Sara Ziff's Picture Me Documentary Uncovers Sexual Assault in the Modeling World

>> Over the course of five years, Sara Ziff snuck her ex-boyfriend Ole Schell into fashion shows, shoots, and parties so that he could film "without other people realizing it." Sometimes he got thrown out, but they were able to collection hundreds of hours of footage along the way, which they edited down to produce Ziff's documentary, Picture Me, which exposes the dirty underbelly of modeling.

In it, the stories are hardly pretty. Ziff told the Guardian about a 16-year-old model who complained to her agency when a 45-year-old photographer made a pass at her: "Her agency said she should have slept with him." She captures another model talking about how weight is approached: "In castings, people have slapped my thigh, and I'm not in any sense overweight, I never have been. I've been the same weight for a long time, but they'll slap your butt and be like 'Oooh, fat' in Italian or in French. 'It's too big here.'"

The theme of the season seems to be family - shots of sisters Missy and Frankie Rayder, Angela Lindvall and her two sons, plus one of model Sasha Knezevic hugging Anja Rubik with the tagline "Unwrap your girlfriend," launching "are they or aren't they dating" rumors, have all made their debut. Still to come? Ads with Lily Donaldson and her brother Jesse, Milla Jovovich and her daughter Ever, Erin Wasson, and sisters Nina and Chiara Clemente.

The drag queen look really works for me here, especially on Amanda Moore (middle photo on the top). If the background wasn't the glossy black it is, this just wouldnt have worked. But this, this is perfect.

>> As pre-fall ads are starting to pop up, WWD has provided us with a sneak peek of Louis Vuitton's actual fall fall ads, photographed by Mert and Marcus. The ads feature Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Daria Werbowy in the style of "the power eighties," complete with technicolor eyeshadow and of course lots of LV accessories (oversize ski hoods, pearl necklaces, leopard-print stoles, sunglasses, colorful mink handbags and the like). Representing the male quotient is Pharrell Williams, arms draped across LV's ubiquitous monogrammed trunks. I'm usually not a fan of LV's ads (the ones pictured above included), but the one with Daria sounds promising: she has a shoe placed askew on her head.

Missy Rayder, Raquel Zimmerman, Kristina Kruze, and Du Juan were also cast as part of the campaign.

As a side note, a comment from Marc Jacobs which piqued my interest: "[Louis Vuitton]'s first and foremost a bag and luggage company." So I wonder, why spend all the money doing runway? It's not like the LV runway is quality anyway...

>> Remember the edgy March 2006 Vogue Italia with Amanda Moore on the cover? Her accompanying editorial is finally up -- and it's very biker babe to go with her femmohawk-of-sorts. There's some great shots in there by Steven Meisel, and the whole motorcycle chic mood is very appropriate, what with the motorcycle boots and the rock chic feeling in general coming back into style.

One of Steven Meisel's other editorials for the magazine is up as well -- "Organized Robots" -- the models are in all-white, with nun hats. I didn't like the editorial as much (the nuns kind of creep me out in a sterile hospital way), but there's one great shot with Amanda, Gemma, and Missy Rayder in a bathtub.
