>> Just a couple of days after we got a first look at the making of the 2009 Pirelli calendar (NSFW), more footage from the shoot in Botswana has appeared, complete with the girls riding around on elephants, jumping off elephants into water, and writhing around in the mud. There is even a preview shot of Daria Werbowy included.

Accompanying the video are interviews with photographer Peter Beard and Lara Stone - all in Italian - but when the narrator introduces Lara Stone, she mentions that Lara is thinking about retiring. Nothing for sure, but surprising, considering how much of a following she has in Carine Roitfeld and at W.

>> Last month, seven models made the trek to a luxury elephant camp in the Okavango Delta of Botswana to shoot the 2009 Pirelli calendar.

Mariacarla Boscono, Malgosia Bela, Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, Emanuela De Paula, and Isabeli Fontana mucked around in the mud, waded in the marsh, and climbed trees, sporting little but a square of leather here, a string of beads there, while Peter Beard documented the whole thing.

The calendar won't come out until later this year, but until then, a look at the behind-the-scenes shots and retro photographs that will be interspersed between (NSFW).

Anja Rubik Turned Down Terry Richardson's Pirelli Calendar Because She "Knew It Would Be Uncomfortable"

>> The newly-engaged Anja Rubik, while speaking with Frockwriter on Jan. 1, revealed that her appearance in Karl Lagerfeld's 2011 Pirelli calendar wasn't the first opportunity she'd had to take part in a Pirelli calendar. She turned Terry Richardson down the year before because she wasn't comfortable with what he might ask of her: "Doing the Pirelli was also incredible, because it was always my dream to take part in this calendar. It’s like the most famous calendar in the world; it’s such a huge honor. And the best people shot for it, and the best girls were in it . . . I was actually supposed to do the Terry Richardson one, but I was a little bit afraid, because I never undressed, I was never shot actually nude before. Although I love Terry and I worked with him a lot for French Vogue and other editorials, but I was a little bit afraid of his Pirelli."

Rubik said that she turned the opportunity down through her agent because she "didn't feel comfortable" doing "full-on nude," something she'd "never done" before - she'd only previously done topless. "I knew [Richardson] would, like, push the borders," she added, "and you know, I was just afraid of how far they were going to be pushed and if I’m going to feel comfortable."

Furthermore, she elaborated: "I know he would push it a little bit more, in a way that would be very naked, and I know that I wouldn’t go there probably. So that’s why it was stupid to accept the challenge because I thought I wouldn’t be capable. And you think . . . how it’s going to come out, because he has a different kind of take of that, a little bit more on the edge of, you know; I don’t want to say vulgar but on the very, very slight edge of it. There were supposed to be a lot of girls, and he likes to shoot a lot of girls with girls, and I just didn’t think I’d feel comfortable, that’s why."

So, she said no. "I just knew it would be uncomfortable for me and maybe for [Richardson], because I wouldn’t feel right in the moment . . . The worst thing is to go somewhere to a shoot and be there and feel uncomfortable. Because first of all, it’s bad for me; it’s bad for him; it just creates a really bad atmosphere."

But again, she says, she's never had issues with Richardson's comportment - which has been questioned by other models. "To be honest I know him," she told Frockwriter. "I’ve shot with him many times. And I think he’s great. I never felt uncomfortable, I never thought he pushed me into anything. I think if a girl, like, leaves her green light that she’s open to doing different things, he maybe pushes the boundaries. And if he knows how the girl is. Like I don’t get all these allegations. I mean I worked with him over, I don’t know, 15 times and I never felt awkward . . . that I felt I had to do something."

