>>Fashion's obsession with stripes and florals continues with Richard Chai's diffusion line, Richard Chai Love. The designer sent down an equal amount of striped and floral pieces for Fall 2012. On the floral front, it was mainly in the shade of red, with black providing a strong background. More daring floral pieces include blazers and wide-leg pants, while more subtle florals are found on sheer blouses and frocks. As for the stripes, they were less classic and more edgy, with gray, maroon, and blue combinations on dresses, pants, turtlenecks, and blazers. Traditionally stripes and florals can be super-femme, but this season's offering leans more toward the masculine side with boxy cuts overwhelming flouncy bottoms.

Richard Chai Loves Layered Coats and Pleated Maxi Skirts for Fall 2011

>> The crowd was in a bit of a daze as the Richard Chai Love show got under way this morning at Lincoln Center, starting with strong suiting and flowing into looser maxi skirted looks finished off with socks peeping out of low, chunky-heeled ankle boots. The subdued feeling in the room was echoed by the collection's muted palette of greys, taupes, and moss greens; not until the model Charlotte Free - who, at 5'7", comes in a little shorter than your average catwalker - made her runway debut with her shock of pink hair did things really perk up. That's not to say that the pieces were ho-hum - a violet floral print-hemmed slip dress and paillette-ridden sheer tops ensured that they weren't. And Suvi Koponen bopped down the runway, closing in a near-perfect look of cozy sleeveless coat and long, flowing pleated maxi skirt.

Dresses from Luella Bartley, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler and More Go International Designers to Be Re-Released by Target in March

>> In celebration of its fifth year collaborating with designers, Target will re-release 34 dresses from 17 past Go International participants - to hit most Target stores and online at Target.com on March 13, 2011.

The Go International Designer Collective line, as its being called, will feature signature dresses from the past Target lines of Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Zac Posen, and Tucker. Only Patrick Robinson of Gap declined the opportunity to work with Target again, saying he had other commitments. Images of the collection, which will be in stores through April 10, 2011, are expected to be available in February.

Richard Chai Pared It Down on His Love Runway, But Still Has Prints in the Showroom for Spring 2011

>> Richard Chai is a master at layering, and making clothing that appears layered: for Spring 2011, he mashed his primarily neutral collection up with bandeau bras, sheer "body stocking" slouchy leggings, knit "cummerbunds" at the waist, and even did dresses over pants - which Joe Zee Tweeted he was into.

Although Chai's signature prints and embroideries were nowhere to be seen, he didn't drop them altogether. They were just hiding out in the showroom: "All the prints, the embellishment, the embroidery, all of those things are still in the collection. But what I'm showing on the runway is not that." He added: "It’s just a cleaned-up, stripped-down aesthetic."

Chai loves to pair flats with his Love collection - last season it was Timberland boots, and this season, every model was in metallic or black brogues made in collaboration with New York-based label Heutchy. And there was the requisite Phillip Lim sighting - the designer was, as usual, front row: "I'm only making it out to Richard's shows in terms of catching other shows. I always just do Richard’s. He is my dear friend, so I move mountains to try and get here!"

Phoebe Philo Reportedly Among the Masses Gathered for Target's Light Show Spectacular

>> Last night saw crowds on New York's West Side craning their necks in awe while Target's twenty-minute-long Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular took place. The mass retailer rented out 155 rooms - the entire south side of the Standard Hotel - and took advantage of the building's floor-to-ceiling glass, illuminating the windows to reveal 66 dancers performing a choreographed dance. The light show and dance sequences portrayed everything from a growing green vine, to lightning and rain, to a tie-dyed rainbow of colors before finally ending to applause in a red Target bullseye.

Among the audience were Prabal Gurung, Richard Chai, Georgina Chapman, who is due with her first child any day now (and still plans to be at Fashion Week), and reportedly Phoebe Philo. Target is clearly working on upping its image - and last night's display seemed a success, based on the enthusiastic audience reaction. It's also partnering with Gilt Groupe for the first time, allowing its collaboration with Mulberry (see images here), which doesn't hit Target stores until Oct. 12, to be sold on Gilt tomorrow, Aug. 20, in limited quantities.

The 2010 CFDA Awards Are Here! Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu Take Home Wins

>> This evening at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, fashion's finest gathered for the 2010 CFDA Awards. Jak & Jil's Tommy Ton snapped photos of the arrivals, J.Crew's Jenna Lyons introduced herself to Isabel Toledo, and the ever-punctual Anna Wintour was later than usual, appearing after the pre-awards cocktails were in full swing.

Wintour put on her signature shades for the ceremony itself, but off they came when International Award winner Christopher Bailey thanked her (along with Tom Ford and Donna Karan) - in fact, she was beaming. Later, she got on stage to present Michael Kors with his Lifetime Achievement Award - he received a standing ovation - and told a story about how she went on a trip to Jamaica with Kors; when Ralph Lauren arrived, Kors got in the ocean and stayed there for hours because he didn't want Lauren to see him in his swimsuit.

Speaking of Lauren, he received the Popular Vote for the second year running - although he wasn't in attendance this evening. Sarah Jessica Parker, dressed in a custom gown by new Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton, presented Lee Alexander McQueen posthumously with the Special Tribute Award, noting that the designer had "the most beautiful hands I've ever seen," before models took the stage in the designer's last works.

Accepting her Fashion Icon Award, Iman thanked her parents for the longest neck on any model at any go-see in the world and joked to husband David Bowie: "Move over. You're not the only icon in the house." And finally, Marc Jacobs scored the Womenwear Award - he thanked bloggers for his win and said to Robert Duffy: "i want to thank [Duffy], without you this dream would never have come true."

Richard Chai Goes Glunge for Fall 2010 Love Collection

>> For the second season in a row, Richard Chai chose to send his secondary line, Richard Chai Love, down the runway rather than his main line. "It just made sense," Chai explained to Style.com. "I want to nurture the [Love] business. The women's collection is already established." Another thing established: the gray-washed boots from Timberland Chai paired with his looks this season had quite a few fans even before they hit the runway - during fittings, the models were all asking to take them home.

Chai's close friend Phillip Lim sat front row chatting with Poppy Delevigne, Harley Viera-Newton, and Derek Blasberg, while on the runway, Meghan Collison made a return with a lighter head of hair; Liu Wen, meanwhile, sported a few chunky strips of reddish blonde on the back of her head. Long knit skirts, turned down waistlines, and cozy scrunched fingerless gloves added a taste of grunge to the collection, promptly counteracted by the glamour of shimmery tops and bits of fur.
