RJ Cutler Working on Another Fashion Film, Victoria Beckham's New Hair

R.J. Cutler, the documentarian who directed The September Issue, is working on a fashion film based on Fabulous Nobodies, the chronicle of an '80s Manhattan nightclub hostess written by former Vogue Australia Editor-in-Chief Lee Tulloch. The screenplay is ready, and Cutler's goal is to start filming by this Fall - now all he needs is a "stylish twentysomething actress for the lead role" and he'll be set. [The Cut]
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham debuted a new haircut this week, chopping off her long locks in favor of a just-below-the-shoulder-length cut. Beckham tweeted a picture of her freshly shorn hair on the floor of her salon this weekend with the message "Chopped it off!" and paparazzi captured her summery new 'do shortly thereafter. Filming has begun on the new Sex and the City prequel show The Carrie Diaries, and AnnaSophia Robb - the actress playing young Carrie Bradshaw - has been spotted toting around a paint-splattered handbag emblazoned with her character's name. Fashion Darling Olivier Theyskens Commits Fashion Don't

>> It has already been well-reported that Sarah Jessica Parker wore the same Nina Ricci dress to the New York Sex and the City premiere last week as Vogue contributing editor and socialite Lauren Santo Domingo wore to the Costume Insitute Gala on May 5.

More interesting, however, is the story behing the mix-up — as Cathy Horyn reports, both Nina Ricci designer Olivier Theyskens and Mario Grauso, the president of the fashion division at Puig, which owns Nina Ricci, assured SJP that the gown had not been worn in anything but magazine shoots. When she came to find out that wasn't the case, she felt deceived:

In the big picture, this is not important, but there is a relationship between the entertainment industry and fashion . . . my affection for the dress hasn’t changed, but what they did was so short-sighted. It’s just unethical and disappointing that they would allow the dress to be worn again.

Parker says she mentioned to Olivier during the fitting that she was surprised the dress hadn't already been worn:

He didn’t say, ‘Well, actually I just escorted Lauren down the red carpet at the Met.’ I just wish it had been handled differently and they had been straight about it.

When Cathy asked Grauso for a response, he of course said, "I’m upset that she’s upset.” But then he went on to fumble for excuses — he clearly knew that Lauren had worn the dress to an event before, because he said he had no reason to mention Santo Domingo:

'Is Lauren a celebrity? It depends on how you look at it.' He said he and Theyskens mainly thought of her as a friend. He then asked—somewhat incredulously, I thought—“Does everybody look at Style.com?'

A bad move on Nina Ricci's part, especially when they were just becoming red carpet gold. I wonder what Anna Wintour, who so strongly favors Olivier, thinks about it?

Alber Elbaz Shows Lanvin Pre-Fall 2010, Likens Himself to Carrie from Sex and the City

Elle's Anne Slowey Tweeted, "Poor Alber! He had to cry to get his pre-fall collection out of US customs!!!" But editors weren't the only interested parties in attendance at Milk Studios: An Education's Carey Mulligan showed up in jeans and rocker tee, according to Elle's Joe Zee, where she told Elbaz how much she loved her dress - cue the speculation that she might be wearing Lanvin to the Golden Globes.

Elbaz, for his part, was full of his usual witticisms. Of designing the Pre-Fall collection, he said: “Sometimes I feel like Carrie from Sex and the City. I sit in front of my computer and ask myself, ‘Does the daytime have to be boring and grey?’” And he stayed home over the holidays to sketch: "It was pajamas, CNN, and Style.com. It was great."

Vivienne Westwood After Sex and the City Screenplay

>> Dame Vivienne never ceases to surprise. First, the choice of Pam Anderson as her Spring 2009 campaign face - shot by Juergen Teller at a trailer, no less - and now she's got her eyes on a film. Not that biopic that has been rumored for years, but rather the Sex and the City sequel - and she doesn't want to just design another dress this time; she wants to write the whole screenplay.

Apparently she's quite set on the idea. In fact, she's been in contact with the production staff, trying to pitch her storyline, according to a spokesman: "She's been obsessed with the film ever since she saw it. One of her designs was used as the wedding dress. She has even put in calls to Sarah Jessica Parker about it."

So far, no dice - it's been a case of "don't call us, we'll call you," says the spokesman. "We haven't had any news about it yet, so we don't know what's happening." Maybe Viv should stick to her day job for now?
