Rachel Comey Looks to Mickey Rourke for Her Fall 2011 Inspiration

>> Rachel Comey's Fall 2011 collection didn't have any specific inspiration - "I was thinking of a woman who tries a little bit with her look, but it comes off in this nice, spontaneous light," she explained backstage, post-show. Unless you count Mickey Rourke, who Comey called out: "He's where I kind of uncovered that idea, I think. I was like, what makes him so charming? Because he's trying really hard, but it's in this way you appreciate."

Comey's Rourkian charmers came out in artfully mussed hair, shrunken sweaters, and cropped pants in bold zig zag or crosshatch patterns, finished with a slight flare at the hem. She even dabbled in an all-corduroy look: a blazer in cinnamon complemented by a full red skirt to match. The pants with pleats flaring at the ankle may be a hard sell, but the same can't be said for the footwear. For followers of Comey's cult of shoes (it seemed as though every blogger in town was front row - Susie Bubble, Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely, Julia Frakes, Hanneli Mustaparta, Bryanboy in an Afro wig . . .), there were zig zag heeled oxfords, green suede wedges, and even some pumps to choose from. And where was Comey headed, post-show? To relax with her son Bruno, born two months ago.

Facehunter, Fashion Toast, and BunnyBisous Bloggers Convert Posts Into Further Industry Opportunities

>> Streetstyle photographers Garance Dore, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist, and Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil have all turned their blogs into further industry opportunities - Garance now shoots editorials for the likes of Glamour Italy and guest blogs for Vogue.fr, Scott has photographed two seasons worth of DKNY Jeans campaigns and has a compilation book coming out in September, and Tommy did the Spring 2009 Lane Crawford campaign. And style blogger Susanna Lau's time on Style Bubble allowed her to transition from digital media planner at an ad agency to commissing editor of Dazed & Confused's DazedDigital.com.

In the past week or so, a handful of other fashion bloggers have seen their blog time become currency for further opportunities: Yvan Rodic of Facehunter just announced a compilation book of his streetstyle photography is coming out in early 2010. Julia Frakes of BunnyBisous and Paper's Fashion Schmasion is doing some lookbook time - first in Rachel Antonoff's Fall 2009 set and yesterday, she apparently shot the Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony lookbook, complete with '90s hair; the last round of which Chloe starred in herself. And finally, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast just signed with Next, is appearing in RVCA's campaign, and has further upcoming editorials and styling work already in the pipeline.

What kind of street style inspires you?

I'm always a sucker for prints and colors but it's hard to do in the Winter because it's freezing.

Tell us about one of the wildest looks you've seen at NYFW.

Susie Bubble, my BFF, was wearing this electric blue turban and a pair of vintage Ralph Lauren sequin floral pants. It has white sequins with red, blue, and orange flowers on it. It was pretty ridiculous; we walked into an Indian restaurant for dinner and then everyone turned their heads and stared at her. I thought it was amazing - one of my favorite Susie Bubble looks.

What are your Fashion Week essentials?

Uniqlo HeatTech long johns and t-shirts. They cost about $15 and keep me warm all through Winter.

What are your Fashion Week indulgences?

Marea on Central Park South has a $40 prix fixe lunch. It's my Fashion Week splurge: I go there and get a delicious uni and crab spaghetti between shows, then come back to take more photos.

How do you stay sane during this time?

I don't go out anymore because I have to wake up early and I'm the kind of person that requires eight hours of sleep. I know it's not fun and I'm a party pooper. Other than that, I try to stay hydrated with coconut water and use Kiehl's lip balm.

Any post-Fashion Week plans?

After March 10, I plan on sleeping for a week and playing video games. I'm going to get a Wii and play Super Mario Galaxy.

Luckily for us, Susie Bubble has got our back: She attended a preview showing of the Topshop Fall 2008 line yesterday. From the pictures she brought back, the pieces on show look pretty hit or miss (Spring 2008 Miu Miu harlequin prints and cheap interpretation of YSL Spring 2008 star accessories: miss; chunky knit cardi and Fall 2008 YSL-inspired platforms booties: hit). But you can't win 'em all, right?

>> Forget it bags -- this spring/summer seems to be the season of it dresses. First the 3.1 Phillip Lim rosette dress elicited some major gushing (and buying), and now the yellow tiered Zara dress has sent shoppers into a tizzy. Now there are some pros and cons in order for this daffodil dress -- pro: it's much less expensive than the Phillip Lim dress, pro: it's bright and summery; con: yellow doesn't necessarily flatter every skin tone, BIG CON: it's not sold on the internet. So, either you can hoof it to your neighborhood Zara and check out the dress in person (the rest of the summer collection looks great, but admittedly this dress is the standout piece), or you can click over to Style Bubble to live vicariously through Susie, who just purchased the yellow confection.

I thought you all might be interested in what she had to say about them since we were trying to figure out how they stay up by themselves a while back. (They come in black and gray, £55.)

They are actually tight but also very very long so you get the ruched/bunched up effect.
When I studied the Prada catwalk pics, I realised that they weren't actually all that loose on the models either but just bunched up because of the length. The size of the socks corresponds to your feet size as opposed to the size of your calves/thighs.

They feel very nice against your legs.
