The Four POP Covers of Fall 2011, Featuring Marina Abramovic, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Georgia May Jagger

>> For Fall 2011, POP is having a Marina Abramović moment; the magazine tapped the performance artist to collaborate and appear on all three covers of the new issue - one of which also features model Freja Beha. "We'd been wanting to do a cover project with Marina for a while now," editorial director Ashley Heath explained. "The link-up with Freja seemed very right somehow. The dark hair/dark sexuality angle, and the fact they're both uncompromising and very choosy in what they do."

Shot in high-contrast black and white, each of the three Marina covers feature a different vignette - in one, the artist poses with a mini version of herself; in another, the mini-Marina looks solemly over Freja's shoulder. The third cover - a limited-edition hardback - features only Marina's upside-down face, in full mime-style makeup.

Rumor - Aliona Doletskaya In Pursuit of POP Editor Position?

>> Founding Vogue Russia editor Aliona Doletskaya resigned from her position at the end of July - with her final issue of the magazine hitting stands for September 2010 - without delineating any future plans other than notifying Condé Nast International president Jonathan Newhouse that, in his words, she would like to "start a new life, probably to write a book or try her hand in a new field." Not much has been heard from Doletskaya since - save for a recent byline in the New York Times on luxury in Russia - but late last week, Derek Blasberg Tweeted, "In today's completely unsubstantiated rumors: Aliona Doletskaya, former editor-in-chief of Russian Vogue, is vying for the top gig at POP." UPDATE: A POP spokesman says Zhukova is leaving to focus on digital publishing projects in the arts, and the magazine will now fall under POP editorial director Ashley Heath. “My time at POP has been a transformative experience that I am extremely proud of,” Zhukova said. “It has afforded me the chance to collaborate with some of the greatest creative minds in the world and I’m thankful to Ashley Heath and Bauer Media for the opportunity. I’m now excited to move on and build something from the ground up.” The spokesman added that Zhukova’s final issue had twice as many advertisers and nearly three times the ad pages as when founder Katie Grand was editing the magazine. >> The latest artist to collaborate with Pop on a cover under Dasha Zhukova's reign is Takashi Murakami, who art directed Britney Spears as a manga character - complete with with wedding dress and veil (image here), schoolgirl backpack, Hello Kitty cell phone, and ankle socks - for the magazine's multiple Fall 2010 covers. Spears, who was photographed by Todd Cole for the occasion, told Grazia that pre-shoot, "We looked at a lot of characters and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what [Murakami] was looking for."

Muiccia Prada celebrated her fashion house's first tome, "Prada: Creativity, Modernity, Innovation" in her Los Angeles flagship Friday night.

Friends and fans including Carine Roitfeld, Emma Roberts, Chloe Sevigny, Liz Goldwyn, Stavros Niarchos, Dasha Zhukova, and Mario Testino joined Prada on the third level of her Rodeo Drive store where trompe l'oeil wallpaper transformed the room into an old world-style library. While in Los Angeles, Muiccia Prada also attended the POP magazine-hosted gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Proenza Schouler Go Urban Scuba for Spring 2010

>> Of all the shows this week, Jack McCollough's and Lazaro Hernandez's Proenza Schouler presentation had the most excitement and energy about it; Joe Zee agreed, calling it "one of the best this week." We didn't know it at the time, but a piece from the collection actually debuted on Dasha Zhukova during the POP dinner last Friday.

Tonight, the lights above flickered back and forth on the bottom floor of Milk Studios, and with three Trainas in the front row - Victoria, Vanessa, and Samantha - we got to see the full urban scuba collection, which seemed to be a continuation of their Tahiti-inspired resort 2010 collection. Neon printed minidresses mirrored the backs of tropical fish, cateye sunglasses had lifeguard-style reflective lenses, neon tops resembled long sleeve Under Armor, and tinsel and feathers fringed dresses. One girl sported beachy green-tinged hair, another purple. And of course the boys, known for their knack with accessories, didn't disappoint with rainbow-linked minibags and strappy toggle wedges.

Afterward, they told Fashion TV's Jeanne Baker they wanted to indulge in color this season, and edited out about half their potential looks from the show to leave people wanting more.

Double (or Triple) Duty Presentations

Gareth Pugh confirmed that he will be showing a video directed by Ruth Hogben on Sept. 13 to "set the mood for [his] catwalk show that will take place as usual in Paris." After the private showing, he'll screen the short film in public nearby - get your name on the guest list via MAC's Facebook page. [Style File]
Temperley London is taking their interactive Spring 2010 multimedia presentation on the road for the second time, starting in New York Sept. 15 before evolving in format for London Fashion Week and then again in Paris, where it will become an exhibit. The film aspect, plus stills and a behind-the-scenes cut will be readily available online on Temperley's new website.
