>> A palette just right for Valentine's Day dominated Thakoon Panichgul's Fall 2012 collection. In red, fuchsia, crimson, and purple, these were vibrant, punchy clothes in streamlined, easy silhouettes. However, Thakoon is known for his whimsy - and there was also plenty of that here. Shifts, full skirts, boat-neck tops, and coats were full of surprising details: paperbag waists, ruffled ruching, and lacquered fabrics, as well as leopard-print inserts and key-hole cutouts. "I was feeling something a bit more romantic," the designer explained of the collection.

>> Thakoon's nude and pastel-filled Pre-Fall 2012 collection is a window into where he might be going for Fall 2012, he explains, calling the offering "a starting point for fall. We have such a short amount of time between the two collections that we work on them concurrently." Panichgul riffed on classic knits, turning out a cableknit dress and giving a mélange knit coat fuzzy Mongolian lamb pockets.

>> Beginning with the Resort 2012 season, Thakoon Panichgul is really blowing out his Thakoon Addition diffusion line. Which means: For starters, showing it separately than mainline Thakoon; and secondly, lowering the price point to the upper end of the contemporary market (Panichgul says he plans to continue filling out the collection with lower-priced items.). With the easy cuts and colorful prints, this new iteration of Addition could very well give Marc by Marc a run for its money.

>> Avoiding the so-far pervasive surf trend, Thakoon Panichgul instead went “a little bit gypsy, but taking it to the street” for his Resort 2012 collection. And by that he means, he explained: "I didn't want to do a literal gypsy. I wanted to do something that was a bit sportier, a bit more New York." Thus, folky detailing popped up on pieceworked dresses in mixed cottons, eyelet patchworks, peasant blouses, and in a red-and-white pattern based on traditional Croatian embroidery.

2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Winners Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, and Eddie Borgo Come Home with Newly-Increased Cash Prizes

>> Last night, the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners were announced, but before they could be named during the dinner gala at New York's Skylight Studios, the results were leaked on WWD's Twitter: Billy Reid won outright, and Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo were both named runners-up.

Style.com's Nicole Phelps wrote that the results were a bit of a surprise: "Many in the audience had pegged Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra as the front-runners." But nevermind: the prizes were even bigger this year, with Reid granted $300,000 (up from $200,000), and Borgo and Gurung each taking $100,000 (up from $50,000). "The main prize is the mentoring we provide," CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg noted of the increase, "but a little cash never hurts."

The rest of this year's finalists - Christian Cota, Robert Geller, Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow of Loden Dager, Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewelry, Moss Lipow and Gregory Parkinson - were treated to a keynote speech by Karl Lagerfeld, who talked about how much fun Yves Saint Laurent was "before Pierre Berge" and advised: "Young goes. But good? If you're good, it may all last."

1. Karl Lagerfeld Will Be In Town

He's hosting a Chanel dinner the night before Fashion's Night Out, and accepting a Fashion Visionary Award (from the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology) at a luncheon the day of, so he's definitely in New York for the occasion. Word is he'll be at Chanel's Soho store - where they're also offering complimentary manicures and selling the forthcoming Les Khakis de Chanel nail polish collection for one night. Alternatively, the 57th Street Chanel boutique is offering visitors the option to color-customize their very own pair of iconic Chanel ballet flats.

>> Diego Della Valle Has a Mystery Marquee Collaborator for Hogan Up His Sleeve -Diego Della Valle appointed Thakoon Panichgul two years ago to help oversee a newly-launched Hogan apparel collection, but the collaboration ended last season. Now, Della Valle says his goal is to have Hogan clothing sales equal accessories sales within the next few years, and he's teasing an upcoming collaboration with a "marquee" name. But who? Thakoon Fall 2010: Feral and Furry

>> It wouldn't be Fashion Week if everyone wasn't flying by the seat of their pants. Imogen Morris-Clarke, who walked Thakoon yesterday, Tweeted post-show: "Hanne [Gaby Odiele] was in [her] own clothes as the show began!!! manic."

The pre-show panic wasn't felt in the show's audience, however, where Andre Leon Talley was wearing a sweater with big fuzzy dollar sign on the back paired with a furry scarf and Grace Coddington took her time chatting with fellow front rowers before taking her seat. As the lights went down, the music took on the pervasive pounding of a heartbeat, and the models emerged from a cavernous opening, framed by two oversized shapes which curled over their heads and softly glowed. They stopped in their tracks to pose in front of the photographers before carrying on down the runway.

Panichgul says the collection, with its fur-lined hoods, handkerchief hems, shearling boots, and pom pom fringe, was inspired by the image of a half-shaven sheep. "It captured everything that I wanted in my collection,” he explained. “It was raw, primitive and soft all at once.” The perfect embodiment of the inspiration: a tiger-print dress, the bottom half all tiger-striped fur.
