First Look: Fenton's Dana Lorenz Debuts First Resort Collection

For her first-ever resort collection, Fenton jewelry designer Dana Lorenz was inspired by a necklace she created for her recent CFDA Swarovski award nomination. “I wanted to explore the clash of traditional jewelry ideas with something nontraditional, like speaker wire,” said Lorenz, who used crystal, pearls, and the aforementioned speaker wire for the Swarovski project as well as her 25-piece resort lineup. “I see resort as a good time to do something different. It’ll be a good way for me to take risks and give the customer something newer and fresher." New and fresh styles for Fenton include thin cables tied into neat little bows, wrapped around oversize crystals, or made into tassels that drip from necklaces and earrings. Since 2001, sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann have been producing sophisticated, feminine swimwear silhouettes under their Australian-based Zimmermann
label. The sisters' most recent resort lineup-which is full of sexy one-piece suits, bikinis and mini dresses with graphic cutouts-makes us wish we were writing this from a beach in Brazil. Nevertheless, we're pleased to peruse the swimwear collection online here and here
along with the duo's accessory and lingerie offerings while dreaming of well-dressed, sun-filled getaways.

Francisco Costa Pushes the Idea of Resort 2010 with Sheer Dresses for Calvin Klein

>> Francisco Costa was busy playing host Monday night at Calvin Klein's joint party with Visionaire, but today he sent out the label's diaphanous Cruise 2010 collection, without a bikini or caftan in sight. The resort season has been noticeably growing in scope this time around, and though Cathy Horyn was a fan of Costa's semi-sheer fabrics, WWD cautioned:

A long-standing argument against such [formal runway] presentations for resort is that inevitably, some designers will crossover to the too-editorial side . . . Francisco Costa went too far with the clothes in a season endlessly touted as all about dressing for reality - nearly every piece was transparent . . . almost everything needed an underpinning, and anyone wanting to know what Calvin Klein resort will look like in the stores needs a trip to the showroom.

Proenza Schouler May Bring Florence Exhibition to New York, Show in Paris "One Day"

>> Proenza Schouler spent yesterday in Florence debuting their Cruise 2010 collection with the help of three artists: Kalup Linzy, whose video with Liya Kebede and Chloe Sevigny we saw yesterday - he also photographed himself, Liya, and Chloe in Renaissance-style pictures that were on display, one with Liya as Mona Lisa; Haim Steinbach, who creates spatial collages using found objects, was asked to focus on the resort accessories and placed them on a span of white carpet in the Medici villa courtyard along with a bed frame, dog toys, and plastic onions; and performance artist Kembra Pfahler, who with 20 local Italian women donned Proenza Schouler bodysuits, body paint, and sang with her glam rock band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.

“For Pitti W, we knew wanted an old-school, iconic artist like Haim, someone very contemporary like Kalup, and with Kembra we had so much in common,” Lazaro Hernandez told Vogue. “She connected with this idea of surf culture, as she is from Malibu, which is where we found a lot of inspiration for the collection.”

Proenza Schouler Go Urban Scuba for Spring 2010

>> Of all the shows this week, Jack McCollough's and Lazaro Hernandez's Proenza Schouler presentation had the most excitement and energy about it; Joe Zee agreed, calling it "one of the best this week." We didn't know it at the time, but a piece from the collection actually debuted on Dasha Zhukova during the POP dinner last Friday.

Tonight, the lights above flickered back and forth on the bottom floor of Milk Studios, and with three Trainas in the front row - Victoria, Vanessa, and Samantha - we got to see the full urban scuba collection, which seemed to be a continuation of their Tahiti-inspired resort 2010 collection. Neon printed minidresses mirrored the backs of tropical fish, cateye sunglasses had lifeguard-style reflective lenses, neon tops resembled long sleeve Under Armor, and tinsel and feathers fringed dresses. One girl sported beachy green-tinged hair, another purple. And of course the boys, known for their knack with accessories, didn't disappoint with rainbow-linked minibags and strappy toggle wedges.

Afterward, they told Fashion TV's Jeanne Baker they wanted to indulge in color this season, and edited out about half their potential looks from the show to leave people wanting more.
