Lily Cole Finds Her Rage at Berlin Film Festival

>> Lily Cole took a break from school in Cambridge over the weekend to promote the premiere of one of two movies she has coming out this year - Rage - at the Berlin Film Festival. The low-budget film - a offbeat murder mystery set in the contemporary New York fashion world - stars Jude Law as a cross-dressing model named Minx and Judi Dench as an acerbic fashion writer; Lily appropriately plays a young model named Lettuce Leaf, although her natural red hair which made her name has been replaced with a bleached blonde bob for the role.

In the cover story of the March 2010 issue of WSJ., Miuccia Prada reveals that her husband Patrizio Bertelli, who also happens to be the chief executive of Prada, has been pushing her to pay more attention to marketing through celebrities. “He says that we are snobs and that we don’t understand pop culture,” Prada says of herself and her design team. "He and I have a little rule of three. If he says something more than three times, then I need to think about it. Sometimes I don’t want to listen, but I do.”

Bertelli is not known to be someone to contradict, but Prada doesn't shy away: the two are notorious for their arguments. “We work hard. It’s always an intense relationship, and it’s exhausting having to work with him. But I admire and respect him,” Prada told WSJ. “It’s a war in here every minute, and to be part of this company, you have to be trained.”

Now that's a true shoe "fetishist." I mean the woman had a bulletproof bra, for crying out loud. She musta been a tiny bit loco en la cabeza). What I'm saying here is that I found these great little patent leather Italian-style flats for $20 yesterday. And they're Tinky-Winky purple (What, man, I felt like having some fun.). And yes, so you don't have to ask, they are my pride and joy.

Ninotchka "Nina" Garcia learned how to deal with adversity at a very young age.

The summer after she turned 16, Ninotchka “Nina” Garcia found herself in the crossfire of a mafia shoot-out. She was eating a late dinner with her friends at a trendy restaurant in Barranquilla, Colombia . . . The bullets started and stopped so quickly she didn’t realize what was happening until she was crouched beneath the table.

“It was the Wild West back then,” she says. “Some mafioso upset at having to sit in traffic—you know, like road rage, but with guns. Or quarreling mafia families. No one dared ask.” Her voice is resigned. “You just learned to be low-key and not flashy.”

Anne Slowey, meanwhile, deals with the adversity of those ten pounds that just won't go away.

She has tried steroids, supplements, pills, a sort of detoxifying electroshock therapy she calls “Frankenbutt treatments,” and an on-again, off-again commitment to juice fasts. To motivate herself, Slowey buys her fashion-show ensembles, tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of Lanvin and Prada and Balenciaga, several sizes too small. Once, she decided to read Ulysses and practically locked herself in the house for a week, reading it in the bathtub. “I lost eight pounds,” she recalls wistfully.
