Paul Rowland Snaps 19 Models for Witchy 96-Page V Supplement

>> The 96-page September issue insert The Imagist teased back in June turned out to be for V: Paul Rowland, founder of Women and Supreme agencies, photographed 19 of his models in studio back in April with help from stylist Nicholas Grasa. His inspirations were "Joel-Peter Witkin, paganism, mysticism, vampires, witches — all the things I love," and V has a video of the shoot in action, which required Hannelore Knuts to have raw meat draped over her chest and the rope holding it together lit on fire on both ends. The supplement will be available with V61 in select cities.
Maybe this whole project is the start of a move into a new arena for Rowland? As V puts it: "Rowland, whose lavish and intricate agency show packages are the talk of the industry each season, has a creative verve that extends beyond model agency moving and shaking, and into photography and fine art. After this outing, however, he might need his own magazine as well."
>> V A Model Winner Lea Groesland Debuts First Major Spread —Last month, 15-year-old Norwegian Lea Groesland followed in the footsteps of Amanda Laine and Addison Gill as this year's V A Model Winner. She debuts her first major spread — which she told Models.com was one of her first shoots ever — in the upcoming V #61 issue, out Sept. 1, with Lady Gaga on the cover. She was photographed by Hasse Nielsen and is wearing no other than Alexander Wang, who helped chose her out of the competition's 6,000-plus contestants; will we see her on his Spring 2010 runway?

>> Linda Evangelista Scores Fall 2009 Galliano Campaign —Linda Evangelista is suddenly everywhere: the August 2009 Vogue Italia cover, the upcoming issue of V magazine; she was photographed last week for W's November 2009 Art issue (and may be in the running for the cover?), and now she's appearing in John Galliano's Fall 2009 campaign. >> Amanda Laine Seems to Have Disappeared from Modeldom? —Just recently, 15 year old Norwegian Lea Groesland was named winner of V Magazine's V A Model Search contest — she's since completed one of her first shoots ever with Hasse Nielsen for the magazine. More pressing today, however, is the supposed "disappearance" of the original V A Model winner Amanda Laine, who helped pave the way for future winners to find industry success; she hasn't had much work pop up lately, and now she's been taken off both her agency Supreme's website and Models.com's Top 50 list. Donatella Versace Receives a Model Makeover in V#60
>> Donatella Versace's persona has been mimicked a number of times — most notably by Maya Rudolph on Saturday Night Live — but in the new issue of V#60, Sharif Hamza gives Donatella the model treatment. Valeria Dmitrienko pays tribute to the designer by donning long straight blonde locks, pouty lips, and of course, lots of Versace.
Iris Strubegger Gives V#60 "A Touch of Class"
>> Iris Strubegger is finding traction more traction than ever — Fall 2009 Givenchy and Valentino ads, an entire article in July 2009 Vogue dedicated to her cropped cut making her career. She told the magazine: "My hair makes me look more interesting, and it has given me more confidence." The confidence comes across in her new editorial in the upcoming July/August 2009 V#60, "A Touch of Class." The magazine isn't out until July 7, but a preview of the editorial, styled by Olivier Rizzo and photographed by Willy Vanderperre, shows Iris working the usual designer duds with a twist: a pair of fishnets worn on top. The V#60 cover features Cameron Diaz by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and inside are portraits by David Sims and a shoot with Lady Gaga.
So where is Iris's newfound confidence taking her next? She told Vogue she plans on spending her summer vacation camping in Croatia with Wolfgang, her boyfriend of seven years and a financier from her hometown in Austria.
Karl Lagerfeld Hates Swans, Borscht, and Cell Phones, But Likes Naomi Campbell's Boyfriend
>> May was a whirlwind month for Karl Lagerfeld. He staged a cruise show in Venice, spent some time filming a ballerina while talking swans — "They are the meanest animals in the world, you know. I had problems with them as a child. They hate children. I was caught by one, so I know" — and how dancers are favorable to actresses — "Elena [Glurdjidze], she made everyone here [at the tutu fitting] happy today. And you don't get that from actresses, when they come, hmm? Elena has charm. Others, not so much. Don't ask me names."
Then, he finished up the month in Moscow — visiting the city for his first time ever on Thursday — for a presentation of Chanel's Paris-Moscow collection which first debuted last December; the show marked the first time a Chanel collection has been located in Moscow since 1967.
It must have been a short trip — he didn't even have time to do sightseeing at the Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral, which were near his hotel. “Moscow is a city I knew quite well without coming here because I’m an informed person — there are so many books, novels, photos, that in a way I know it . . . I have a feeling I know exactly what is in every museum,” Karl quipped. He explained that he prefers imagining a place to visiting it: "You’re never disappointed by your imagination, but you can be very disappointed by reality.”
>> THE MODELIZER —She's a little Coco Rocha, a little Lily Donaldson, and now she's also the newest winner of the V Magazine/Supreme model search. All 16 year-old Canadian Addison Gill can hope for is to follow in the successful footsteps of previous winner Amanda Laine; Supposedly, she's already well on her way: According to Models.com, you can "Brace yourselves for a full fledged Addison moment coming very soon." >> IN THE LOOKING GLASS —The too-racy-for-Vogue Italia Steven Meisel spread that got picked up by V Magazine? It has Anna Selezneva, Daul Kim, Iris Strubegger, and Naty Chabanenko participating in a little crotch-grabbing, a little voyeurism — it's definitely NSFW and is generally more tame than expected, based on the preview — see for yourself.
