>> Roberto Cavalli Spring 2010 Ad Cast Revealed; Daisy Lowe for Louis Vuitton? — Spring 2010 campaign cast details continue to flood in. Isabeli Fontana Tweeted this morning, "Exciting news! I shot the new Cavalli campaign with Carolyn Murphy. The campaign was shot by Steven Meisel." And causing a little campaign confusion: WWD heard Lara Stone is the new face of Louis Vuitton, but now word is Daisy Lowe is shooting in Miami for the brand next week. Donatella: I Handled Versace While Under Influence of Cocaine, Will Weather Economy, Too
>> Versace is definitely feeling the economic crunch, completely pulling out of Japan, where it's had a presence since 1981, and announcing impending layoffs of over a quarter of its current workforce. But Donatella Versace aims to keep up appearances — she sponsored the Whitney Museum Art Gala in New York two weeks ago, jetted off days later to Rio de Janeiro for a Fashion Rocks event, and has just named Georgia May Jagger, Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger's 17-year-old daughter, the face of her Spring 2010 campaign, as photographed by Mario Testino. She also refuses to take off her stilettos, except for at the gym.
The New York Times's Eric Wilson caught up with her when she was in New York, staying under the name "Mrs. Montez" in a suite at the Waldorf Towers. When she first took over Versace, she says, “it was not easy to believe in myself or the future. Everyone was looking at me like a savior, and I had to have this image of this powerful strong woman, which I am not.”
>> Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana Campaigns Under Way —Last week, Gucci wrapped its Spring 2010 ad campaign shoot in Miami, with Emmanuelle Alt styling once again, and this week, it sounds like Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana are taking care of business. Mary Alice Stephenson Tweets that Vuitton is shooting today in New York — Lara Stone has reportedly replaced Madonna for the brand, with Steven Meisel on photo duty — while Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce left for New York earlier today for their ad campaign shoot — funnily enough, Madonna is said to be on Dolce & Gabbana menswear duty this upcoming season. Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Talks the Spring 2010 Campaign, Runway Casting, and a New Secret Project
>> Riccardo Tisci, fresh off a stint in Rio de Janeiro over the weekend to support Oi Fashion Rocks with a combination men's, women's, and couture fashion show, arrived fashionably late by half an hour yesterday for a guerrilla appearance at Barneys in New York — his first for a trunk show, which was only announced the afternoon before. Endearingly adorable in sneakers and with braces, the designer was on hand to see the launch of his new lower-priced (by forty percent) Capsule collection, which focuses on his iconic white shirts and studded pieces, with a few exclusives for Barneys on tap. We were able to steal a couple of minutes of his time:
You were just in Rio, how was that?
I just got in [to New York] this morning, so I'm a little tired but happy.
You dressed Ciara for her Fashion Rocks Rio performance; she later Twittered, "I'm going to be Givenchy's Muze! So excited!" Do you agree?
Yes, she is a muse. I had never met her before, but it was one of the most amazing moments of my life. We really clicked; I can respect her as an artist and a woman and she respects me as an artist and as a man. I look forward to working with her again soon.
Spring 2010 Campaign Scuttlebutt: Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Celine
>> Spring 2010 may be a "safe" campaign season in the making, but not all designers are afraid to change things up. Word is up-and-coming photographer Josh Olins has breached the usually ad-shooting group of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, David Sims, Steven Meisel, and Steven Klein, nabbing the Spring 2010 Giorgio Armani campaign as his own. And it's rumored Juergen Teller won't just be exclusive to Marc Jacobs image-making this season: apparently he's helping Phoebe Philo curate the new Celine image by photographing newcomer Valerija Kelava and Carmen Kass for her first ads for the brand.
As for Stefano Pilati, it sounds like he's sticking to his winning supermodel-Inez and Vinoodh formula, going on six seasons strong. Natalia Vodianova, WWD reports, is said to be next up.
>> Diane von Furstenberg Gets Robbed, Photographs Upcoming Campaign Herself —Just before she jetted off to Madrid and subsequently got robbed "in the street" — "My wallet, cash and all my credit cards!!" — Diane von Furstenberg kicked off Teen Vogue's Fashion University over the weekend, where she reminded the audience that her eyewear collection is out in January. Tom Ford and Karl Lagerfeld have done it, and now DVF: she photographed the entire sunglasses campaign herself. The model is none other than her son Alex's fiancee Ali Kay, who has recently been at the center of a tabloid scandal. [@InsideDVF, Fashionista]
Expect a Spring 2010 Season Full of "Safe" Ad Campaigns
>> Fashion houses tended toward casting celebrities or established, "pretty" faces for their Fall 2009 campaigns, and it sounds like despite the fact that the Spring 2010 runways were flooded with new faces — because so many established models were sitting it out — Spring 2010 campaign season will bring more of the same. In an interview published today, Nick Knight tells the Independent UK:
"My aim has always been to push at the boundaries of what is and isn't beautiful. Instead of our perception of beauty opening up, it's becoming more narrow all the time. To make money, the industry is increasingly catering to the lowest common denominator and, as far as the people who run the big companies are concerned, anything even slightly out of the ordinary frightens people. But anyone with a brain knows that it is the quirkiness and imperfection in a person that attracts other people. That is completely obvious to human beings; it's just when it gets to a corporate level that it all falls apart."
First Peek: Claudia Schiffer's Spring 2010 Chanel Ad Campaign Shoot
>> Earlier this week, Claudia Schiffer and Karl Lagerfeld were snapped on the Chanel Spring 2010 campaign shoot in and around Buenos Aires; Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi, who are also supposed to be in the campaign, were not so easily spotted. On Tuesday, Lagerfeld and Schiffer were on location just outside Buenos Aires in Monte Grande, where local media reports they stopped for a lunch of "rich barbeque." Then on Wednesday, they started production in Buenos Aires's oldest neighborhood, San Telmo, before they had to stop because of rain.

>> Spring 2010 Ad Campaign Casts for Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, and Chanel: Revealed — After skipping out on a traditional ad campaign last season, it sounds like Christian Dior is bringing it back for Spring 2010 — John Galliano revealed Monday that Karlie Kloss is his girl of choice for the brand. Karl Lagerfeld, meanwhile, is continuing the trio theme from the Spring 2010 Chanel show finale for his campaign cast — menage a trois participants Freja Beha Erichsen and Baptiste Giabiconi are both staying on, with Claudia Schiffer replacing Lara Stone; Lagerfeld plans to shoot the threesome on location in Buenos Aires, marking his first time in Argentina. And word is Nick Knight and Raquel Zimmermann, who worked together to produce the background video for Alexander McQueen's presentation, also collaborated on the designer's forthcoming campaign. >> Balenciaga Spring 2010 Ad Cast Said to Be All Models, But No Miranda Kerr —The Spring 2010 shows are over; let the campaign guessing games begin. First up on the rumor mill: Balenciaga. Spring 2009 saw a bevy of models cast, Fall 2009 focused on Jennifer Connelly, and for Spring 2010, it sounds like we're back to all models — Kasia Struss and "three unknowns" are said to be involved. Guess that means Miranda Kerr, who Nicholas Ghesquiere personally requested for the show, won't be having an Adriana Lima-Givenchy moment. [Fashionista, The Imagist, Style File]
