From left to right: Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling. Kate Middleton Tops Vanity Fair's 2011 Best-Dressed List

>> Vanity Fair has released a preview of its 2011 International Best-Dressed List today, with Kate Middleton - recognized for her "whirlwind of fashion successes" - on top (Her inaugural appearance on the list came back in 2008.). Another recently-married royal - Charlene Wittstock - makes her list debut, and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is back for the fourth time. Michelle Obama, meanwhile, who is on the list for the fourth year running, makes her first appearance together with Barack Obama in the Best-Dressed Couples category.

As actresses go, Carey Mulligan shows up for a second time; same goes for Tilda Swinton, who's returning after a three-year hiatus. Shala Monroque appears for the first time, while Claire and Virginie Courtin-Clarins and Cara, Chloe, and Poppy Delevingne all make the Siblings category. And Lady Gaga is given her second recognition in the Fashion Originals category, where she's joined by Vanessa Paradis.

Tonchi has brought his taste for featuring lesser-known actors and actresses to W - his first cover features Mad Men's Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall (who costars with Hamm in Ben Affleck's upcoming crime drama The Town), shot by lesser-known photographer Nathaniel Goldberg (the W of yesteryear largely featured cover photos by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Steven Klein, and their ilk).

>> After losing the T editorship - which she at one point thought she was a shoo-in for - to Sally Singer, the magazine's fashion director Anne Christensen has resigned from her post. She wrote to WWD during a break from styling for Vogue China: “I’ve had a great 10 years at the Times and T magazines under 2 creative and smart editors: Amy Spindler and Stefano Tonchi. I’m very proud of the work I’ve done there and particularly proud of the upcoming Fall women’s T that I worked very hard on. Now I’m happy to move on to other adventures. I wish Sally Singer the best of luck. She has inherited a wonderful group of people at T.” As for her future: “I do want to explore other magazine possibilities. I like having magazine as a base - for a stylist, it gives you a real voice, and that’s important. And I have a great freelance career that I will continue, as well.”

Christian Louboutin Estimates 3,000 Women Have 500 Pairs of His Shoes Each; Danielle Steele Has 6,000 Pairs

>> Christian Louboutin's business grew by the double digits last year, he tells Vanity Fair in a profile from the magazine's May 2010 issue. He sells more than 340,000 pairs of shoes annually, ranging from $495 up to an amount he won't reveal (but a custom-made pair of Louboutins, like one with sole made entirely of rubies, can be priced into the high five figures). In fact, at a dinner soon after the financial crisis, he recalled his reaction to be, "What's 'credit crunch'? Is that a new gym?"

The designer doesn't believe in advertising or marketing and he claims to have never "pushed" celebrities into wearing his shoes on the red carpet. "My goal has never been to make money." Some celebrities receive a discount at his boutiques, but he rarely gives shoes away.

Danielle Steel Owns Over 6,000 Pairs of Christian Louboutin Shoes

In the May issue of Vanity Fair, Christian Louboutin claims his business grew by double digits in 2009 despite his opposition to advertising and marketing. He rarely gives away shoes for free, and only a handful of celebrities receive discounts when shopping in his boutiques.

We're guessing Danielle Steel is one of those lucky customers. Louboutin tells the magazine, "She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, ‘I’m a little disappointed - there’s nothing in the store,’ and walks out with 80 pairs. She is super.”

Super, indeed, as Steel reportedly owns over 6,000 paris of red-soled Louboutins.
