>> Giorgio Armani, who says that he has always admired “the captivating culture and the refined sense of aesthetic” of Japan, and was “profoundly moved by the tragic events unleashed by the earthquake last March,” deemed his Fall 2011 Prive collection a homage to the country. Printed floral silk patterns graced skirts, bow belts emulated the obi, stiff headdresses - into some of which Philip Treacy snuck chopsticks - suggested the sculpted hair of a geisha, and the primarily black collection stuck to a pin-thin silhouette.

The Royal Wedding Arrivals Have Started!

>> A little over an hour and we might get a first glimpse at Kate Middleton's wedding gown, but in the meantime, the guest arrivals have started. Among them so far: David Beckham in Ralph Lauren Purple Label (and top hat!) and a pregnant Victoria Beckham in a midnight blue dress of her own design with a Philip Treacy hat - speaking of, Treacy is outfitting 36 guests in total; official engagement portrait photographer Mario Testino - who reportedly had his camera confiscated; and Prince Harry's on/off girlfriend Chelsy Davy in a boatnecked emerald Alberta Ferretti dress. Expect to see lots of hats, fascinators and dresses with sleeves - exposing shoulders and heads in a sacred house of worship like Westminster Abbey, where the wedding ceremony is taking place, is considered improper.

What Victoria Beckham and Other Fashion Industry Guests (Plus Chelsy Davy) Are Wearing to the Royal Wedding

>> Plenty of talk has been made of Kate Middleton's wedding dress, but what about her wedding guests? Victoria Beckham is said to be wearing one of her own designs - from the Fall 2011 Victoria Beckham collection - paired with custom Christian Louboutin shoes and a Philip Treacy hat.

Alexandra Shulman has gone with Christopher Kane for the big day (who Samantha Cameron is also rumored to have chosen), while Anya Hindmarch picked a "classic and chic" Emilia Wickstead look. Harper's Bazaar's Sara Parker Bowles will wear Osman, while her mother-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be dressed by Anna Valentine, the designer who created her wedding dress when she married Prince Charles in 2005. And former Armani muse Lady Helen Taylor is wearing Erdem.

Prince Harry's on-and-off girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, has chosen two custom looks by Alberta Ferretti: For the ceremony, she went with an aqua green, bias reverse satin dress teamed with a matching faille silk jacket and for the reception party, she'll change into a one shoulder, midnight blue, crepe satin gown with cut-out back detailing, as shown in the sketch above.

"It has been very exciting and interesting working close to a girl invited to such a momentous event," Alberta Ferretti told Vogue UK of the dresses. "Chelsy is a contemporary girl, very determined but also charming and very feminine. Until the very last fitting she was undecided between two different daywear options for the ceremony, so there might be a last minute surprise!"

And finally, Alice Temperley is rumored to be dressing both the mother of the bride and her sister, the maid of honor Pippa Middleton. Temperley is still considered a frontrunner for the bridal gown, but her PR team says she is out of the country on a two-week holiday. As the Telegraph UK wonders: "Is this a double bluff? Is she really holed up at Buckingham Palace with a team of seamstresses?"

The 2011 Costume Institute Gala and Exhibit to Focus on Alexander McQueen

>> Next year's Costume Institute Gala - on May 2, 2011 - has its theme: "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty." Anna Wintour, Stella McCartney, and Colin Firth are set to co-chair the event, with Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek as honorary chairs.

The accompanying exhibit will run at the museum May 4-July 31, 2011, and will cover McQueen's work from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection in 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place weeks after his death in February 2010. A hundred pieces from his 19-year career will be on view, drawn from the McQueen London archives, the Givenchy archive in Paris, and private collections, including Isabella Blow's wardrobe, which Daphne Guinness owns in its entirety.

Curator Andrew Bolton, who is spearheading the project, stressed that he doesn't want the exhibit to feel like a retrospective, so the focus is thematic rather than chronological, reflecting McQueen's fascination with the 19th-century Romantic movement. Among the themed galleries planned: “The Savage Mind,” “Romantic Gothic,” “Romantic Nationalism,” “Romantic Exoticism,” and “Romantic Primitivism.” There will also be a “Cabinet of Curiosities” gallery featuring McQueen's collaborations with Philip Treacy and Shaun Leane, and a separate screening room to display videos of McQueen's theatrical runway presentations.

Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett, who helped produce those dramatic shows, are serving as creative consultants to the exhibit, and the Alexander McQueen company is underwriting the whole thing with support from American Express and Conde Nast. “We felt it would be a great opportunity to show Lee’s work and his incredible contribution to the world of fashion and art,” Jonathan Akeroyd, president and CEO of Alexander McQueen, told WWD. “It felt like the right thing to do. Lee loved the museum. It will give us a great opportunity to show Lee’s work and the Alexander McQueen brand to a much broader community. It’s the greatest tribute and important for his legacy, but it’s also an exciting new chapter in the history of the brand.”

Isabella Blow Film to Consult Competing Author's Book Rather Than Blow Widower's Account

>> The Isabella Blow film Philip Treacy keeps hinting at is starting to take shape. Swedish filmmaker Anders Palm, who is producing the film, recently optioned Lauren Goldstein Crowe’s upcoming book, Isabella Blow: A Life in Fashion - out Nov. 9. The book will provide more background to the screenplay already written by Max Newsom and Nicola Brighton, according to Goldstein Crowe, who has also been hired as a consultant on the film. Interesting that the book co-written by Blow's widower, Detmar Blow, which comes out around the same time as Goldstein Crowe's, will not be as heavily consulted. Detmar had previously suggested Rachel Weisz play Blow in the film. [WWD]

And over the weekend at Naomi Campbell's birthday party, Treacy had a further piece of news related to the deceased fashion editor; Andre Leon Talley reports: "He has a producer to do a film on Isabella, and [John] Galliano has already confirmed to play himself. First Look: Steven Klein's Lady Gaga "Alejandro" Music Video

>> Yesterday came news that Lady Gaga, who has worked together with Philip Treacy on several of her headpieces, has applied for an internship with the milliner - although a spokesperson for Treacy said nothing definite had been confirmed yet. And today, a first look at another fashion collaboration: the first still from Gaga's upcoming "Alejandro" video, directed by Steven Klein, has appeared.

Gaga recently spoke to Extra about working with Klein, but she wasn't too forthcoming, calling it “a beautiful video” but adding that, “like all my videos, I really don’t know what it will look like until it’s finished.”

She continued: “[Steven] is a great friend of mine, and I love him so much and have so much respect for him. We’ve been so excited to collaborate . . . and tell a story of my music through his lens.”

Valentino Spring 2010 Couture Goes Youthful, Earns Balenciaga Comparisons

>> A year after Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli dropped their first Valentino couture collection - an ode to the archives - the designers have entirely switched direction. "We think that to keep a future in couture, it's necessary to bring a new customer who wants something cooler," Chiuri said backstage. Piccioli added, "We tried to make new strategies for going forward. To do that we have to experiment with new silhouettes . . . because we want to call the young girls. They can be new customers for couture because they want beauty, they want personalized things."

This injection of youth involved Alice Dellal walking the runway and sheer ribbon blindfolds created by Philip Treacy; the graphically colorful collection is already earning comparisons to Nicolas Ghesquiere's Balenciaga, with some terming it "Valenciaga." But Piccioli says the collection is "about a woman wandering in this beautiful Eden. It's a dream. Couture is a dream."
