Topshop Has Arrived in New York

>> It's officially happened - the first US Topshop is open (view inside), and frenzy was just as expected - funnily enough, the women at the front of the line this morning were from England, and flew in expressly for the store opening. Christopher Kane was inside, even though he doesn't currently have a line for the store, and Marc Jacobs showed up with Lorenzo Martone last night, answering yesterday's question of his whereabouts.

Right at 11 am, when Kate Moss was supposed to make her appearance, employees encouraged the crowd to chant "Kate, Kate," and apparently she came out with Sir Philip Green, stood on a box as confetti fell, and did her catwalk around the box, all in about ten seconds before the doors were opened, she did a little dance (video), and disappeared - she's already been spotted at Pastis since. But she has been doing quite the publicity blitz, revealing her list of loves to Style.com, and doing video interviews with the Telegraph and Teen Vogue.

Sir Philip Green is certainly coasting on the hype - two parties the past two nights, a VIP shopping event marked by Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer appearances, and another party tonight - but will Topshop's cachet remain now that it's more accessible? Jezebel's reporting that they're keeping the store empty and the line long to create hype, so we'll have to see if it works.

Kate Moss Still Sells Out at Topshop, Has the Stella McCartney Campaign

>> Last week, Philip Green credited Topshop's record profits to Kate Moss's "Kate effect" - "we have been good for her and she has been good for us" - and she proved him right. Her holiday Topshop collection, which launched today, is already selling out: The panther dress she wore to Vivienne Westwood sold out on Topshop.com within an hour, and the triangle dress she wore out last month is mostly gone, too.

Now that she's had eight successful lines, maybe Sir Philip will let Kate do a men's range for Topshop like she wants? He hasn't ruled out the possibility, but has neglected to grant her wish so far: "She's asked me to do a men's range. She said: 'Come on.' And I said: 'Let's stick to what we're doing.'"

Regardless of how Topshop goes, Kate's still got her modeling - she was apparently in Puerto Rico last week with three other models, including Angela Lindvall, shooting with Ryan McGinley for Stella McCartney's Spring 2009 campaign, making it her second stint in a row for the brand.

All Aboard the "Kate Express" for August 2008 Vogue

>> Just as suspected, Kate Moss graces Vogue's August "Ageless" issue. The cover may be all kinds of bland — especially considering that Kate is anything but — but within, little tidbits are revealed about her relationship with Sir Philip Green, her upcoming Fall Topshop line, and her clotheshorse tendencies (she's been collecting since she was 15 and has over 1,000 pieces).

Kate loves her handbags.

In her 20s, [Kate] would spend her earnings on Hermès Kelly bags from the Paris store. 'I would go and spend £3,000. That felt quite good.'" . . . She also has "at least 100 Chanel purses."

She's over airports and is saving for a private jet, a la Gisele.

"I'm going to call it the 'Kate Express.'"

She has a pet name for Sir Philip Green.

"When she wants something, she calls me up and goes, 'Uncle Phil, Uncle Phil, please…' " he says, impersonating Kate in a squeaky, high voice.

Just as suspected, Kate's Topshop line is heavily influenced by her own clothes.

Amelia, one of the [Topshop] designers, shows Kate a black silk-and-net dress that is the inspiration for the party dresses. Then she notices Kate's leopard-print trench. "Do you want it?" asks Kate with a grin. "Yes!" the two designers cry in unison. Kate takes the coat off, and it is hung on a sample rail, ready to be reincarnated for the masses. "See" says Kate, "they take the clothes off my back!"

Speaking of, a few details about the Fall Kate Moss for Topshop line . . .

"A slightly Beatles-esque wool sweater with just the right amount of stripes to keep it punky (around $110); there's a charming black chiffon flapper dress that could easily wander into a cocktail party on Park Avenue ($240); . . . a little faux-fur gilet ($100) . . . most of all I want the skinny black sweater with sheer chiffon blouson sleeves ($100)."

Kate Moss May Be Joining Sir Philip Green's New Entertainment Venture

The company is supposed to be officially launched in the next few weeks, and already reports are surfacing that Kate Moss - who is close friends with Green and was spotted celebrating the new venture with Green and Cowell two weeks ago - has signed a multi-million-pound deal to direct the image and style of the brand.

As her "friends" told the Daily Mail of the opportunity: "Philip knows Kate has been looking for a way out of modelling for the past five years. She is bored silly with her own career and has vastly increased his Topshop sales and image. He promised her that she would be a big share holder and partner when the deal was ready to roll."

Kate Moss's Last Full Topshop Collection Hitting Stores in October

>> Kate Moss has been doing collections for Topshop since 2007, and her 14th collection, out on Oct. 25, will be her last full collection for the brand, Sir Philip Green confirmed. The October release will include a few pieces from Moss's first Topshop collection which are still in demand.

Sources close to Moss described her existing Topshop contract as having “reached its natural conclusion." Green noted, "Kate has done 14 collections with us. It has been fantastic for us and fantastic for her, but they take more and more time and she cannot do this full-time any more." Earlier this year, Green had already decided to downsize the number of Kate Moss of Topshop collections from six to two.

Kate Moss's Future Capsule Collections at Topshop Will Focus on "Whatever Takes Her Fancy"

>> Kate Moss's last full Topshop collection hit the floor today, but Philip Green reiterated that the connection isn't over. “I’m not going anywhere and neither is she,” he said. “This collection still works, and our relationship hasn’t ended. But we now need to go away for a while, and think about how to do things differently. This collection takes a lot of hard work - she wants to do other things and so do I - but our relationship is as strong as ever.”

He's said in the past that a series of smaller capsule Kate Moss for Topshop collections, comprising 12 to 15 pieces instead of the current collection's 109 styles, will still come out two to three times per year: "That will be easier for us, we’ll do something fun."

So what does "something fun" entail? A Topshop spokesperson sheds a little light: "It could be some special pieces in cashmere, for example, or some amazing vintage treasures Kate has uncovered. Basically, it will be whatever takes her fancy. We want Kate's collections to be always surprising, like her - not formulaic and tied to seasons, like a machine."
