>>You've seen the pictures from Wednesday evening's event - now here's a video that will make you really wish you were there. Put together by Swarovski - who is underwriting the awards for the 11th year in a row now - the video reads like a who's who of the industry. Among those who make cameos? Well, there's Carolina Herrera, Johan Lindeberg, Narciso Rodriguez, Rachel Roy, Rebecca Minkoff, Peter Som, Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg, Pamela Love, Stefano Tonchi, Virginia Smith, Garance Doré, and Scott Schuman - just to name a few. There's also lots of head-nodding, air-kissing, champagne-drinking, and general good times being had all around.

Melding sculptural tailoring with soft details, Peter Som played with the differences between masculine and feminine aesthetics for his Fall collection. He cited Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, Hollywood icons who mastered menswear, as muses for the clothing. "I wanted to convey a sense of strength and beauty - this collection is about a streamlined and bold silhouette with lots of textural mixes inspired by John Chamberlain and Brancusi." Balloon-sleeved wrap jackets and peplum tops gave pieces a sculptural feel, while the use of organza and fur offered Som fans more glamorous options.

Peter Som Pre-Fall 2012

>> Peter Som culled influence from '70s film The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and Wallis Simpson for Pre-Fall 2012, resulting in an assortment of prim separates steeped in cheeky Surrealist edge. Lean trousers, mod jackets, crewneck sweaters, and pleated frocks - Som staples - were done up in leather, lipstick-brights, houndstooth, and two knockout prints: a large-scale floating jewel pattern and a sunset floral ocelot. "It's a ladylike approach to dressing, but a little undone," Som explained.

>> Tommy Hilfiger continues to up his fashion ante - with the help of Peter Som, and this time, Karl Templer, who was listed as creative consultant/stylist for the show. "Pop Prep," as the Spring 2012 collection was dubbed, incorporated an abstract camouflage print, shirttail hems on boxy dresses, and suite of loose colorblocked caftans; in sum: a cross between an "homage to the 60s" and "a Technicolor interpretation of the prep classics Tommy Hilfiger is known for."

Peter Som Spring 2012

>> "Courtney Love meets Julie Christie; a rich East Village girl who's a bit of a mess," stated hairstylist Eugene Solomon backstage before the Peter Som Spring 2012 show earlier today at Milk Studios. It was an acurate description, not only of the hair - which was side-swooped and puntuated with Kool-aid-hued strips - but also of the collection itself, with it's updated '60s silhouettes, vibrant hues, Charlotte Olympia-designed platforms, and chic-surfer mood. "I really wanted to convey the strength and energy of downtown in the prints, the tweeds, all the things that I love," Som explained. To that end, there were cropped pants in large-scale photo-florals, retro-tinged bathing suits in zebra-head repeats, collarless jackets in graphic houndstooth, and high-shine skirts in canary yellow. The buoyant mood on the runway was matched only by the first-day-of-school vibe in the front row - Tommy Hilfiger, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Amanda Hearst, Bryan Boy, and Joanna Hillman were there, as was Anna Dello Russo who chatted with seatmate Hanneli Mustaparta.

Peter Som's Fall 2011 Collection Is Full of Clothes for His Friends

>> "It was truly about things my friends wanted to wear," Peter Som explained of his Fall 2011 collection's starting point. "Everyday but heightened and with a touch of quirk." Translated to the runway, Som's friends wear their hair in mussed poufs and like their suiting in vivid reds and oranges. They don't mind having an odd tuft of fur on their jacket sleeve or over their coat pockets. And their shoes of choice - produced for Som once again by Charlotte Olympia - involve dual tone ladylike low heels in bright colors, instead of the teetering heels Som and Charlotte Olympia designer Charlotte Dellal usually make together. Another Som collaborator, Tommy Hilfiger (whose signature line Som consults on), and wife Dee Ocleppo made the front row.

Alana Zimmer's long sleeve jersey dress earned many a fan, and Som's closing look - a floor-length blue sequin gown with short sleeves - is sure to find its way onto a red carpet somewhere.

2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Winners Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, and Eddie Borgo Come Home with Newly-Increased Cash Prizes

>> Last night, the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners were announced, but before they could be named during the dinner gala at New York's Skylight Studios, the results were leaked on WWD's Twitter: Billy Reid won outright, and Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo were both named runners-up.

Style.com's Nicole Phelps wrote that the results were a bit of a surprise: "Many in the audience had pegged Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra as the front-runners." But nevermind: the prizes were even bigger this year, with Reid granted $300,000 (up from $200,000), and Borgo and Gurung each taking $100,000 (up from $50,000). "The main prize is the mentoring we provide," CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg noted of the increase, "but a little cash never hurts."

The rest of this year's finalists - Christian Cota, Robert Geller, Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow of Loden Dager, Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewelry, Moss Lipow and Gregory Parkinson - were treated to a keynote speech by Karl Lagerfeld, who talked about how much fun Yves Saint Laurent was "before Pierre Berge" and advised: "Young goes. But good? If you're good, it may all last."

CFDA Hosts Parties Two Nights in a Row - A Design Challenge at Anna Wintour's House and a Book Launch

>> The CFDA has had a busy last couple of nights. The 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, which include Eddie Borgo, Pamela Love, Joseph Altuzarra, and Christian Cota, gathered at Anna Wintour's house on Wednesday night with their model muses for the design challenge cocktail party, which this year required a look for a working woman, inspired by Ann Taylor. And last night, designers like Francisco Costa - with Bianca Jagger on his arm, Subversive Jewelry's Justin Giunta, Peter Som, and Yigal Azrouel braved the torrential rain to toast the CFDA and Assouline's latest tome, American Fashion Designers at Home. CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg didn't make it - she's been temporarily bedridden with a cold - but plans are already in place for the next CFDA and Assouline collaboration: American Fashion: Designers on the Go, due out in Spring 2011, which will encompass travel guide tips, suggestions, and personal photos of favorite vacation places from designers.

Gap-Toothed Ashley Smith Makes First Runway Appearance in Peter Som's Spring 2011 Sea of Color

>> Peter Som loves his color - his approach is, he admits: “I usually say yes to everything. Then I edit down.” This season, he had a vision of what he refers to as Peggy Guggenheim meets Miami, and an affinity for colors that looked sun-bleached, “or like Popsicles.”

The product paid tribute to the ‘60s, with shift dresses playing a starring role in the highly textural collection, which came in an array of structured, loose, and fitted cuts covered in a mix of florals - ranging from soft brocade to brighter silk prints. And Charlotte Dellal, who was front row, collaborated with Som on printed sky-high Charlotte Olympia wedges for the occasion.

Closing out the show, in her first major runway appearance, was Ashley Smith, who between her gap-tooth grin and ample bustline has garnered lots of pre-season buzz. Post-show, Som didn't have much of a breather: he headed straight over to Tommy Hilfiger, where he's a consultant, for fittings.
