Natasha Poly for Jil Sander Spring 2009: High Contrast
February 10, 2009 4:30 pm
>> The longtime Jil Sander campaign team of photographer Willy Vanderperre and stylist Olivier Rizzo have done it again — this time with Natasha Poly going solo. The Spring 2009 campaign captures the essence of the brand — all minimalism, all the time — with its stark, high contrast take on black and white and shadows. It's quite the departure from their more commercial image turn for the Fall 2008 season, and highlights all the best parts of the Spring 2009 collection — the shape of the shoe, the silhouette of the fringe, the slice of the earring.
Toni Garrn, Anna Maria Jagodzinska Top Spring 2009 Ad Campaign Bills
January 21, 2009 1:13 pm
>> Spring 2009 campaigns may be overrun with supermodels, but two younger, less-established models are giving them a run for their campaign money: Toni Garrn and Anna Maria Jagodzinska.

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Now seems to be the time to get into the ad game for young labels — Rodarte started up with a single ad in Fall 2008 and repeated for Spring 2009, Zac Posen recently released his own one-off ad for Spring 2009, and now Derek Lam is hopping on the idea train for Fall 2009.

Jerry Hall for Chanel, Sasha Pivovarova too?
December 8, 2008 5:03 pm
>> There's still no word on who is doing the honors for Chanel's mainline Spring 2009 ad campaign that was shot at Karl Lagerfeld's house in Vermont, but some peripheral roles have been handed out. Jerry Hall will take over Chanel handbag duties from Christy Turlington in a new campaign inspired by Colette's Cheri, the novel exploring the affair between a woman and a much younger man, which is coincidentially also an upcoming film by The Queen's Stephen Frears. And those who are hoping Sasha Pivovarova will nab the Chanel Spring 2009 campaign, there's still hope. She's definitely still a Karl favorite — he shot the Pre-Fall Paris-Moscow collection on her in Paris a couple of weeks ago — lookbook or campaign, it's undetermined — and then she wore Chanel couture to the Vogue China Icons ceremony in Beijing on Saturday (above).*image: source
Natalia Vodianova Bags Nina Ricci Spring 2009, Takes the Label Commercial
February 2, 2009 12:31 pm
>> Olivier Theyskens or not, Nina Ricci's Spring 2009 ad campaign proves management is serious about taking the label more commercial. In the past, the label's campaigns have been much more forward-thinking — Natasha Poly rocking out in sea spray for Fall 2008, Karlie Kloss and Courtney Smerski going abstract for Spring 2008 — but judging about this first image, Spring 2009 is all about that newly-expanded accessories collection. How else are we supposed to interpret Lachlan Bailey's studio shots of Natalia Vodianova, N and R charms plainly in view?

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Spring 2009 campaigns are all about going with the straightforward, traditional house image, and David Sims's interpretation of Balenciaga in all its robo-avant garde glory is no exception.
Lowe Coming Up Daisies with Spring 2009 ads
November 11, 2008 5:23 pm
>> Daisy Lowe was recently hailed as a model who could bring the death of size zero, and designers seem to be falling into place — either that, or they're latching onto her it-girl status, and her curvier-than-the normal-model shape has nothing to do with it.Not only has Marc Jacobs tapped her to be the face of his Spring 2009 Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign — "I think she looks adorable" — but now word is floating around that she has a DKNY campaign in the pipeline, shot by Scott "The Sartorialist" Schuman. No word on how this falls into place with another it-girl's DKNY campaign — Daisy could have DKNY and Harley Viera-Newton DKNY Jeans, vice versa, or they could be in one of the campaigns together.

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —For the Spring 2009 season, Ryan McGinley did a little ad work — both in front of and behind the camera. He took Angela Lindvall and Kate Moss down to Puerto Rico to produce Stella McCartney's watercolor-infused campaign, and then posed for Marc Jacobs lensmen Juergen Teller in a bathtub, shoe propped on his knee, as the label's Spring 2009 face (click through for image).
Burberry's Spring 2009 Garden Full of Money Trees
December 10, 2008 1:31 pm
>> You know Burberry is worried when their Spring 2009 campaign comes out looking like a catalogue. Mario Testino did the honors at Petersham Nurseries outside London, and Christopher Bailey carried on his all-British cast tradition with returner Lily Donaldson and newcomers Eden Clarke and Alexina Graham, but gone are the days of Fall 2008's moody black-and-white ads and Spring 2008's edgy, colorful group shots. These new Spring 2009 ads seem aimed much more for the mainstream, with their prominent placement of denim, the top-selling trenches, and the new, trademark plaid-covered Gardener Bag. Everyone's going for the money shot this season — and with Burberry, those intentions are quite transparent.*image: source View Slideshow ›
