Celebrities Challenging Models' Hold at Monday Night's CFDA Awards

>> The models may be winning the ad campaign race for Fall — besides a couple of notable exceptions, Charlotte Gainsbourg for Balenciaga and Vanessa Paradis for Miu Miu — but celebrities are taking over at the CFDA Awards on Monday night.

The Womenswear Designer of the Year award will be presented by the trio of Victoria Beckham (representing nominee Marc Jacobs), Eva Mendes (for nominee Calvin Klein), and Maggie Gyllenhaal (fronting nominee Proenza Schouler). Meanwhile, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are announcing the Accessory Designer of the Year, and Mandy Moore is doing the Swarovski Award honors. Let's hope there still some models out there in the crowd for posterity . . .

See Which Fashion Magazine Covers Have Sold Best - and Worst - So Far in 2011

>> Vogue was the only American fashion magazine to show a newsstand sales increase in the first half of 2011, thanks to its March Lady Gaga cover. The pink-haired Gaga image drove sales up by more than 100,000 copies over the March 2010 Vogue issue, which featured Tina Fey on the cover; and overall, the magazine averaged 360,000 copies at the newsstand during the first half of this year, up 12.7 percent.

Harper's Bazaar, meanwhile - which was up 10 percent during the first half of last year when the rest of fashion magazines were down - dropped 14.3 percent to 137,117. “It would be a lot easier if we could feature proven sellers like Jennifer Aniston or Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover every month, but we took some risks this year and tried stars that were a little outside of the norm for us, and they didn’t always translate into newsstand sales,” editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey admitted. Among those departures: Julianna Margulies for January 2011, Kim Kardashian for March 2011, and Courteney Cox for April 2011.

W - which has never relied on newsstand sales - was down 11.8 percent to 19,006, and Elle was down 9 percent to 250,056. See the big four's best and worst-selling covers for the first half of 2011 in the slideshow.

>> March 2010 Cover Faces, Revealed -"Not usually one for rocking the boat with its cover choices," as WWD put it, Vogue is, nonetheless, taking a leap for their second biggest cover of the year in March by placing Tina Fey front and center. Other March 2010 cover curveballs abound: Harper's Bazaar went with Kate Moss by Peter Lindbergh - her first cover for the magazine since 2002 - and Glamour has hired Ellen von Unwerth for the first time ever to shoot Victoria Beckham. As for W (Megan Fox), Elle (Keira Knightley), and Teen Vogue (Mia Wasikoswka of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland), they're sticking to their usual bread and butter. [WWD]

Calvin Klein Pops Up on 30 Rock

>> The 30 Rock cameo that Calvin Klein filmed back in January - daughter Marci Klein is the show's producer - finally aired last night. He stops Tina Fey and Jon Hamm, who are walking down the street, and declares to Hamm, "I am Calvin Klein and I think you should be my next underwear model," as part of a series of strangers who are enthralled with Hamm's good looks.