Mario Sorrenti, Not Steven Meisel, Said to Be Shooting 2012 Pirelli Calendar (Updated)

(Each year a different photographer nabs the gig - Terry Richardson, Peter Beard, and Patrick Demarchelier snapped the 2010, 2009, and 2008 editions, respectively.) No word on location for the shoot, but Anna Selezneva is said to be among the cast, and the finished product will likely debut at the end of November or beginning of December. [Model Whispers]

UPDATE: The calendar's casting director, Jennifer Starr, just confirmed that Mario Sorrenti, not Meisel, will be shooting the 2012 calendar. [Stylecaster]

>> We had a few clues as to who made the cut for Terry Richardson's 2010 Pirelli calendar when he shot it last month in Bahia, Brazil, but now Italian Vanity Fair has the details on the full cast, which includes Daisy Lowe, Georgina Stojiljkovic, Eniko Mihalik, Catherine McNeil, Lily Cole, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Miranda Kerr, Ana Beatriz Barros, Gracie Carvalho, Marloes Horst, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Terry produced thousands of images from the shoot with the girls holding sloths, fruit, roosters, and holding hands while running through waves in little else than a bikini bottom. The goal this year was to use "no makeup, no reflectors - only the flash of the camera - no branded clothes or jewelry, no girls altered surgically," said Andrea Imperiali, manager of Pirelli on the set. Fifty images will make the final cut when the calendar is debuted Nov. 19 in London, but until then the gallery below - which is NSFW - and a video of the shoot will have to do.

Catherine McNeil Talks Tattoos, Gives Possible 2010 Pirelli Cast Hints

>> Yesterday we learned that Catherine McNeil was recently down in Brazil shooting the 2010 Pirelli calendar with Terry Richardson along with Ana Beatriz Barros, Gracie Carvalho, and Georgina Stojiljkovic.

Today, photographer JD Ferguson posted an impromptu interview with Catherine, who just got back from Brazil, where she said she "smoked and chilled" with a girl named Daisy, "and then it was my turn on set." Catherine calls the shoot, "Amazing. Best job I've ever done," and implies that a girl named Abbey was also there. So does this mean Daisy Lowe and Abbey Lee Kershaw were also in town for the Pirelli shoot?

While you're pondering that, Catherine also talked raw veganism - she just converted six weeks ago - and tattoos - she was "embarrassed to say" how many she has, but finally admitted she has 14:

I'm getting a new tattoo. I'm putting it right here, and it's all these arrows that point in the same direction up this way and it signifies law of attraction. I'm getting it in white. [Getting tattoos] is about bringing good energy into my life. They're addictive. Like seriously addictive. Plus, all mine are hidden so it's not a problem anyways.

>> For the 2011 Pirelli calendar, which launched in Moscow today, Karl Lagerfeld said that he produced “the visual version of Homer. I did with my camera what he did with his pen, although we understand that he probably didn't use a pen.” Lagerfeld gathered 15 female models, 5 male models, and Julianne Moore in his Paris studio back in April to produce 36 black and white images of deities from ancient Greece and Rome for the calendar. “I wanted to do something different. I looked at all the other calendars,” he explained, adding: “With such a concept and boys and girls like this, it was an easy job.”

Lagerfeld was surrounded by a cadre of the models featured for the Moscow launch, including Natasha Poly sporting a new brunette hair color. But who did he cast as whom? Julianne Moore plays Hera, Brad Kroenig poses as Zeus, Lara Stone gives her best Aphrodite, Jeneil Williams channels Hades, and Baptiste Giabiconi embodies the roles of both Narcissus and Apollo.

First Look - The Karl Lagerfeld-Lensed Pirelli 2011 Calendar

>> Karl Lagerfeld shot the 2011 Pirelli calendar way back in April at his Paris studio, and although it won't be unveiled until Nov. 30 in Moscow, until now, no imagery has leaked. The calendar is inspired by gods of Greek and Roman mythology this year, and the first outtake has popped up, showing Isabeli Fontana, Garrett Neff, and Bianca Balti as "Bacchus with Two Bacchantes." Also included in the 2011 cast are Heidi Mount, Natasha Poly, Magdalena Frackowiak, two to three more male models, plus Elisa Sednaoui, who recently said she will be joining Lagerfeld for the Moscow unveiling.
