Crowns and Collapses at the British Fashion Awards

>> The British Fashion Awards left an unnamed celebrity collapsed on the floor of the bathroom - maybe they were zapped of energy after celebrating Jourdan Dunn's Model of the Year win? Fashion types were out in droves on the Swarovski crystal-encrusted red carpet this evening: L'Wren Scott accompanied Stephen Jones, who celebrated his Outstanding Achievement by making himself a hat shaped like a crown, Red Carpet Designer of the Year nominee Giles Deacon brought muse Katie Grand clad in silver robopants and feathered neckpiece, Designer of the Year Luella Bartley enjoyed taking a break from the kids with partner David Sims, and Jourdan Dunn hung out in foyer looking shy.

Jourdan Dunn, Luella Bartley Win Big at British Fashion Awards

>> Tonight, The British Fashion Council hosted the British Fashion Awards - the British counterpart to the CFDA Awards. Jourdan Dunn stole Agyness Deyn's Model of the Year crown, and looking shocked, managed to accept the award between tears: "My mum would like me to say I'm going to buy her a mansion but she's just going to have to accept this speech instead!" As for Designer of the Year - an honor bestowed on John Galliano and Alexander McQueen four times each - Luella Bartley was the anointed one.

2010 British Fashion Award Nominees Announced, Including Victoria Beckham for Designer of the Year

>> Yesterday, the British Fashion Council gathered on the roof terrace of London's Soho House for cocktails and the 2010 British Fashion Award nominee announcements. Among those anointed: Lara Stone for model of the year, Celine's Phoebe Philo, in no surprise, for designer of the year, Lady Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti for fashion creator of the year, and Victoria Beckham for both designer and designer brand of the year. And speaking of Beckham, she's just joined Twitter and will be tweeting the lead-up to her New York Fashion Week presentation on Sept. 12, covering everything from model castings to thoughts on Fashion Week trends.

This year’s nominees were chosen by the British Fashion Council Press Committee, which includes chair Lucy Yeomans, editor of British Harper’s Bazaar, Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, and Sarah Mower, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Vogue.com contributor; the winners will be revealed on Dec. 7 at London’s Savoy Hotel.

Spills and Thrills at the 2009 British Fashion Awards

>> Last night's British Fashion Awards provided a forum for all kinds of announcements - Christopher Bailey, who accepted both BFC Designer Brand of the Year for Burberry and BFC Designer of the Year, confirmed that Burberry will show in London again for Fall 2010; and Victoria Beckham said she's planning to take an active role in the BFC that in which she would mentor young designers or serve as an ambassador.

Christopher Kane was awarded BFC British Collection of the Year, Kate Moss won the publicly-voted London 25 Award, Peter Pilotto nabbed the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-wear, and Georgia May Jagger took the BFC Model of the Year award - "Thank you so much to the BFC for picking me. I'd just like to say [fellow nominees] Daisy [Lowe] and Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] are amazing girls and amazing models. Thanks to my mum for being the biggest inspiration."

But the model who really stole the night was Karen Elson, who, when onstage to present Grace Coddington with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, walked straight into the orchestra pit and fell four feet out of sight. She emerged minutes later, ”I am the clumsiest person on this earth. I cannot believe I just did that. That is the worst fall I have ever had. I might have broken a rib, but I’m fine.” After presenting, she took to the emergency room to see about her injuries - including a sprained thumb.

Phoebe Philo, Lara Stone Take Top Prizes at 2010 British Fashion Awards

>> Phoebe Philo took this year's top prize - Designer of the Year - tonight at the British Fashion Awards over fellow nominees Erdem Moralioglu and Christopher Kane, while Lara Stone won the battle of the pretty faces, scoring Model of the Year over David Gandy and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Popular vote determined Alexa Chung winner of the British Style Award, recognizing "an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital.” And Sarah Burton - who designed two dresses for Special Recognition awardee Naomi Campbell (for a 25 year-long career) to choose from for the festivities - accepted the posthumously-awarded Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design prize for Lee Alexander McQueen, noting, "We will always miss him."

Lane Crawford's Sarah Rutson Not Taking Barneys Fashion Director Gig; British Fashion Awards to Honor Alexander McQueen

>> At last night's British Fashion Awards, Nick Knight debuted his short film tribute to Alexander McQueen, who was honored posthumously for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design. The film was hauntingly scored by Bjork, styled by Edward Enninful, and features solely black models in the best of McQueen's archives. "This film is my way of speaking about a very unique and important person who changed my life," Knight noted. Peter Pilotto Selected as Pitti W's 2012 Guest Designer

Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos will head to Florence this Summer to show their work at the 10th edition of the trade show Pitti W.

Lapo Cianchi, chairman of the influential seasonal Pitti trade shows, said his team invited the design duo because they "were looking for a modern approach to feminine elegance that is constant, profound and has the ability to think about itself. We saw this in the evolution of their collections, a knowledgeable process that develops around surprising colors, body-conscious draping and light sculpting. It was also interesting to see how the designers' two distinct spirits come together and reinterpret fashion's classic elements."

Pilotto and De Vos met as students at Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts and started Peter Pilotto together in 2008. In 2009, the two won the British Fashion Council's Emerging Talent Award, and since then its collections have gotten favorable reviews. In the past, Pitti W has selected Diane von Furstenberg, Gareth Pugh, Haider Ackermann, and Proenza Schouler as guest designers.

Pitti W runs in conjunction with its menswear counterpart Pitti Uomo from June 19 to 22.

Meet Lulu Kennedy, the New Editor at Large of Love Magazine

>> If the name Lulu Kennedy doesn't sound familiar now, it will soon - she's just been named editor at large of the hugely influential fashion quarterly Love magazine.

Kennedy will be in charge of a new front-of-book section featuring portraits by Solve Sundsbo and interviews by Love editors Alex Fury and Isaac Lock. Katie Grand, Love's editor in chief, said she chose Kennedy because she's "always been hugely impressed with [Kennedy's] ability to discover the brightest new talents, and by her commitment to nurturing young designers as they navigate their way into the fashion industry."

Kennedy does just that for a living: She's the founder of the Fashion East initiative, the UK predecessor of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Since 2000, Kennedy and Fashion East have been finding talented young British designers and helping them find the resources to grow their brands. Kennedy is credited with starting the careers of Henry Holland, Roksanda Ilincic, and Gareth Pugh, among others.

But Kennedy doesn't just help new designers get a foothold in the industry - she also helps them make money by selling their wares. In 2010, she started Lulu & Co, a label that takes exemplary work from Fashion East designers and puts it directly in front of shoppers' eyes.

When Queen Elizabeth II awarded her contributions to the industry with an MBE last month, Kennedy wore a chic combination of Michael van der Ham, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Roksanda Ilincic, and Christian Louboutin. Take a look at her eclectic personal style in the gallery.
