Style.com Moved from Conde Nast Digital to Under Fairchild's Wing

>> Condé Nast Digital isn't going to have Style.com and Vogue.com as friendly competitors, as was envisioned in August, after all. Style.com and its staff of about 15 are moving from under Condé Nast Digital to Fairchild Fashion Group, the publisher of WWD. Gina Sanders, president and CEO of Fairchild, said she proposed the move a few months ago, because with Style.com, Fairchild will be able to “speak to both business executives and consumers obsessed with fashion." Style.com's editorial team, including editor Dirk Standen, will now report to Fairchild editorial director Peter Kaplan. [WWD, WSJ]

RIP, DNR

>> Men's fashion doesn't seem to be the forte over at Conde Nast. Less than a month ago, Men's Vogue was folded into Vogue, and now the same thing is happening with DNR, Women's Wear Daily's brother menswear publication.

After DNR ceases publication Nov. 24, WWD will absorb all men's coverage, both online and in print. Come December, a WWDMen's channel will be added to WWD.com, and every Thursday starting in January, WWD will publish in-depth WWDMen's reports.

How times have changed - DNR has been around since 1892 and ironically, WWD was originally a small feature within before it was spun off into its own publication in 1910.

The site is getting a total revamp, with a more interactive interface, slideshow and video features, and what looks to be a new, and hopefully improved, search function. There will even be a blog! Women's Wear Daily — they're just like us.

Fairchild Fashion Media, the company that owns WWD and Style.com, announced today that it has acquired Fashion Networks International LLC, which owns NowManifest. The site plays host to blogs written by Bryanboy, Anna Dello Russo, Elin Kling, and Derek Blasberg, among others. [Fashion Etc.]

Jean Paul Gaultier took his first trip to China this week for a presentation of his Fall 2012 ready-to-wear and couture collections. The show drew a crowd of almost a thousand people. Indonesia's national police have canceled Lady Gaga's June 3 concert in Jakarta after religious groups and conservative lawmakers protested against her sometimes racy choreography and stage costumes. The police said they decided to deny a permit because they couldn't guarantee security at the concert, which would have hosted the largest audience of Gaga's "Born This Way" tour in Asia. [The Cut]
Tyra Banks wrote an open letter to aspiring models in light of Vogue's new Health Initiative, encouraging women all over the world to embrace their flaws. Naomi Campbell is set to star in her very own reality modeling show called The Face. The show, which will air on Oxygen starting next year, will see Campbell and two other as-of-yet-undetermined supermodels supervising three teams of models who will compete until one is chosen as the face of a brand in the United States. "With The Face the audience will get a real insider's look at this exciting industry that has been so good to me," Campbell said. [The Huffington Post]
Kate Moss is donating a portrait of herself taken by Solve Sundsbo to a May 17 auction sponsoring Britain's National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The portrait features Moss wearing nothing but a pair of gold pants and crossing her arms to cover her breasts. Its starting price is £3,000, or $4,866 at current exchange. [Vogue UK]
Linda Evangelista will find out this week whether a judge will grant her the $46,000 a month in child support she requested from PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault to help raise their 5-year-old son, Augustin. Alice Temperley is working with British high street label John Lewis on a capsule collection that will debut in September. Called Somerset by Alice Temperley, the line will range from $50 scarves to a $1,600 sheepskin coat. Day dresses will hit the $160 mark. There's been no formal explanation of why The Gap fired its creative director Patrick Robinson, but former members of the retailer's executive team say "his designs seemed lost on Gap customers." He also didn't want customers to see clothes styled any other way than how he showed them originally. Karl Lagerfeld will provide live fashion commentary of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee for French state TV channel France 2. He's reprising his role from last year's royal wedding ceremonies, which he called a procession of "bad proportions, ugly hats, [and] short skirts on fat legs." Lagerfeld will go on air June 3. Tucker designer Gaby Basora worked with director Zoe Cassavetes on a silent film showcasing her Spring 2012 collection. A newspaper in Thailand reported that the country is getting its very own edition of Vogue, hot on the heels of the new edition that just launched in the Netherlands. If the story is to be believed, current Elle Thailand editor Kullawit Laosuksri would be the new magazine's editor-in-chief. He'd also be the only man in the all-women Vogue editors-in-chief club. Mulberry decided to release its new Del Rey handbag, named after singer Lana Del Rey, a few weeks early. Its flagship stores in New York, London, and Singapore started carrying the bag today - Del Rey herself has had one since February - but the rest of the world will have until May to purchase the $1,250 bag. Singer Adam Levine wasn't debriefed before his supermodel ex-girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna told the world they'd broken up. Police are on the hunt for a "chic, well-dressed woman" they believe is responsible for the theft of a $17,000 handbag from the Ralph Lauren women's boutique on New York's Upper East Side. Kate Young's styling work for Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams has earned her the title as most powerful stylist of 2012. Young tops the list of The Hollywood Reporter's 25 power stylists, trailed closely by Petra Flannery (spot three) and Christina Hastings (spot 10). On the same day that Barneys fashion director Amanda Brooks announced that she was leaving the company and moving to London, Harper's Bazaar UK editor Lucy Yeomans announced that she's leaving to direct the editorial efforts at Net-a-Porter.
