Quote Of The Day: On The New Louis Vuitton Campaign

Is that a little weird? [Antoine] Arnault says when he saw the bag, he thought “what a nice symbol and coincidence! We are representing these people who went closer to the sun than anybody.”
”"New Vuitton Ad Campaign: The Right Stuff?", The Wall Street Journal

Quote Of The Day: Women Over 35 Not Accounted For Online

“
Here lies a problem common to most of these otherwise forward-thinking fashion sites. After the initial fun is over, weather forecasts, friends' groups, and video can seem gimmicky, and when the sites present youthful styles like that pintucked T-shirt and tights to a grown woman headed to the office on Monday morning, they can seem downright disconnected.
”"The Forgotten Market Online: Older Women", The Wall Street Journal

Giorgio Armani on His Health and Possible Successors

</ br>
Giorgio Armani says his drive to stay healthy actually threatened his life, at one point sending him to the hospital for a 10-day stay.

Armani told <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303610504577418880643605706.html?mod=WSJMagazineFashion_LEFTStories#project%3DSLIDESHOW08%26s%3DSB10001424052702303610504577418932982580176%26articleTabs%3Darticle' target=" _blank"WSJ. Magazine that he had to be treated for "a very serious" case of hepatitis in May 2009. The cause was attributed to an unspecified collection of supplements the 78-year-old took before going to the gym every day. "My doctor told me: Get rid of all this sh*t you're drinking," he said.

While Armani wouldn't disclose exactly which substances he was taking, the Journal did suggest one possible motive for taking the supplements. "The house Armani has built is a reflection of himself - the trim, toned, tanned and t-shirted figure that is synonymous with the brand - and he wants to secure a long life for both."

Today, Armani is one of very few designers who owns 100 percent of his own company, where he serves as both creative director and CEO. His position as the man responsible for every aspect of the house's business begs the question as to who will run Armani when he's gone - and the designer says it will probably fall to his two nieces and his nephew. "Look, this succession issue has been at my throat for at least 15 years," he said. "The question is always the same, and so is the answer: as long as I'm here, I'm the boss."

Marc Jacobs on Louis Vuitton and Working For Bernard Arnault

</ br>
Marc Jacobs has had a very busy week: he presented Germany's Design For Tomorrow Award - which honors talented student designers - in Berlin and also took time to reflect on the worldwide presence of his brands in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Read on for his thoughts on Louis Vuitton, working for Bernard Arnault, and more.

On the difference between Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton: "For me, sexy is not about a tiny waist or a heaving bosom. I suppose Louis Vuitton is more overt as a brand than my collections for my own brand, Marc Jacobs. But when I say Marc Jacobs is not about sex I mean that from a fashion perspective, it's not based on vulgarity."

On working for Arnault: "I've said before that working for Mr. Arnault is like working for the farmer in the movie Babe. I mean, he's never going to jump up and down with exuberance, and the most he can say has often been the equivalent of 'That'll do pig.' But now he does praise me, which is great."

On his aesthetic: "Sometimes I think I'm very old-fashioned in my approach. Where fashion is concerned, I like to tell a story. I don't like anything to be obvious and I think there should always be an element of surprise about the way one dresses."

On moving into China: "When we built the train for my last show, I said to [LVMH CEO Bernard] Arnault, 'If we are going to take anything to China, then this is it.'"
Manolo Blahnik Won't Collaborate With J.Crew, Nowness Translates to Chinese, and Christian Louboutin's Cinderella Shoe

</ br>
>> Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.
</ br>

Turns out that much-rumored collaboration between Manolo Blahnik and J.Crew isn't going to happen - or at least not this Fall. "Although we were looking forward to the potential collaboration between our two brands, we both came to the conclusion that fall wasn't the right time," a rep for Manolo Blahnik said in an email. "We hope to do something together in the future." [Elle]
</ br>

Nowness, the online fashion and culture showcase owned by LVMH, debuted a Chinese version yesterday. In a statement, the site's editors said they made the move to capitalize "on China's significant position as a growing luxury market and the importance of digital and social media in the region." [The Wall Street Journal]
</ br>

Heidi Klum partnered with Babies "R" Us on a line of baby products called Truly Scrumptious. The line includes infant-sized clothing and accessories, but it also extends to furniture, home decor, and bedding for the under-5 set. [LilSugar]
</ br>

Christian Louboutin will collaborate with Disney when he creates a real-life version of Cinderella's famous glass slippers this Summer, commemorating the release of Cinderella on DVD this Fall. "I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world," Louboutin said. [The Huffington Post]
</ br>

Calvin Klein's on-and-off boyfriend Nick Gruber reportedly left his New York penthouse for a stint at an undisclosed rehabilitation clinic on Wednesday. Sources saw Gruber, who was <a href="http://www.fashionologie.com/Calvin-Kleins-Boyfriend-Nick-Gruber-Arrested-22812694" target[="_blank">arrested for cocaine possession earlier this week, leaving his apartment with a wheelie suitcase and overheard him talking about the trip.
Kanye West Fall 2012

>> On a runway hazy with dry-ice smoke, Kanye West presented the highly anticipated second collection for his eponymous line. Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, and Abbey Lee Kershaw all walked the show, while guests included Anna Wintour, Sean Combs, Alicia Keys, Kim Kardashian, Guiseppe Zanotti, Azzedine Alaia, Andre Leon Talley, and Common.
</ br>
The collection itself was darker and more focused than last season, with body-skimming silhouettes, black leather, sheer panels, and plenty of fur. Most of last season's fit issues seem to have been resolved.
</ br>
As for the general response? Overall, it's much better this time around, though the reviews are almost as diverse as the front-row crowd. Some highlights below:
</ br>
"Harder, better, faster, stronger." [High Snobeity]
</ br>
"Harder, faster, stronger, maybe just a little bit better." [On The Runway]
</ br>
"Like so much of West's music, this collection sampled material originally created by others: most notably Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci." [Telegraph UK]
</ br>
"So Givenchy-esque that it's embarrassing that Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci was an expected guest." [Wall Street Journal]
</ br>
"A better sophomore effort. Clothes mostly fit! But must every garment be made from a pelt?" [Robin Givahn]
</ br>
"A more thoughtful collection from a more humbled designer." [Styleite]
</ br>
"There were only 20 looks, so no one can accuse him of not editing well." [Fashionista]
</ br>
"Perfectly acceptable clothes." [Elle UK]

Dior Rumored to Be "Paralyzed" by New Designer Decision

>> Dior has been without a creative director for almost nine months now - since the end of February, when John Galliano was suspended and then ultimately fired. The brand has said it would "take all its time" deciding who should replace Galliano, and last week, it was reported to be looking at a new set of potential designers after talks with Marc Jacobs continue to falter. But Dana Thomas, a Paris-based fashion and luxury reporter for The Wall Street Journal, Tweets today: "I hear that the reason Dior isn't hiring anyone yet is because they don't know what to do - completely paralyzed. Imagine that." [@DanaThomasParis]
