Inside Stella McCartney's Fall 2012 Flash Mob Presentation

>> This season, Stella McCartney decided to forgo her usual show in Paris for an intimate - and unorthodox - dinner presentation at London Fashion Week. Around 100 guests - including Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Yasmin Le Bon, and Rihanna - attended the Saturday evening event, which began with a magic show and finished with a formal jazz band. The real excitement, however, came with the presentation of McCartney's Fall 2012 collection. While guests dined unassumingly at their tables, models burst forth from the crowd - flash mob-style - in an energetic display of table-dancing, chair-passing, and rowdy hip-shaking. "It was nice to see something different, something dramatic. The clothes looked great," guest Bianca Jagger exclaimed.

Carine Roitfeld Plans to Launch a Magazine Next September

>> Carine Roitfeld has been hinting a lot at her next big project, but now she confirms (translated from French): "It will be a magazine." She continues: "I would love to do four times a year. Initially, I wanted it on the Internet, but it's a lot of investment, a lot of time, I do not know if it suits me. I know that now you have to work with the Internet, and the photos are of very good quality on the iPad, but things quickly go out of style on the Internet. We'll start with print. A September issue next Fall, in English."

Roitfeld told Dazed Digital of the magazine last week: "It will be something less frequent than a monthly to make it more iconic, more collectible. I want to make something really beautiful, chic, different. . . . I have to find a new way, so I am dreaming about it and working it out."

She also recently hinted at who she might be working with: "I have a lot to say about fashion, not just about fashion but beauty, art. I'm looking for a new way to talk to readers. We make the dream team - Marie-Amelie Sauve, [Mario] Testino, Stephen Gan."

As for whether she has a name for the magazine: "Yes. I cannot tell you, I'm trying to see if it's not already filed, but I think it suits me, it's pretty rock and roll. I could call it Carine Roitfeld in the manner of Oprah Winfrey, and put myself on the cover every month like she does, but I'm not sure if this is what people want. At the moment, they see me a lot, I'll even do a signing [of her new book, Irreverent] at Colette and it amuses me, but after I want to disappear."

And how she envisions the magazine: "I do not want to compete with Vogue. Besides, I'm not sure they see me coming from a very good eye. It will not be easy for me to run independently. It's a little earthen pot against the iron pot. But I still have friends willing to support me. I would like to succeed in mixing a lot of people very different, as for a dinner."

Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and more joined Testino at the '30s-themed party with a black-and-white dress code, co-hosted by Lady Amanda Harlech, Lucinda Chambers, and Hamish Bowles at the Park Lane Hotel. Moss, who arrived on the arm of her new husband Jamie Hince, was later spotted challenging the makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury to a dance-off.

Gypsies Convinced Kate Moss To Get Married, She Tells September Vogue

>> Kate Moss tells Vogue's September 2011 issue - which she covers - that after a romantic trip to Thailand two years into her relationship with Jamie Hince, “we were just so loved up, and he asked me to marry him every day.” So what made her finally take the plunge, at 37? Apparently, the British TV series Big Fat Gypsy Weddings. “I am so romantic about gypsies,” Kate explains. “They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at sixteen. You can’t believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times ten; they can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius. I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day - let’s do it!”

“I’ve met them all throughout the years,” Mario Testino - who captured Vogue's extensive portfolio of Moss's wedding (she shifted her wedding date from Saturday to Friday to accommodate Testino's schedule) - says of Kate's past paramours, “but [Jamie] is the most real. He has a great sense of humor.”

But, as the wedding date nears, Hince “is terrified,” says Moss. As for herself: “Let’s put it this way. If I didn’t have my friends . . . I don’t know how people do it. I’ve had big birthday parties, and I’ve thrown parties for other people, but this is a completely different thing. It’s the Met Ball! Because you have to look at every piece of cutlery; the details are intense. And then you wake up thinking about the ballet shoes for the girls; is the satin ribbon right? I’ve gone mental. Jamie thinks I’m mad, asking, ‘Are you gonna be all right? After the wedding, I’m hoping you’ll get back to normal!’”

Of her vision of the wedding, Moss says: “I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus. The Great Gatsby. The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-’n’-roll Great Gatsby!”

It follows, then, that John Galliano, who designed Moss's wedding dress, was inspired by Jazz Age photographs of F. Scott's wife Zelda Fitzgerald. Moss says she wanted “a classic Galliano, those chiffon thirties kind. I’ve lived in his dresses for years, and they just make me feel so comfortable. But it’s so much more couture, couture, couture. Oh, my God, the work that’s going into the dress!”

As Vogue tells it: Moss and Galliano "discussed everything on the phone, and then, when John was out of rehab for the first of four marathon fittings, he brought her 'bags full of bits, and pulled tulle and sequins and veils and flowers out. And then we just kind of pinned things together, like the old days, you know?' The skirts are symbolically licked with the beaded plumes of a mythical phoenix, 'delicate and defiant, like Kate.'"

"She dared me to be John Galliano again,” the designer added. “I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab.” The relationship goes both ways, though. Just before Moss, ever the model, sets off to her wedding church she requests “a few words, a story to inspire her - she loves a bit of direction!” Galliano says. “I told her, ‘You have a secret - you are the last of the English roses - and when he lifts your veil he’s going to see your wanton past!’”

Later, the favor is returned: When Kate's father thanks Galliano for “the beautiful dress,” every wedding guest stands in ovation, causing the designer's eyes to well up.

Versace Ushers In a New Era with a Brunette Face

>> Versace is in a state of change, Donatella Versace confirms. For the first time ever, she recently opened the house archives for a music video - Lady Gaga's new "Edge of Glory" video, to be exact - in which Gaga wears a strappy vintage Versace corset top and shorts, both in gold studded black leather. Style.com noted the change in direction earlier this week at Versace's Resort 2012 preview, of which many were reportedly commenting, "I'm not a Versace girl, but I'd wear that."

The house's Fall 2011 campaign is also perpetuating a new Versace era; instead of Mario Testino, who has done Versace campaign honors since 2004, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were the photographers of choice, a Versace first. And rather than featuring a celebrity or a blonde - as is typical for Versace - the campaign focuses on the brunette Saskia de Brauw. “For me, it is expected to have the blonde girl, the sexy girl, and this is what Versace meant recently,” explained Donatella. “But I thought about how in the past, when Gianni used girls like Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant, everyone was always saying, ‘Wow, this is not a Versace girl, she is not blonde.’ Sometimes you need to renew yourself to work better and to make a little bit of a push.”

Of the resulting images, Versace added: “It’s a glamorous woman and it’s a little pop, which I love. Mert and Marcus are very talented and full of ideas. This season is just the beginning. I want to push something different and new.”
