>> Designers Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thorton effortlessly blended femininity with modernity in one fell swoop for Spring 2012. Silhouettes were straightforward and cut simple - no deconstruction in sight, just a hint of girlishness in the form of mini peplums and frilled collars. While there was a strong showing of solid separates in navy, pale blue, lemon, and white (made lively with spikes of neon at ruffled waists and cuffs), the real stars of the show were the prints. A checkerboard pattern in cupcake-hues was refreshing for its understated geometry, and a recurring doily floral refrained from looking precious with the help of a digitized pixel-print.

>> Michelle Obama has been wearing mostly British designers like Preen and Roksanda Illincic, since stepping off Air Force One yesterday on an official visit to the UK. (Although she went with American designer Barbara Tfank to meet Kate Middleton and Prince William earlier today; the Reiss dress Middleton wore for the occasion promptly sold out online.).

This evening, however, for the state dinner with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, Michelle chose an ivory ruched georgette ribbon gown by Tom Ford, the American designer who also happens to make his home half the year in London, where his studios are located.

A sheer maxi skirt is a daring take on the pervasive Fall trend, but Abbey Lee Kershaw took on the challenge with pure finesse. Between shows on Milan Fashion Week's first day, Abbey contrasted her new platinum 'do with a see-through skirt, metallic jacket, and asymmetrical nude top.
