Anthropologie Reveals Next Collaborators

>> Hot off the heels of last month's highly successful Made in Kind debut, Anthropologie has announced that Tracy Reese will be among the latest batch of designers to be featured in the May installment of the online collaboration platform.

Available April 27, Reese's seven-piece capsule will be made up of bright lace and photo-printed dresses, all with the same girlie, vintage vibe the designer is known for. Inspired by the gardens of the Frida Kahlo museum, the collection will be priced around $248 to $348 - much like Reese's already-existing Frock and Plenty diffusion lines. Alongside Reese's collection, Made in Kind's May offering will also feature pieces from UK designer Charlotte Taylor, whose collection of op-art printed shifts and jumpsuits will be priced from $118 to $268, and Byron Lars, whose eight-piece capsule of folk-tinged dresses and tops - titled Beguile by Byron Lars - will be priced from $90 to $280.

Also on tap this time around are a range of pieces designed by a variety of India-based designers under the India Collections marquis, as well as new pieces from last month's partners Karen Walker, Place National, and John Patrick for O by Organic. Details on Google's New Fashion Initiative - Boutiques.com

>> After last week's rumor suggesting that Google is launching ecommerce on Wednesday, a few clarifying details have come up: the initiative Boutiques.com is actually a curation of virtual boutiques; visitors won't be able to purchase directly from Google but rather, will click through to a brand's online store or an online retailer like Saks, Net-a-Porter, or Barneys to purchase the item.

There are at least 19 designers, including Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Cynthia Rowley, Marchesa, Isaac Mizrahi, Tracy Reese, Prabal Gurung, and Erin Fetherston, who have been invited to set up virtual stores on the site. There will also be curated boutiques selling looks worn by celebrities and influencers like Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, and Michelle Obama. Sarah Jessica Parker has been asked to set up her own personalized shop, and a handful of high profile bloggers are also said to have been invited to curate their own boutiques in exchange for a low five-figure payment.

The idea is to have any user be able to do the same - create and share their own personalized boutique with items, brands, and looks they prefer. Elements of entertainment, gaming, and social media are also planned.

But Wu doesn't just have Obama to thank - he never actually interacted with the First Lady, but rather with Ikram Goldman, owner of Chicago boutique Ikram, and Obama's gatekeeper to the fashion industry.

In fact, none of the designers who have made clothes for the First Lady have had any direct contact with their White House client - all commissions, measurements, bills, and other directions have been mediated by Ikram, causing something of a controversy; the clothes that Obama has worn recently are predominantly from designers that Cathy Horyn points out, "Ikram sells and ultimately stands to benefit from" - Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo, Narciso Rodriguez, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, and Mario Cornejo.

Tracy Reese Loves Nana Keita in Purple

We never knew Tracy Reese was such a fan of Coutorture's casting and styling choices but we swear she is taking inspiration from our photo editorial "The Only Oscar We Care About. " We put the then relatively unknown Nana Keita of Red Models in a purple Oscar De La Renta sequined frock in March as part of our shoot. And then we caught Nana storming the runways this Spring 2009 season (she closed Erin Fetherston). But the most interesting look she worked? Tracey cast Nana in her show wearing a purple sequined frock.
