Streetstyle Photog Couple Snag More Vogue Space: The Sartorialist with Vogue Italia, Garance Dore with Vogue Paris

>> Scott "The Sartorialist" Schuman, whose first book came out last week, is about to add another Vogue edition to his resume: Vogue Italia. Schuman has photographed for Vogue Paris in the past - Carine Roitfeld is a fan - and seems to have won over Franca Sozzani: he recently shot Rachel Rutt for Vogue Italia.

His girlfriend and fellow streetstyle photographer Garance Dore has also been amping up her reach: this Fall, she will have more frequent contributions on Vogue Paris's website and perhaps in the magazine, focusing on the magazine's "Une fille, un style" ("A girl, a style") column, plus "behind-the-scenes coverage of fashion shoots, profiles of stylish women around the world in collaboration with French Vogue editor in chief Carine Roitfeld and other subjects of her choosing."

And last week, Patrick Robinson announced that Garance would be collaborating with Gap on an exhibit in their London pop-up next month, with her sketches (like the one above, left) on T-shirts.

>> Daphne Guinness spent some time last month being photographed by Steven Klein for an upcoming issue of Vogue Italia, but she also spent ten days out of July in Maui on a shoot with i-D and Vogue Italia photographer David LaChapelle. She blogged today of the experience:

"We’ve been shooting for 10 days straight. Sometimes twenty hour shoots in a day, from the deepest jungle to the volcanic cliffs, moving sets and equipment constantly. Working directly with the elements, the downpours, changing height and distances and moving the equipment has all been a challenge. The results are completely remarkable."

Steven Meisel, Vogue Italia Love Their Ladies Over 40: Linda Evangelista for August 2009; Daphne Guinness to Appear in September

>> Steven Meisel seems to have temporarily moved on from his usual just-signed-model cover fare for Vogue Italia to women with a little more life experience - 42-year-old Kristen McMenamy was on the cover and heavily featured in the July 2009 issue, and now, for the August 2009, it's all about 44-year-old Linda Evangelista, whose image is juxtaposed on the cover with the phrase "refined style."

We've only got clues - no names - about who will be the September multiple cover stars - but the tradition will be carried on in that issue by 41-year-old Daphne Guinness, who was photographed by Steven Klein in July for a 20-plus-page editorial based on a 60's cult French film that she promises will be "darker and moodier. A new side of me.”

Vogue Italia Rings In One Year All-Black Issue Anniversary with Barbie

>> Is an ode to women of color becoming an annual thing for Vogue Italia? In its July 2009 issue, one year after the iconic all-black July 2008 issue, Franca Sozzani decided to use only black dolls in the issue's supplement commemorating 50 years of Barbie: “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to black Barbie.”

The supplement features the dolls - which are part of the newly-launched "So In Style" collection and are designed "with more authentic-looking black features, including . . . fuller lips, a wider nose, more distinctive cheekbones and curlier hair," dressed, posed, and photographed in editorial-like settings - see a few more pictures from inside here.

>> Vogue Italia September Cover Hints, August 2009 Vogue Paris Not All Daria Werbowy -Yesterday, we got quite a few September cover star confirmations, but Vogue Italia was left out. Now, thanks to The Imagist, we have a few clues - September 2009 is set to be a "multiple cover extravaganza," each cover a standalone - "think compelling blonde (or two) weighed against a surprisingly unique choice of a brunette." Meanwhile, Rihanna - who Anna Wintour is rumored to have passed on - is said to have an upcoming VI editorial by Steven Klein. And as for August 2009 Vogue Paris, which was previously reported to focus entirely on Daria Werbowy, it seems that she's not exclusive: other models appear in the entirely Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin-lensed issue. >> Kristen McMenamy has been resurrected on and off for the past few years since her heyday in the '90s, making an appearance on the Spring 2008 Givenchy runway and in the Fall 2006 Marc Jacobs campaign, and now Steven Meisel has brought the her back for the July 2009 cover of Vogue Italia and an accompanying 31-page spread dubbed "The Legend." For anyone, a Vogue Italia cover is a score, but it's not every day that Meisel - who generally likes to go with green talent for the magazine - picks a 42-year-old, nearly two decade fashion veteran.

Sessilee Lopez tweeted about a Vogue shoot she did with Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin today, and COACD confirmed it was for Vogue Paris - her first with the magazine. >> INSIDER WIRE -Yesterday, a blind item circulated about a major publication letting their contract with a star photographer near the end without renewal - many drew the conclusion that it might be talking about Steven Meisel, who has photographed every cover of Vogue Italia for almost twenty-one years. However, a source who seems to know the ins and outs of Meisel - including that he turned down shooting the Missoni, Christian Dior, Max Mara, and DSquared2 campaigns for Fall 2009 because of money, and that he recently shot the Roberto Cavalli campaign in New York with two girls and a boy - says it's not him.
