Exclusive Video - An Inside Look at the 2012 CFDA Nominee Event

>>You've seen the pictures from Wednesday evening's event - now here's a video that will make you really wish you were there. Put together by Swarovski - who is underwriting the awards for the 11th year in a row now - the video reads like a who's who of the industry. Among those who make cameos? Well, there's Carolina Herrera, Johan Lindeberg, Narciso Rodriguez, Rachel Roy, Rebecca Minkoff, Peter Som, Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg, Pamela Love, Stefano Tonchi, Virginia Smith, Garance Doré, and Scott Schuman - just to name a few. There's also lots of head-nodding, air-kissing, champagne-drinking, and general good times being had all around.

>> Fall 2012 had Narciso Rodriguez referencing some pretty varied inspiration: "Collaging, collecting, color, film stills, many artists, the film world," the designer listed after his show. For a less-disciplined type, this kind of vague assortment might run the risk of turning into a directionless jumble. Luckily, Rodriguez is nothing if not a minimalist, and so these pieces were bold, cohesive, and forward-thinking. The designer emphasized volume this season, working sculptural folds, architectural draping, and trapeze shapes into his signature silhouettes. Colorblocking - in a robust palette of green, tangerine, and red - was used to artful effect.

This season also marks the debut of Rodriguez's new accessory and shoe collection. In luxe leather, exotic skins, and enticing silhouettes, they were a gorgeous addition to an already-strong collection.

>> The brushstroke prints peppered throughout Narciso Rodriguez's Pre-Fall 2012 collection were achieved by photographing some of the paintings the designer does on weekends through sheets of glass. "We've been playing with the idea of creating painterly effects on woven fabrics for a few seasons now," Rodriguez noted. "We just keep evolving . . . and computerizing them." Also of note: the three reversible coats, featuring detachable fox fur sleeves.

More Details on Lauren Santo Domingo's Online Trunk Show Venture, Moda Operandi

>> Print editors are starting to invest in online ventures - literally, like Nina Garcia, who recently sunk money into Fashism, and in the case of Lauren Santo Domingo, whose online trunk show venture was first reported in August.

Details of Santo Domingo's site have finally emerged: it's called Moda Operandi, or modaoperandi.com, and will launch during New York Fashion Week in February as members-only (although members can invite friends). The idea, which was conceived a year ago by founder Aslaug Magnusdottir, who used to head up merchandising for Gilt Noir, the private website for top spenders at Gilt Groupe, is to enable members to place orders from design houses in New York, London, Milan and Paris (including Thakoon, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Narciso Rodriguez, Vera Wang, Alexander Wang, and Giambattista Valli) within 48 hours of their runway show.

Shoppers will put down a 50 percent deposit on their orders, which they will receive in roughly four months, versus the six month lag it usually takes for designer goods to hit retail. Clothes that don't fit can be returned.

For starters, Moda Operandi will be offering four women's collections a year - for Spring, Resort, Fall, and Pre-Fall - from about 50 designers, and in the downtime between collections, it will sell jewelry and accessories. There will also be editorial content like backstage interviews and stylist recommendations.

Narciso Rodriguez's Longtime Business Partner Departing

>> Zac Posen's mother and longtime business partner Susan Posen left his company last week, and this week, Narciso Rodriguez is experiencing a similar shakeup: his longtime business partner, Kathy Kalesti, is leaving the company on Friday. Kalesti, who joined the company in 1997, said: “Working with Narciso has been a great experience.” And Rodriguez added: “I’m grateful for all of her efforts on behalf of the company and support her decision to pursue other interests.” Kalesti will be replaced, but in the meantime, Robert Wichser, former principal at Ron Burkle's The Yucaipa Cos. (which owns Posen and Scoop NYC) and president and CEO of Sean John, has been consulting with Rodriguez for several months and will continue in that capacity until a successor is named. [WWD]

>> The second season of The Day Before, Loic Prigent's documentary series which follows six designers - Diane von Furstenberg, Donatella Versace, Alexander Wang, Narciso Rodriguez, Nina Ricci's Peter Copping, and Jeremy Scott - in the 36 hours leading up to their Fall 2010 show, premieres tomorrow night, Sept. 8, on the Sundance Channel at 10 pm EST with von Furstenberg, with one episode airing each night after that through Sept. 13.

Prigent is known for receiving unprecedented access into designers' inner sanctums - he captures von Furstenberg practicing yoga as she fits models, Wang in the midst of a "chiffon crisis," Narciso Rodriguez leaving his studio in a panic two hours before his show with two key looks unfinished, and Copping staging his first ever show for Nina Ricci.
