PETA's New Target: "Pinocchio Armani"

>> Now that PETA got their most recent target, Donna Karan, to vow not to use fur, they've turned all their attention to Giorgio Armani. The organization took a full-page ad out in today's Variety depicting Armani with an elongated nose, urging Oscar attendees to shun Armani's designs on the red carpet, since the designer apparently broke a promise to avoid using fur.

A year ago, Armani told reporters before showing his Armani Prive collection: "There is no fur in the collection. Many years ago I actually made a declaration that I wouldn’t use fur. I used some fur in some recent collections, and the organization PETA, whom most of you are familiar with, discussed this particular issue, and presented some information to [me] and [I'm] not using fur in [my] collection."

>> The Tents at Bryant Park often attract throngs this time of year, but this morning, they weren't out for celebrity sightings. No, no . . . they were out for blood, or perhaps a lack thereof.

Just in time for Donna Karan's DKNY show this morning, shouts of "D-K-N-Y! How many animals have to die!" and "Stop the insanity! No blood for vanity!" rang out. But the anti-DKNY campaign didn't stop at the Tent doors - during the show's finale parade, two women burst onto the runway flashing "Donna Dump Fur" banners before security could escort them off. Talk about a unique "celebration" for DKNY's twentieth anniversary show . . .

>> PETA has long targeted Anna Wintour for her fur patronage, even going so far as to throw tofu pie in her face in 2005, but Carine Roitfeld may have just put herself on the hit list. In the August 2008 issue of Vogue Paris, Carine styled a shoot starring a fur-draped Raquel Zimmermann brazenly giving faceless PETA-like activists the bird. Only a couple of pictures from the Mario Testino-shot editorial have appeared so far, but these images are sure to stir the pot.
