Miuccia Prada Interprets "Innocence" with Cat and Bird Prints for Miu Miu Spring 2010

>> Kate Moss, who attended Yves Saint Laurent a couple of days ago, was in the house for Miu Miu - as were Baz Luhrmann and Renee Zellweger. Miuccia Prada took one of her favorite themes - "pretty perversity," as Suzy Menkes describes it - and sent out a trail of looks mixing prints of cats, swallows, or reclining nudes. Daisy fasteners were affixed on clutch bags.

“It is fresh - about how innocence can survive in this world,” Prada said of the collection, which juxtaposed sweet skirts and schoolgirl collars with bra-like cut-outs and harnesses; Prada exclusive Lindsay Wixson closed, wearing a crystal "rib-lace" - a harness-like necklace that passed beneath the bra.

Interesting side-note - apparently Miu Miu has departed from a number of US department stores after a disagreement over how it should be displayed, writes the Wall Street Journal: "the company wanted their own store-in-stores, while the stores wanted to mix Miu Miu in with the other bags, according to a person familiar with the company."

>> After seasons and seasons of recognizable campaign faces - Kirsten Dunst, Lindsay Lohan, Vanessa Paradis, and most recently, Katie Holmes - set against vividly colorful backgrounds, Miuccia Prada did a total one eighty, choosing five unknown models - Mimmi Soderstrom, Hannah Holman, Ilda Lindqvist, Victoria Tuaz, and Whitney Coble - who were plucked at a time when only one, Coble, had walked on any major runways; the move is especially remarkable in a time when a number of major brands are sticking with celebrity or supermodel faces. The look for the Fall 2009 campaign - which was still shot in London, early May, by Miuccia's usual standbys, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott - is stark and mostly void of color.

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL -The first photo from Prada's Fall 2009 campaign has leaked, and instead of horses involved as previously reported, the setting is four girls - Prada favorite Ymre Stiekema, Katlin Aas, Julia Hafstrom, and Kendra Spears, who is said to be the main focus - in a boat, surrounded by water; this particular image is supposedly one of the "most interesting," according to someone who claims to have seen the full set by Steven Meisel. >> Miuccia Prada applied a beachy influence to her Prada Cruise 2010 collection, and the same pervaded the Miu Miu resort collection, this time in the form of haltered maillots, bodysuits, and sheer sarong-like dresses. The two-tone tops that were at Prada were also present here in paler colors and paired with sportswear-inspired pieces: tennis skirts and heeled boxer-like boots. In a nod to recessionary times, the jeweled bag and ankle straps are detachable and can be worn as a necklace or bracelets.

>> Miuccia Prada closed out the Fall 2009 runway season with a Miu Miu show about "playing with the bourgeoisie.” Necklines plunged to reveal nude bras, fur sashes draped across the chest and covered ankle straps, bare flesh shimmered, and socks were heavily sequined. The collection seemed more grown up than Miu Miu's recent forays into harlequinism or scuba gear, with its tapestry patterns, but perhaps most striking were the half-coats, with undone buttons or cutout backs.

Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Prada Go With Gaggles of Girls for Spring 2009 Ads

>> For Fall 2008, three of the big campaigns that every model wants to catch - Prada, Balenciaga, and Miu Miu - all went with one big name - Linda Evangelista, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Vanessa Paradis, respectively.

Come Spring 2009, all three labels have decided to switch things up by using a large number of new faces - Prada is using eight models (Anna Jagodzinska, Giedre Dukauskaite, Katrin Thormann, Nimue Smit, Sigrid Agren, Toni Garrn, Viktoriya Sasonkina, Ymre Stiekema); Miu Miu is using eight models as "accessories" to campaign star Katie Holmes (Darya Kurovska, Elena Lomkova, Imogen Morris-Clarke, Katie Fogarty, Myf Shepherd, Sophie Srej, Tilda Lindstam, Yulia Leontieva); and Balenciaga is going with ten models (Amanda Laine, Anabela Belikova, Anna Jagodzinska, Anya Kazakova, Diana Farkhullina, Elsa Sylvan, Hanne-Gaby Odiele, Iris Strubegger, Katie Fogarty, Kinga Rajzak).

Surprisingly, there are only two girls overlapping between the campaigns: Anna Jagodzinska in Balenciaga and Prada and Katie Fogarty in Miu Miu and Balenciaga, and especially in Miu Miu's cast, some girls - Tilda Lindstam, Yulia Leontieva - are very new faces. Although some are skeptical, especially in the case of Miu Miu, that all the models cast will make it into the final shots, it's notable that all three labels, which usually go with one face, have all decided that power comes in numbers this season.
