In The Showroom: Michael Kors Resort 2009 Swimwear

Remember all of that lovely graphic beachwear from the Michael Kors Spring 2009 runway show? Well, it's poised to hit shelves very soon now. Our favorites are a high waisted two piece with a navy and white zig zag print (about $270). It looks fabulous on the hanger (and runway) even though we're a little skeptical of this silhouette in bathing suit form. Also stand-out are a pair of 100% silk harem pants that are meant for coverup but would be just fine with heels and a casual blouse. They come in yellow, red, navy, and white and will retail for about $350. Check out a few of our snapshots from the showroom below.

Liz Claiborne Cruise 2009 Swimwear

This swimwear collection is one of the first by Isaac Mizrahi in his new position as Creative Director at Liz Claiborne and his skill at understanding the most basic consumer needs is perfectly demonstrated. The first set of deliveries in the collection, or Cruise 1, consists of suits you would want to wear when you're not in the beach bum mindset yet, like navy and white suits in polka dots, stripes, and solids. The second set of deliveries, or Cruise 2, is full of bright prints and fits the state of mind you're in after lounging at the beach for a few days (or, hey, weeks). We love Mizrahi's fresh, all-American take on swimwear--especially because it's so flexible.

Marc Jacobs' Slinky Cocktail Frocks

The Yves Saint Laurent-inspired Resort 09 collection from Marc Jacobs was downright sexy and evoked a rich, streamlined look that we find perfect for resort. Jacobs, as we saw this Spring 2009, does magpie well but we also enjoy his more concentrated efforts--even if there is less to look at. The silk pieces in this collection are perfect for resort as some customers will find themselves wanting a breezy dress for their vacation, while others just need a holiday party outfit or a jolt of color in their all-black wardrobe. Put simply, Jacobs covers all of his bases in this mid-season collection without ever being plain.

While the Net-a-Porter Fall sale rages on, Resort clothing is coming in by the dozens. We can't help but think how happy our Los Angeles dwelling sisters must be to have such a plentiful midseason on their hands. With half of the demand and nearly as great a supply, it must be a fun time for those gals to go shopping. For those of us who already can't imagine what our legs look like under our trousers, we think it's time to invest in a kaftan and book a flight. Richard Nicoll Cruise Lands On Shore

This morning Net-a-Porter revealed their first deliveries from Richard Nicoll's cruise collection, and the wash of colors has us dreaming for vacation time. This midseason offering fits in nicely with Nicoll's Spring 09 collection which similarly features jolts of hot pink and silhouettes that are streamlined and loose-fitting. Nicoll is a graduate of Central St Martins and worked with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton before launching his own collection in 2005. Along with the first four pieces from his cruise collection, the designer created an exclusive item for Net-a-Porter--namely, his coveted oversized t-shirt dress in navy (left). Classic, modern, and versatile it's no wonder Net-a-Porter requested he make the hot pink dress in another shade. Now Nicoll customers can get the bright statement dress and the classic basic from the same great silhouette.

Coach Resort 2009 Collection

When we were little we convinced our parents to buy us everything in the color purple with bonus points if it had sparkles--when we were little one of the first luxury handbag lines we knew by sight was Coach. We never thought we'd say this but these thousand dollar handbags are actually pulling at our heartstrings in some strange way. If we were shown these bags back then, we probably would have bowled over with happiness..not that much has changed, these Resort 2009 handbags are making us pretty happy even as adults. Stella McCartney Resort/Spring 2009 Look Book

Imagine our surprise when we received an abbreviated version of this look book in the mail and it was titled "Stella McCartney Spring 2009". This was just a week or two after the Stella McCartney Spring 2009 show had commenced in Paris and we were amazed at the speediness of the look book (never mind that we receive the paper artifacts in the first place--another topic entirely). Upon further inspection we realized that the looks we recognized were not those which we had seen on the runway in Paris but in those which we remember affront a grassy backdrop of some sort....and then it hit us, "Ohhhhh, this is Resort". Well this midseason offering, eighty-odd looks in all, is hardly something to squeeze between two proper seasons and so McCartney has titled this collection "Spring" and her collection that we saw in Paris "Summer". Although this will undoubtedly jumble everyone's tagging a bit, we think the re-titling completely appropriate. To top it all off we can't even claim that the collection is in need of editing--we think this plethora of pieces will suit the Stella McCartney customer just fine.
