Anja Rubik Debuts 25 Magazine's "Erotic" Issue

The newest issue of 25 magazine, which Anja Rubik helms with her husband Sasha Knezevic, features 300 pages of fashion photos tinged with an "erotic twist."

The couple launched the issue at a party Wednesday night in Cannes. Rubik described the issue as "more of a book than a magazine" and said that its ad-free pages are dedicated to women photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Ellen von Unwerth, and Corrine Day.

"It's mainly a fashion magazine, but with an erotic twist," Rubik explained, adding that she took inspiration from '70s issues of Viva, Playboy, and Penthouse. "I think it's balanced quite well. There's a lot of fashion. The stylists had a lot of liberty to play around with clothes, and there was no list of credits they had to follow or anything like that."

In fact, whoever styled the cover photo - which Knezevic tweeted yesterday - opted not to use clothes at all. The same goes for a 15-second teaser video clip for the issue called Kiss, seen below.

Rubik and Knezevic started working on 25 in 2009, when one of Knezevic's friends acquired it and asked him for help. Knezevic is now the magazine's editor-in-chief and creative director, and Rubik serves as fashion and art director. Take a look at some of their work below.

Models and Their Men Get In Front of the Camera for Vogue's February 2011 Issue

>> In anticipation of Valentine's Day, Vogue had Patrick Demarchelier capture six models and their men for the February 2011 issue.

Among those featured: the newly affianced models Anja Rubik and Sasha Knezevic, who went to Central Park on their first official date. According to Rubik: "We actually came wearing identical Rag & Bone shirts and Helmut Lang jeans." There's Coco Rocha and her husband, James Conran, who are celebrating their first Valentine's Day married by going to see Prince - his favorite musician - in concert; and Angela Lindvall and Mark Wystrach, an actor and co-founder of People's Shoe (a line of eco-friendly footwear). They had their first date two years ago, Lindvall says - "We took his Volkswagen, went surfing, ate shrimp burritos" - and now reside together on seven acres in Los Angeles's Topanga Canyon, where they've planted an organic garden and 60 fruit trees.

Alessandra Ambrosio and her fiance, Jamie Mazur, who owns a denim company, met at a mutual friend's wedding in Rio de Janeiro. But they didn't start dating until two years later, when they ran into each other at Coachella. Ambrosio says of Mazur: "I always have new jeans, and because he has to follow trends, I get the best gifts - like Louboutins and vintage sunglasses. One Valentine's Day, he learned all my favorite Pearl Jam songs and serenaded me."

And rounding out the bunch, there's Aminata Niaria, who met Laurence Dennis (he works at British Embassy in Paris) at a Halloween party he hosted five years ago. He was a mummy, she was Catwoman. And models Bonnie Chen and Rock Ji, who met backstage two years ago at Beijing fashion show. Soon after, he surprised her by showing up at the University of Pennsylvania campus, where she was majoring in psychology.

>> Anja Rubik and her longtime boyfriend, model Sasha Knezevic, are currently in Sydney where Rubik is shooting a Vogue Australia cover, but just before Christmas, they got engaged. She told Frockwriter:

"We were spending Christmas in Vienna this year because Sasha grew up in Vienna, and his family is there, and my family was coming over. And just two days before he came over, we went to Dance of the Vampires, the one that Roman Polanski directed. It’s an opera. I wanted to see it for such a long time, and Sasha organized the tickets, so it was really nice for Christmas. And then we went out, and we walked around, it was really foggy the whole night, and then he finally proposed, which was funny . . . It was pretty incredible. In the middle of the street. In the middle of the night. And then we went and had dinner in this restaurant that was on the rooftop of a building. And it was really, really nice. Apparently he was carrying the ring around for a while. And that day, we fought all the day long. We were preparing the whole house for Christmas, and there were all these things to be done, and I had to cook, and I had to do this and that and the Christmas decorations . . . I couldn’t find the ones I liked. So it was totally dramatic the whole day. I thought, ‘I’m going to kill him.’ I was like, ‘I think this was my last Christmas ever’ [with him]. And he said, ‘I picked this day on purpose, because although we have our fights, we’ve been together and ra ra ra ...’ And he’s right."

She added that they are "kind of hoping to do [the wedding] in May or June," and the ring is "a beautiful Cartier ring, I think it’s gold. Solitaire."

Anja Rubik, Sasha Knezevic Fete 25 Magazine Launch in Paris

>> Earlier this week, Anja Rubik and Sasha Knezevic celebrated their new new-look take on Austrian magazine 25 - the official launch issue features Constance Jablonski, Karlie Kloss, and Abbey Lee Kershaw on three separate covers, all styled by Barbara Martelo and photographed by Marcin Tyszka.

Sal Morale (who appears in the issue with girlfriend Maryna Linchuk) DJed the fete in an old Paris apartment, where fellow featured subjects like Heidi Mount, Karlie Kloss, Alana Zimmer, and Kasia Struss joined him. The issue boasts an abundance of couture - “It is rare to get so many couture clothes in a magazine," Rubik told WWD - and comes in a limited-edition English version (2,000 copies) and a larger print run in German (50,000 copies). “It’s an Austrian magazine so it was important to keep a link between the first issue and Austria,” said Rubik, explaining fashion editorials inspired by artists Egon Schiele (photographed by Victor Demarchelier) and Gustav Klimt (featuring Eniko Mihalik).

Knezevic and Rubik are already hard at work on their next issue of the quarterly magazine; noted the latter: “One of our contributors will be Julia Restoin-Roitfeld."

Anja Rubik, Boyfriend Sasha Knezevic Team Up To Edit, Direct 25 Magazine

>> As the month comes to a close, couture shows won't be the only thing looming for Anja Rubik: she and boyfriend, fellow model Sasha Knezevic, will be closing their first full issue - 224 pages worth - of 25 magazine.

Together, Sasha and Anja began work on the already-established Viennese magazine in November of last year, infusing the December 2009 issue (cover below left) with a taste of what's to come: a complete overhaul. It all came about, according to Sasha, "because a friend of mine bought 25 and asked me to help him out. I convinced Anja to do the fashion part and before we realized, we had our own magazine."

With Sasha as the magazine's new joint editor-in-chief and creative director (Anja's acting as fashion/art director), they're bringing in completely new editorial teams - one in New York, one in Vienna - and switching the former monthly magazine into a quarterly fashion and lifestyle book. The full effect of their labors will be on display when the Spring 2010 issue comes out in February.

Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson Help AmfAR Launch the Fashion Week Storm

>> Last night, editors and models alike gathered at Cipriani to simultaneously launch Fashion Week - officially - and benefit one of fashion's favorite causes: AIDS research foundation amfAR. Anna Wintour presented and Donna Karan received an award for her contribution to amfAR's mission; Lara Stone, Caroline Winberg, Jessica Stam, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Lily Donaldson, and Anja Rubik (with boyfriend Sasha Knezevic) all got gussied up and came along for the ride. Afterward, there was a mass migration to Rose Bar, where they were joined by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia for a little enjoyment of the calm before the storm.
