, which has also recently purchased stakes in Derek Lam, Solange Azagury-Partride, and Zagliani, and it sounds like Atwood was asked to leave. It's rumored Labelux wants the brand more focused on its Swiss heritage, as exemplified by the Spring 2010 Bally ad campaign, featuring Christy Turlington against a background of Alps.
