>> The Spring 2010 Prada show is starting shortly, and already details are rolling in. The set evokes black-and-white film stills, and the show is apparently all about the beach, with silk palm tree and beach scene-printed mini shorts and jackets, clear jeweled jelly shoes and dresses, and low side ponytails and glossy red lips.

Donatella Versace Relaunching Versus Ready-to-Wear In Time for Milan Fashion Week

>> Versus, the young Versace line originally launched in 1989 and designed by Donatella Versace under her brother Gianni's supervision before it was discontinued in 2005, is being revived - no surprises here, considering that Donatella said in March of the line: "It was the first collection that my brother Gianni let me work on, on my own, so it's very precious to me."

She asked Christopher Kane to produce a capsule collection of crystal-studded Versus shoes and bags, which was rolled out in February, and for Spring 2010, the brand is on track for a full-fledged "dynamic presentation" of Versus ready-to-wear during Milan Fashion Week, according to a spokeswoman.

The line, which targets "Young Hollywood," or women between 20 and 30, is currently being sold in the new Versus showroom in Milan. “It’s very rock ’n’ roll and sexy,” Donatella Versace told WWD. “The collection reflects Versus’ DNA and is aimed at young people who want to dress with their own style but like to evolve and break new ground.”

Victoria's Secret's Newest Angel, Fashion Week Scheduling Resolved, & Fashion Pollution in China

Toni Garrn has just been anointed as Victoria's Secret's newest Angel. Garrn's first official assignment was appearing in the new ads for the Dream Angels underwear collection alongside veterans Erin Heatherton and Lindsay Ellingson, but she's walked the Victoria's Secret fashion show runway in the past. While we don't know much about her yet, she has admitted she has an addiction problem - "Sweets are really my problem," she laughed. "I could just eat sweets all day, ice cream and chocolate." Fashion Week organizers in New York and London have set show dates through September 2014 in the hopes of resolving the scheduling disagreement among the four major fashion capitals. The plan allows New York, London, Milan, and Paris to "successfully plan for the long term" - or at least it will if Paris and Milan cooperate with the new dates. [The Cut]
What was the best fashion film of this season? Victoria by Victoria Beckham, Prada, Lanvin, and Edun, among others, all made inventive and imaginative films to advertise their Spring wares. [Business of Fashion]
Liya Kebede dyed her hair red for the May cover of Harper's Bazaar Spain - or at least she put on a red wig. The model donned head-to-toe Gucci for the cover, which also promises stories about Elsa Schiaparelli and Oscar-nominated actress Berenice Bejo. [Styleite]
An environmental group in Beijing released a report blaming China's manufacturing industry for some "2.5 billion metric tons of sewage in 2010," which makes it the third biggest polluter of water in the country. The report names Burberry, Levi's, Guess, Zara, and Ralph Lauren as companies who have hired "textile companies that violate [China's] environmental laws." [Refinery29]

London Fashion Week Hires Kelly Cutrone to Bring Editors, Buyers, and Bravo TV Cameras

>> After almost being edged out by New York and Milan Fashion Weeks last season, the British Fashion Council has launched a major push to bring London Fashion Week back on solid ground. Already, in conjunction with the event's 25th anniversary, Burberry, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Jonathan Saunders, Clements Ribeiro, and Jasmine de Milo - with Amanda Wakeley and Jeremy Scott, who's never shown in London, as the latest converts - have pledged to show in London for the Spring 2010 season in September.

Now, the British Fashion Council has announced it hired Kelly Cutrone's US-based PR company, People's Revolution, to promote London Fashion Week and British designers stateside. The goal is to drive buyer and editor traffic, according to BFC joint chief executive Caroline Rush: “The appointment of People’s Revolution aims to increase awareness and exposure of British designers amongst US media and buyers with the goal of supporting the growth of designer businesses and increasing the attendance of these audiences at London Fashion Week.”

And there's always the added advantage of TV visibility - cameras for Kelly's upcoming Bravo show, Kell on Earth, will be shooting all through London Fashion Week.

