Six of the calendar's 12 models were in attendance, joined by Sorrenti's family, Valentino Garavani, Vera Wang, and more.

>> Mario Sorrenti shot the upcoming Pirelli 2012 with 12 models and actresses - all of which he's worked with before - in Corsica. Among the featured? Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere van Seenus, Malgosia Bela, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.
Of the calendar's look, Sorrenti explained: "You know, originally I thought I was going to do very sexy pictures, and when we got there I realized that I didn't want the pictures to be sexy at all . . . I didn't want them to be posing and arching and like sticking their boobs in my face or anything like that."
Thus, he added: "We tried to keep it very simple, there were times where we did just photographs with the model and myself and there was no one around. I think that was the moment when I was able to capture some of the most beautiful photographs . . . You kind of lose yourself and you go with the flow of the moment and just let things happen."
Of including former girlfriend Moss, Sorrenti said: "Kate, I've known for 20 years. I can't do this without her." And Stone said of participating: "In the end you get that one shot, that magical decisive moment. It's not sexy in-your-face, it's more innocent sexy. Don't know why they hired me!" However, she added of the calendar: "I'd like to do it every year till I'm 75."

Behind the Scenes at the Pirelli 2012 Calendar Shoot with Kate Moss and Lara Stone (NSFW)

>> The 2012 Pirelli calendar isn't set to be released until December 6th, but behind-the-scenes images from the shoot - featuring Kate Moss and Lara Stone - are already trickling in. The nature-themed calendar also features models Isabeli Fontana (left), Milla Jovovich, Margaret Madè, Saskia de Brauw, and Rinko Kikuchi - all posed in rustic settings at the remote Murtoli estate in Corsica.

Mario Sorrenti, Moss's ex-boyfriend - and the first Italian to ever shoot for Pirelli - photographed the calendar. The shoot took place just three weeks before the supermodel's July wedding to Jamie Hince. Hince was, reportedly, present on-set.

Barneys Is Releasing New Carine Roitfeld-Styled Campaign Images Daily

>> The first of Carine Roitfeld's Fall 2011 campaign images - starring herself and her children - were released earlier this week, and now a couple more have appeared, showing Natasha Poly and '60s supermodel and Avedon muse China Machado. Still forthcoming are Mario Sorrenti-lensed images of Victoire de Castellane, Dasha Zhukova, Noami Campbell, Marie Amelie Sauve, and more.

Barneys plans to release a new "Carine's World" campaign image each day online at The Window until Sept. 2, when the images are unveiled in the store's windows. Also promised in the lead-up: the premiere of the campaign video.

Edward Enninful Has Big Plans for W's September Issue

>> W's new fashion and style editor Edward Enninful won't make his full debut for the magazine until September, but his stamp can already be seen on the magazine's July 2011 cover featuring Christina Aguilera, he says: "I was involved with Christina. I worked with our contributing editor Giovanna Battaglia on the look and the photography and also Lynn Hirschberg. And I wanted to show Christina in a new light, show off the icon that she is."

As for his future plans for the magazine: "We'll continue to work with photographers like Craig McDean, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Sorrenti, Inez and Vinoodh, Mert and Marcus, but we also have a few big names in the pipeline and you'll see it in the coming months, particularly in September ... The September issue will be first big issue for myself, along with Alex Gonzalez, the creative director, and sort of Giovanna Battaglia, whom we offered to be fashion editor and hopefully a few other editors. And we're going to feature the industry's biggest names and well-known photographers. I think you'll be pleased. And what I love about this sort of blend of photographers is that each one has their own unique style. So if it's okay I'd like to keep their names under wrap just to surprise our readers. It's really hard to keep anything secret these days. But I try."

Mario Sorrenti, Not Steven Meisel, Said to Be Shooting 2012 Pirelli Calendar (Updated)

>> Karl Lagerfeld, who captured Pirelli's 2011 calendar, is rumored to be succeeded by Steven Meisel for the 2012 edition. (Each year a different photographer nabs the gig - Terry Richardson, Peter Beard, and Patrick Demarchelier snapped the 2010, 2009, and 2008 editions, respectively.) No word on location for the shoot, but Anna Selezneva is said to be among the cast, and the finished product will likely debut at the end of November or beginning of December. [Model Whispers]

UPDATE: The calendar's casting director, Jennifer Starr, just confirmed that Mario Sorrenti, not Meisel, will be shooting the 2012 calendar. [Stylecaster]

Carine Roitfeld Announces Her First Post-Vogue Paris Gig

>> Carine Roitfeld was spotted a couple of days ago in New York, and it will likely be happening more often in the next few months. Barneys New York has asked Roitfeld to act as a guest editor, muse, and stylist for a multifaceted Fall 2011 initiative.

Roitfeld will style and edit Barneys' Fall 2011 catalogue, campaign (to be shot by Mario Sorrenti), and mailers, as well as put her touch on the retailer's Madison Avenue windows, to be unveiled in September. “It’s very exciting,” Roitfeld said. “It’s a new kind of project for me. It’s good to have a new life, because now I can do projects that I never dreamed of before. For me, Barneys has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, and be visible during the next fashion week in New York, is my dream come true. To a French girl, it’s a big, big dream.”

The collaboration came up after a conversation with Barneys CEO Mark Lee after Roitfeld announced she was leaving Vogue Paris. Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman explained that the campaign will reflect “the woman that [Roitfeld] is and her personal style, which we feel is the perfect reflection of our customer. She is the ideal muse as well as editor. She has a unique and extraordinary personal style. She appeals to all ages. She is independent and strong, and yet she is completely feminine. She is a woman of the world, which we like to think our customer is, as well.” It remains unclear whether Roitfeld herself will appear in the ad campaign.

Sorrenti is also expected to shoot a short film in New York and Paris for Barneys, with Roitfeld as the focus. “I am hoping to capture something very personal, a portrait of her in a way,” Sorrenti said. “When Carine and I are together, it’s fun, and she is really cool and really herself, and it’s that intimacy that I want to capture. She has a great sense of humor, and she is very provocative and very free in the way that she doesn’t plan about who she is and what she is going to say. She is very natural, which is great.”

This is Roitfeld's first publicly announced project since leaving Vogue Paris, and it sounds like she plans to stay a free agent for the time being. She says of recent rumors: “Each day it’s changing. One day I am going to Dior with Riccardo Tisci, the next day I am going to Saint Laurent with Hedi Slimane. I don’t think it’s very nice for the designer at Saint Laurent, and it’s just rumors. What I know is that I now have my freedom and I will keep my freedom forever. I am very excited to have this freedom and to have projects like the one at Barneys.”

As for what her future might actually hold, she says: “I am sure that one day I will, even if it’s not my own magazine, do special stories for magazines and maybe something on the Internet. I have projects and opportunities coming on. The only sure thing I know is that I will keep my freedom. I can be a muse for a designer, I can do work for some magazines, and do advertising, and maybe something like Barneys, but still keep my freedom.”
