Visionaire Pays Tribute to Alexander McQueen With the Release of Issue #58

Titled "Spirit," the 58th issue of Visionaire promises to be a collectable. Dedicated to the late Alexander McQueen, artists including Nick Knight, Lady Gaga, Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, Steven Meisel, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin have contributed content to the tome. Packaged in a hard case designed by the McQueen studio and wrapped in metallic brocade from the spring 2010 Plato's Atlantis collection, Visionaire #58 will be sold in a limited edition of 1,500 this June for $295. Furthermore, the paper stock is loose leaf sprinkled with wild flower seeds that, when planted with water, grow poppies and snap dragons for your very own McQueen-inspired garden.

“In 2003, McQueen came to our SoHo ofﬁce and gallery to discuss collaborating on an issue of Visionaire…an issue that never came to be. This is our tribute to him,” said Stephen Gan, Cecilia Dean and James Kaliardos of Visionaire in a statement.

Francisco Costa Pushes the Idea of Resort 2010 with Sheer Dresses for Calvin Klein

>> Francisco Costa was busy playing host Monday night at Calvin Klein's joint party with Visionaire, but today he sent out the label's diaphanous Cruise 2010 collection, without a bikini or caftan in sight. The resort season has been noticeably growing in scope this time around, and though Cathy Horyn was a fan of Costa's semi-sheer fabrics, WWD cautioned:

A long-standing argument against such [formal runway] presentations for resort is that inevitably, some designers will crossover to the too-editorial side . . . Francisco Costa went too far with the clothes in a season endlessly touted as all about dressing for reality - nearly every piece was transparent . . . almost everything needed an underpinning, and anyone wanting to know what Calvin Klein resort will look like in the stores needs a trip to the showroom.

Ohne Titel Straddles Primitive Egyptian Modernity for Spring 2010

>> Ohne Titel's Alexa Adams and Flora Gill told Fashionista backstage that their Spring 2010 collection was their strongest yet, and they weren't kidding. Inspired by "the graphic lines, lush textures, and bold colors in Egyptian reliefs and sculptures," according to their show notes, Adams and Gill adapted their signature tailoring and body-con sensibilities to span an oxymoronic look of primitive modernity. They elaborated to The Cut: "We looked at a lot of wall painting and sculptures, and so we’re kind of playing with taking those same kind of proportions and applying them on the body."

Lace-up heels, flats, and thigh-high boots done in collaboration with Cesare Paciotti are sure to have the shoehounds drooling, and the prevalent texture in the collection - including patches of multicolored hand embroidery - was exquisite. Alastair McKimm, who worked with Alexander Wang the last two seasons, styled, and both Cathy Horyn and Visionaire's Cecilia Dean appeared front row.

Visionaire, a fashion and arts publication, has released a new collaboration with urban toy creator Kidrobot: MORE TOYS. These soft vinyl toys are released in two sets of five toys, the Blue Set, customised by the likes of Jean Galliano, Helmut Lang, Jean Paul Gaultier, YSL, and Giorgio Armani, and the Yellow Set, customised by Pucci, Comme des Garcons, Gucci, Maison Martin Margiela, and Vivienne Westwood. Each set also contains accessories these toy fashionistas wouldn't want to be caught dead without -- a cell phone, a martini glass, a camera, and a flower. And they can even hold hands -- isn't that just so cute (and non-fashion-industry-like)?

Maybe you think so, but I personally am not impressed. I think they're really dumb, actually. I mean really, who wants to pay $175 and burn some plastic (your credit card) in exchange for some more plastic (dolls)? Not me -- my money is better spent elsewhere. But here's my favorite part: this edition got released because the last issue, TOYS (a collaboration with designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen), did so well. I'm just wondering about two things: 1) Who buys these things? and 2) How did they get people like too-good-for-you Karl Lagerfeld to design a toy? Me, I'm stumped. You got any clue?