Mariacarla Boscono Had a Hand in Riccardo Tisci's Appointment at Givenchy

>> Riccardo Tisci and his friend and muse, Mariacarla Boscono, appear on one of i-D's three fresh-from-the-press Pre-Spring 2010 covers; the others feature Natasha Poly and Rihanna.

Tisci and Boscono go way back. When Tisci was first starting out, pre-Givenchy, he lost backing weeks before a show; devastated, he ended up going to a friend's embroidery factory in New Delhi. When he returned to Milan in the Fall of 2004, two weeks before Fashion Week, it was Mariacarla who, impressed with the three bags full of hand-embroidered clothes Tisci brought back, pestered him into pulling together a show, he tells the new issue of LOVE. They cobbled together an off-schedule and technivally illegal production in an old garage, with Karen Elson in a tulle evening gown doing stunts on a BMX. Police shut the show down, but right after he presented a follow-up collection, he got the call from Givenchy.

Burberry Returning to Londontown for Spring 2010 Runway Show

>> New York City Mayor Bloomberg has declared Thursday "Burberry Day" to coincide with the official lighting of the brand's logo atop its new US headquarters. Christopher Bailey exclaimed of the event: “It’s going to be part of the Manhattan skyline - you’re going to be able to see it from all the boroughs!”

Bailey's on the first flight out of London to JFK airport tomorrow to celebrate, but he just made his own announcement worthy of celebration: he's bringing the Spring 2010 Burberry Prorsum show back to London Fashion Week in September. The brand has shown in Milan for the past eight years, but Bailey decided it "feels right" to close London Fashion Week with “a big, sophisticated show.”

The return marks the 25th anniversary of both London Fashion Week and its organising body, the British Fashion Council, and Bailey will host “a large after-party for many attendees who haven’t been seen in town for several seasons” following the show to celebrate the anniverseries.

The move is only for one season so far, but Christopher Kane hopes it might be the beginning of a trend: “It’s really good for all of us. The injection of attention again is great. Hopefully, they’ll come, and then come back again.”

>> Yves Saint Laurent Has Another Manifesto in the Bag -In what is quickly becoming Fashion Week tradition, Yves Saint Laurent has a new edition of its Manifesto, this time housed in a strawberry-printed tote - the fruit motif appeared all over Stefano Pilati's Spring 2010 collection for the label. On February 16, over half a million copies of the Manifesto (which includes images of brand face Natalia Vodianova captured by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin) will be distributed in Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and, for the first time, Berlin - with the first 2,000 passersby receiving the tote as well.

CFDA Leaves London Fashion Week in the Dust

>> This is a snub, if I ever heard of one. For the Fall 2009 season, the CFDA has announced that New York Fashion Week will run from February 13-20, rather than February 6-13, as it has in the past. The reason for the switch? The designers don't want to have to show on Labor Day, September 1, for the Spring 2010 season, and they want the reorganizing to start ASAP.

But herein lies the problem: With the February date change, New York Fashion Week will still be going on when London Fashion Week was scheduled to take place. The British Fashion Council's chairman, Harold Tillman, flew to New York last week to talk with CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg about the issue, but as it lays right now, London Fashion Week only has four full days to show - February 21-24 - before Milan Fashion Week starts, not to mention little-to-no travel time for editors, buyers, and the like to be transported between the places. Drama, drama.

Fashion Fund 2009 Kicks Off with "Donatella Delight"

>> One of Valentino Garavani's favorite models, Natalia Vodianova, missed the big premiere of his documentary; she was in London for the launch of the 2009 Fashion Fringe search for emerging British design talent - the UK's version of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award - instead. In celebration of this year's honorary chairperson, Donatella Versace, who flew in from Milan for the event, guests like Claudia Schiffer, Roland Mouret, Jonathan Saunders, and Jacquetta Wheeler were served "Donatella Delight" cocktails. Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet is also on the judging panel this year, as is Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, who is overseeing the introduction of Fashion Fringe's first accessories prize. The four as yet unnamed finalists will show capsule collections during Spring 2010 London Fashion Week, and the winner - who in the past has been Basso & Brooke and Erdem - receive upwards of £100,000 for a follow-up show.
