>> And suddenly, it begins. Steven Alan kicks off the Fall 2012 season with a collection of '30s- and '40s-tinged separates in tonal grays, textural wools, and - of course - lots of prints and stripes. Alan also tapped inspiration from Mexican painter Diego Rivera, and so a nice dose of folk was worked into the collection's classic prepster mix: wooden buttons, blanket wools, leather riding belts, and perky little felt fedoras.

Steven Alan Highlights Cool Prints and Colors On Preppy Silhouettes For Fall 2011

>> Steven Alan showed a cozy layered collection for Fall 2011, and it couldn’t come at a more welcome time for the attendees hustling in from 17 mph winds outside the Chelsea Pier 59 Studios earlier this morning. Alan's display of oversized blazer coats, crewneck sweaters, shift dresses, and trousers gave an old-school collegiate feel reminiscent of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Wine, blue, oatmeal, navy, and hunter green made up the color palette, while classic dot prints and demure floral prints added texture to the collection. The standout print, a bold multi-colored horizontal stripe pattern, made its way onto wool shift dresses, skirts, and a coat. And show stylist Sarah Foldenauer finished off the preppy cool looks with crushable floppy fedoras, covetable ribbed tights, diminutive cross-body bags, and wedge booties.

CFDA Inducts 26 New Members for 2010, Including L'Wren Scott and Sophie Theallet

>> Wednesday evening, Vera Wang moved almost all of the furniture out of her vast Park Avenue apartment to toast this year's 26 new CFDA inductees. “It may not be as big as Donna Karan’s loft, but I can fit you all in,” Wang said of her duplex, which she estimated was hosting 300 guests. Tommy Hilfiger and wife Dee Ocleppo were impressed, however - The Cut caught them exclaiming: “It's amazing. The kitchen is sick. Our kitchen is like, a tenth of that size. That's like a restaurant kitchen.”

Pregnant Rachel Comey Kicks Off The Season of the White Dress with Her Spring 2011 Collection

>> Spring 2011 may be the Spring of the white dress, judging by the shows so far. Within the first six looks at Rachel Comey, two airy white numbers - one with a built-in vest, the other a bustier and a handkerchief hem - kicked the trend off right.

Comey, who's expecting her first child in January, treated her audience - which included Steven Alan and Cathy Horyn - to a little Eastern-inspired live music (via an electric violin) and a parade of square-heeled shoes that are sure to abet the cult following that Comey's heels have already garnered. Comey's stylist Avena Gallagher explained of the Spring 2011 collection: "She's done the quirky girl thing, but this season's a bit more grown up." The look was Horyn-approved - after the show, she Tweeted: "Loved Rachel Comey's layered, pared down sundresses in prints that seemed to mix Americana and Chinese. Also the hankie hems, crisp whites."

A.P.C. Joins The Club, Does Liberty Prints

French contemporary brand, A.P.C. just launched a small collection of liberty prints thanks to a partnership with Liberty Fabrics. Retro florals and paisleys are not exactly new terrain for the brand, nor are the silhouettes used in the mini-collection: a floral smock dress, a knee-length skirt, a carry-all tote bag. We're sure plenty of overheated fashionistas will find these pieces just the trick for getting through the hot summer months. It seems like minded brand, Steven Alan, happens to agree. They've launched a series of liberty print summer items as well. Their collection includes a similar range of items, however, we happen to think the fashion world is big enough for both of them.

WWD reports this morning on the New York Fashion Week off-site schedule. Some key announcements to note, Alexander Wang will show at Roseland Ballroom (seats 1,500 guests) and Marc Jacobs will show at the Lexington Avenue Armory (no bribes necessary).

Valentino's menswear designer Ferruccio Pozzani will leave the house after the presentation of his Fall 2009 collection in Milan. That leaves both menswear and womenswear at Valentino open for new creative direction in 2009.

Rumors of Steven Alan and Opening Ceremony Uniqlo collaborations surfaced yesterday. Racked reports this morning that the official word will be dropped at the end of the month.

CEO of Wal-Mart, H. Lee Scott, spoke about consumer spending habits at the National Retail Federation's 98th Convention. Scott tackles sustainability, among other weighted topics.
