>> Victoria Beckham recently let her Giorgio Armani contract expire so that she could focus more on her beauty and fashion lines; she's said to be showing her Victoria Beckham Collection — which Roland Mouret has assisted her with in the past — at New York Fashion Week again for Spring 2010, but this weekend, she's releasing a short film featuring her Fall 2009 collection (with Mouret's sharply tailored handiwork visible) online.
This is her second foray into the fashion promo film arena — her first effort, for Spring 2009, came out at the end of last year. The new short, "Swings," features eight models, perched on rope swings, moving in unison — plus a cameo by Beckham — and was filmed in a single take in London last month. Matt Jerrett directed and Beckham's (and Mouret's) backer, 19 Entertainment, produced. The film debuts Sunday on BergdorfGoodman.com, to promote Beckham's appearance at the New York store during Fashion's Night Out Sept. 10, and DazedDigital, which has the UK exclusive, is posting the full film Sunday at 3 pm UK time.

>> Just days after her latest Emporio Armani underwear ad came out, Victoria Beckham has decided not to renew her one-year contract — which was announced at the end of last October — in order to focus on her own fashion and beauty lines. In fact, in early September, she will be back at New York Fashion Week to show her Victoria Beckham Collection, which Roland Mouret has helped her with in the past.
So who's going to fill the spot she just left for Armani underwear? Elle creative director Joe Zee reports: "LA is buzzing that Megan Fox is signed to replace her." Fox would make sense; she did just attend the Armani Prive couture show at the beginning of July.

>> One of Valentino Garavani's favorite models, Natalia Vodianova, missed the big premiere of his documentary; she was in London for the launch of the 2009 Fashion Fringe search for emerging British design talent — the UK's version of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award — instead. In celebration of this year's honorary chairperson, Donatella Versace, who flew in from Milan for the event, guests like Claudia Schiffer, Roland Mouret, Jonathan Saunders, and Jacquetta Wheeler were served "Donatella Delight" cocktails. Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet is also on the judging panel this year, as is Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, who is overseeing the introduction of Fashion Fringe's first accessories prize. The four as yet unnamed finalists will show capsule collections during Spring 2010 London Fashion Week, and the winner — who in the past has been Basso & Brooke and Erdem — receive upwards of £100,000 for a follow-up show.

>> For the first time since launching his RM line, Roland Mouret showed during Paris Fashion Week; until now, he's debuted collections during couture season. It was perfect time to make the move, considering that his trademark tailored origami dresses are right on par with the sober chic mood of many other designers for Fall 2009 — "quietly seductive," as Cathy Horyn described them. "Almost the work of a local dressmaker. That’s not a criticism." Another first for the designer: knitwear, embossed like crocodile, above a skirt or over leggings. The venue was warm, causing guests to fan themselves with programs and invites, but these are just the type of dresses that buyers are looking for come Fall, so a little discomfort was surely worth it.

>> INSIDER WIRE —The good people at Halston still have no replacement for the recently ousted Marco Zanini, but the Spring 2009 collection he designed before leaving will be shown next Tuesday during New York Fashion Week. The top brass met with several marquee designers, including Roland Mouret, about filling the job, but nothing seemed to pan out — so they're moving ahead with an in-place design team for the foreseeable future instead. >> Amongst significantly less hubbub — no Net-a-Porter selling his clothes right off the runway this time — Roland Mouret debuted his second collection yesterday under his new RM by Roland Mouret moniker. The new set of dresses are definitely cut from the Mouret cloth — sheaths tailored with precision, oragami shapes — but for a man who's been using the same silhouettes since 2005, it's time to grow the aesthetic, not stand still in time.
