>> BLOWING THE COVER —A red swim cap makes its way onto two Vogue covers for November 2008: Vanessa Paradis in Miu Miu — since she is their Fall 2008 campaign girl — for Vogue Paris by Miu Miu campaign photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and Alana Zimmer by Tom Munro for Russian Vogue. Vogue Paris's next issue is their December/January issue, which always has a fun guest editor — Kate Moss, John Galliano, Charlotte Gainsbourg — but no announcement yet. It has to come soon, right? >> "VP" may stand for Vanessa Paradis, but it also brings "very prosaic" to mind when it comes to the Fall 2008 Miu Miu ads. The stop signs and road lines are themes that Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have visited many times before. Plus, the set-up and juicy colors are very similar to their branding season after season of the Louis Vuitton campaign.
That said, I like the frizzy hair, 70s-inspired heavy blush, and super-bright colors — they assimilate those insane scuba-inspired Miu Miu clothes well.

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —The first full Vanessa Paradis ad looked more Louis Vuitton than Miu Miu, but this new preview of another Miu Miu image just popped up, looking better than the first. [E! Online]

>> Out with the Kirsten Dunst, in with the Vanessa Paradis for Miuccia Prada's scuba-inspired Fall 2008 Miu Miu collection. Prada chose the former Chanel face because of her "powerful independence" and "overlapping qualities of fragility and feminine strength." Looks like Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have been here to work their usual . . .

>> The models may be winning the ad campaign race for Fall — besides a couple of notable exceptions, Charlotte Gainsbourg for Balenciaga and Vanessa Paradis for Miu Miu — but celebrities are taking over at the CFDA Awards on Monday night.
The Womenswear Designer of the Year award will be presented by the trio of Victoria Beckham (representing nominee Marc Jacobs), Eva Mendes (for nominee Calvin Klein), and Maggie Gyllenhaal (fronting nominee Proenza Schouler). Meanwhile, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are announcing the Accessory Designer of the Year, and Mandy Moore is doing the Swarovski Award honors. Let's hope there still some models out there in the crowd for posterity . . .
