Earlier this year, Restoin-Roitfeld hinted at wanting to start a family, saying of Konjic: "I don't think he wants to get married again - he's done it and it didn't work out for him. I'm really close to my family, and I really want one of my own. But the wedding, it's not necessary for me." But a few years back, she wasn't modeling, period - "not at all hoping for anything or thinking about it." Her chosen career is art direction, and she works with a lot of young designers on small budgets: "I feel that's the whole thing about New York; it's all about supporting each other. Designer, photographer . . . you don't need to choose anything, which is what I like, just being creative." But the modeling has paid off in more ways than one - when she's on set, she observes the set design and lighting: "I need to know this for my clients. Modelling is like a constant internship because I keep learning."

Speaking of sets, that's where her mother, Carine Roitfeld, first met Julia's current boyfriend, 36-year-old model Robert Konjic: "Maybe 15 years ago for his first job, a Gucci campaign. When she found out we were dating she found it funny. I mean, 15 years ago I was 15, so she would never have expected him to date her daughter." She's been with Konjic two years, but, Restoin-Roitfeld says: "I don't think he wants to get married again - he's done it and it didn't work out for him. I'm really close to my family, and I really want one of my own. But the wedding, it's not necessary for me." (Her parents, who have been together 30 years, have never married.) If it were to happen, she says, "I'd want the dress to be by John Galliano. He makes the most beautiful dresses with a fishtail. I wouldn't mind that in satin with long sleeves - it makes the best silhouette. I have him in mind." (This interview seems to have been conducted pre-Galliano scandal.)

Riccardo Tisci flew in just for the night, and Peter Dundas custom designed Restoin-Roitfeld's dress. "He was the first one I asked, and he said yes right away," she told Style.com. "I said, 'I want red and I want lace, and I want it very short - the rest, do whatever you want.'" The party may be over, but the celebrations haven't stopped - Roitfeld added: "My boyfriend [Robert Konjic] is taking me away on Monday; I don't even know where." Spills and Thrills at the 2009 British Fashion Awards

>> Last night's British Fashion Awards provided a forum for all kinds of announcements - Christopher Bailey, who accepted both BFC Designer Brand of the Year for Burberry and BFC Designer of the Year, confirmed that Burberry will show in London again for Fall 2010; and Victoria Beckham said she's planning to take an active role in the BFC that in which she would mentor young designers or serve as an ambassador.

Christopher Kane was awarded BFC British Collection of the Year, Kate Moss won the publicly-voted London 25 Award, Peter Pilotto nabbed the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-wear, and Georgia May Jagger took the BFC Model of the Year award - "Thank you so much to the BFC for picking me. I'd just like to say [fellow nominees] Daisy [Lowe] and Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] are amazing girls and amazing models. Thanks to my mum for being the biggest inspiration."

But the model who really stole the night was Karen Elson, who, when onstage to present Grace Coddington with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, walked straight into the orchestra pit and fell four feet out of sight. She emerged minutes later, ”I am the clumsiest person on this earth. I cannot believe I just did that. That is the worst fall I have ever had. I might have broken a rib, but I’m fine.” After presenting, she took to the emergency room to see about her injuries - including a sprained thumb.

>> Couture and Roitfelds galore populated last night's amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Gala, held as part of the Cannes festivities at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld and their significant others (Robert Konjic and Giovanna Battaglia, respectively) were hosted by Peter Dundas at the Emilio Pucci table, while Carine Roitfeld - and Naomi Campbell, Dasha Zhukova, Kristen McMenamy, and Courtney Love - came decked out in Givenchy. Chanel, too, dressed a host of ladies for the event - including Charlotte Casiraghi, Kirsten Dunst, and Karolina Kurkova - which set a new record, raising more than $10 million for AIDS research (the cost per plate was reportedly $10,000, after all).

>> Julia Restoin-Roitfeld has transported her residence from New York to London for the summer - "My boyfriend [Robert Konjic] is in London, so I'm spending the summer here, I've been here for a couple of months now," she explained to Grazia - but the move hasn't slowed her down.

Style.com reports that Julia is the face of Lancome's forthcoming Spring collection, Ultra Lavande, and was shot by Mario Testino for the campaign. And she's also been acting as creative consultant for Mark Fast's lower-priced line, Faster; yesterday, she was on set for the line's Fall 2010 lookbook shoot.
