>> Yesterday, Vena Cava debuted a new shoe collaboration with Via Spiga during their Spring 2009 presentation - four styles to go along with the collection's Egyptomania theme, involving odd skins like monkfish and salmon. Perhaps most fun was the way Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai chose to present - in their quirky Vena Cava way. The models wore them, of course, but they also piled a whole bunch of pairs together and then labeled it like an art piece in a museum: "Vena Cava in collaboration with Via Spiga. Untitled, 2008. Monkfish, salmon skin, cowhide, metal findings."

Vena Cava Gets Shoes, Sponsorship Via Spiga

Vena Cava is debuting a capsule footwear collection for Via Spiga during New York Fashion Week. The four shoe styles — the first ever for the label — go with Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai's Spring 2009 "Egyptomania" theme, involving a palette of muted colors, mixed materials like monkfish and salmon skin, and pyramid-shaped silver hardware.

The deal, which extends three seasons, involves Via Spiga sposoring Vena Cava's shows during that time, and marks the first designer collaboration for the footwear brand. The shoes are expected to retail between $300 and $850, and mark Vena Cava's continued extension into the accessories market. Up next, the designers foresee eyewear, more handbags, and umbrellas in the line's signature prints.

Vena Cava Get Together With Uniqlo For Collaboration

>> Vena Cava's Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock - whose past collaborators include Via Spiga, Gap, and Bloomingdale's - have a new partner. “We’re about to do [a collaboration] with Uniqlo,” Buhai announced at a Fashion Group International-hosted panel discussion on entrepreneurship yesterday. “Lisa and I were at a point where we felt like we were getting stagnant,” Buhai elaborated. “Fashion is cyclical, but when you add in different projects, you feel like you’re learning again.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to articulate our brand in a way that’s more mass,” Mayock added. “We just want to make sure whatever we do has our stamp on it,” Buhai concluded, giving no further detail.

>> Vena Cava Launching Handbags for Fall 2011, Designers Hope to Build "Lifestyle Empire" -Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, who both hail from Los Angeles, have paired up with LA boutique TenOverSix for shoes, which will debut on Thursday during Vena Cava's Spring 2011 presentation; the duo has worked with Via Spiga in the past, starting with the Spring 2009 season. Come the Fall 2011 season, Mayock and Buhai are adding handbags for the first time: "They're going to be mostly structured pieces in the $700 price range. There's nothing else out there at that price point except for Alexander Wang. We're also doing some small leather goods like wallets and evening bag type styles." >> After his Spring 2009 footwear debut had a waitlist of 900 at Opening Ceremony, Alexander Wang is going full speed ahead with accessories, he tells W. Eyewear will debut for Spring 2010, and he's expanding his T collection to include more than just cotton tanks and T-shirts, but the concept will still incorporate the “T-shirt culture of throwing something on and running out of the house.”

With increasingly more attention, Wang is careful about getting to schticky: "I’ve seen so many designers fall into that trap. The fun part is being able to evolve and challenge yourself . . . If you get too comfortable, it’s not invigorating. I’ve always remembered something Marc Jacobs said in an interview: As soon as people get used to what you’re doing, you have to change direction.”
