The Tom Ford Influence-Alberta Ferretti Employs Real Women as Models for Pitti Show; Erin Wasson Has a New Design Collaboration

Alberta Ferretti took a page out of Tom Ford's book and had the likes of Camilla Belle, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Poppy Delevigne, Paz de la Huerta, and Marisa Berenson walk in place of models as part of her Florentine show to open Pitti Immagine Uomo last night, for which she created an exclusive 30-piece collection [Style.com, Fashionista]
The Costume Institute received a donation of $10 million from Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch to create a new gallery space; although this gift was the "tipping point" to start construction next year, fundraising for the project started several years ago and has been helped in large part by Anna Wintour and the Costume Institute Gala benefit [NY Times]
Gucci Group parent company PPR just created a new business unit dedicated to developing online retail. CEO François-Henri Pinault called e-commerce a "strategic priority," adding: “My goal [is] to increase our digital presence and accelerate our growth in online sales, which should reach 10 percent of Gucci Group and Puma’s consolidated revenues over the next few years” [WWD]

Mango Presents Fall 2010 in Madrid

Spanish retailer Mango launched its fall 2010 men's and women's collection last night at Madrid's Circulo de Bella Artes with Elettra Wiedemann, Poppy Delevigne, Amanda Hearst, and Coco Summer in attendance. Paisley scarves with fringe, wide-legged wool trousers, chiffon blouses with oversize bows, and smart fedoras dominated the collection heavily influenced by polished 1970s silhouettes.

The Emperor Valentino Reigns at New York Premiere

>> Last night, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti were in New York to fete the opening of Valentino: The Last Emperor - arguably their biggest Manhattan party ever, between the screening and the dinner for 200 of fashion's finest (including Anna Wintour, Anja Rubik, Jason Wu, and Chanel Iman) at the Plaza's Oak Room. The designer's six pugs Molly, Milton, Monty, Margot, Maude, and Maggie, who director Matt Tyrnauer has dubbed "the costars of the film," weren't present - according to Valentino, "they're getting some time away from me in Italy" - but maybe that's a good thing: Karolina Kurkova admitted, “they’re really not nice to everybody” and Gwyneth Paltrow agreed, calling the pugs "kind of mean."

When Giancarlo Giammetti was asked about his comment on film that the designer looked too tan, he was quick to explain, "We'd come from the beach, and we were about to show summer suits, and he just . . . it just seemed like too much. But it was one time, and one time only." And as for those rumors that he was back to helping out at Valentino for Fall 2009, Garavani denied having any hand in it, "No, not at all. Very far from the truth. I don’t think about it. I wish my assistants to do the best. It’s a big job, though, and to know my name goes on the designs, I want them to do the best.”

Meanwhile, the film seems to have already inspired at least one person - Zac Posen. "I wouldn't mind being followed around too for two years. It's all about having the right collaborators."

Chanel Rumored To Be Considering Blogger Brand Ambassadors; Rag & Bone, Too, Said To Be Pairing With Bloggers

>> Blogger mania is not subsiding - Chanel, which named five it-girls (Jen Brill, Poppy Delevigne, Vanessa Traina, Leigh Lezark, and Caroline Sieber)
as beauty ambassadors in June 2009, is said to be mulling launching another, similar program - but with blogger ambassadors. Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely and Sea of Shoes's Jane Aldridge (who Chanel dressed for the Crillon Ball) are both said to have been contacted, but word is that the program is down the line a ways, as the luxury brand - which doesn't yet have an official Twitter - is wary of social media.

And speaking of brands pairing with bloggers - Rag & Bone, which had Abbey Lee Kershaw, Edita Vilkeviciute, Sasha Pivovarova, and Lily Aldridge shoot themselves for the brand's Spring 2011 ad campaign, reportedly has a second round of Spring 2011 ads forthcoming, for which bloggers like Neely and Bunny Bisous's Julia Frakes photographed themselves.

At Twenty8Twelve, a Child Star Is Born

>> At Saturday's Twenty8Twelve show, Sienna Miller wasn't the biggest starlet in the room, despite the fact that she designs the collection with her sister, Savannah. Instead, it was Savannah's two-year-old daughter, Lyra, who took the runway in a striped sweater dress and tiny skinny jeans before the actual models began their parade, sparking applause and cheers from front rowers like Poppy Delevigne and Meredith Melling Burke (whose own daughter, Eloise, is four). Sienna did make an appearance with her sister for their final bow, but not before two security guards took their place at the end of the catwalk, in matching navy blue suits and pocket squares - she later said that the brand is the bestseller on Selfridges's third floor, with 70 percent sell-through. Meanwhile, Nylon reports the show was opened by 19-year-old London native Edie Campbell, a former face of Marc by Marc Jacobs and Burberry who's currently in the London press for dating Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell (his last girlfriend was Kirsten Dunst).

New York Treated to a Karl Lagerfeld Appearance at Chanel's Soho Store Re-Opening Last Night

>> Baptiste Giabiconi was rumored to make his singing debut at the Chanel Soho store party in New York last night - Karl Lagerfeld is reportedly pushing him to be a pop star - but apparently he got cold feet. Instead, guests were treated to the redone store, cordoned off from the public by a LED display wall playing Chanel videos and brimming with editors (Sally Singer, Robbie Myers, Cecilia Dean, Amy Astley); models (Heidi Mount, Jessica Stam, Magdalena Frackowiak, Anja Rubik, Freja Beha Erichsen, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Erin Wasson, Shalom Harlow, Crystal Renn); and Chanel favorites like Poppy Delevigne, Caroline Sieber, Diane Kruger, Liv Tyler, Courtney Love, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Alexa Chung, who was DJing the party, asked last night if she could buy the new Chanel Les Khakis nail polish (which came out today), but she was told she had to wait until this morning to pick it up. And before Lagerfeld arrived, publicists scraped graffiti stickers, posters, and fliers off the scaffolding by the red carpet. They even had box cutters to scrape off tape and remnants. But that wasn't the only prep done in anticipation of Lagerfeld's arrival: The Daily reports from sources working in the building that houses the Soho boutique that Lagerfeld also demanded his own private bathroom to use during the party, and thus, one was built.

Waiters stood by holding trays of Chanel-logoed spray paint cans which could be used to tag a LED wall near the store's entrance, and the gift bag held a silk scarf printed with a polar bear among camellias. Lagerfeld also took the opportunity to show off his new discovery, 19-year-old French singer Izia, who took the stage at the party (thus intimidating Giabiconi).
