Marc Jacobs' spring 2009 collection presented a mash-up of of American themes-from the New Frontier to Nineties grunge-all paired with piled on accessories and armfuls of bangles. Trend de la Creme is a Coutorture Network Partner and our resident comparison contributor--her ability to match runway images and natural phenomena is truly remarkable. This week marks her first foray into the Spring 2009 collections and it's an intense start for sure. Erin Fetherston (before she moved onto a more structured silhouette) showed a Spring 2009 collection with a number of billowing frocks. Trend de la Creme noticed a comparison immediately--between those frocks and the mushroom clouds produced by nuclear bombs. Probably not what Fetherston had in mind but there's no denying the resemblance.

Spring 2009 Atelier Versace: Red Carpet Ruffles and Whorls

>> Chanel and Dior may go full-out with couture presentations, but Donatella Versace prefers to do private appointments in January for Atelier Versace. A gown from her pleat-centric Fall 2008 collection made it to the Oscars on Marisa Tomei last weekend, and now that that's over, it's time for the big reveal: Spring 2009. The collection, modeled by Georgina Stojiljkovic, who seems to be Donatella's favorite couture model, focuses on ruffled red carpet-ready gowns, with a couple of whorled cut-out confections thrown in for good measure. Rebecca Minkoff Debuts Spring Handbag Range At Henri Bendel

Because there's always time to shop during Fashion Week--Rebecca Minkoff's Spring 2009 handbag range will debut at Henri Bendel with its own in-store pop-up shop later this week. Minkoff will be there to sign handbags (lining bound, of course) and talk to clients about the new collection. Having seen her Spring 09 collection up close at the Intermezzo trade show earlier this year, we can say it will be more than worth the trip. Minkoff's faux-croc laptop cases, studded envelope clutches, and classic morning-after bags are certainly looking fresh, colorful, and investment-worthy this season.

As caught up as we might be with the Fall 2009 season, we can't help but notice all of the best Spring 2009 pieces appearing online. Particularly noticeable are the bad girl frocks that appeared on the Spring catwalks by way of transparency, cut-out details, and body-con silhouettes. Judging by the House of Holland number M.I.A. wore to the Grammy's this weekend, and the $12,000 dollar white Balmain frock which is already sold out on Net-a-Porter--we're pretty sure we're not alone in our love for this trend.

Spring 2009 Topshop Unique Collection Has Started To Hit Shelves

The Spring 2009 Topshop Unique collection, which showed during London Fashion Week, is beginning to hit shelves. This morning about a dozen items from the collection were released on the retailer's website. The collection is essentially a round up this season's trends with, of course, jumpsuits, studded jackets, and crop tops taking top billing. Deliveries should continue to trickle in but one thing is for sure, these pieces won't stick around for long. Our favorite item so far? A very Givenchy Spring 09-looking studded bodysuit. What will actually make it into our shopping cart? Harem trousers.

Azzedine Alaia's Spring 2009 Wonderland

>> There are few designers these days that can succeed without hopping onto the fashion train in some way - even Margiela sold a majority stake to Diesel - but Azzedine Alaia has done just that. After all these years, he still remains a mystery - he has no website, and as The Imagist points out - "no seasonal shows, no advertising, no freestanding boutique network, very little retail outlets, and product that is about its own consistent identity, not the whims of a fashion moment." Seeing his Spring 2009 lookbook, shot by Willy Vanderperre with Kasia Struss, seems like such a treat - mostly because of his elusiveness, but also because the black velvet gown he dressed Penelope Cruz in for the SAG Awards last weekend really whets the appetite.
